RL whinge:

I just want to get this off my chest.

I think I’m holding on out of habit.

Katherine and I have been friends for about eight years. I love her…and I think that’s the problem. She tends to be dismissive of the people that truly care about her; once, she was complaining about some friends that ditched her and I tried to make her feel better.

‘I love you.’
‘Yeah, but that’s unconditional love, so it doesn’t count.’
>_<

It’s like the people that are difficult, that are ‘fair-weather friends’, that cause drama and conflict, those are the people she wants to make the effort for- like, because they make it hard, it must be worthwhile or something. People that just love her, well, they’ll always be around so why bother with them, right? No, literally, that’s what she told me- ‘You’re Annie, I know you’ll always be there’. Way to make me feel appreciated.

So it’s been a couple months since we’ve seen each other. I still have the Christmas presents I bought her and Jacob [her brother] and after I text her to see if I should just wrap them for their birthdays instead, we finally get a day sorted to meet up and exchange gifts.

Now, it’s February, so giving gifts may seem redundant, but a month isn’t really that bad, considering her track record.

What bugs me more is that she promised she’d give me my birthday present with the Christmas one- she told me ages ago that she got me a ring for my birthday. I didn’t really want more jewelry, but she insisted that for my 21st, she had to get something special. So, okay, cool.

Except my birthday was in JULY. And now, nearly seven months later, still nothing.

It’s in her room, somewhere. [Her room used to look like a bomb went off in there, so the ‘lost in my bedroom’ excuse rings true] I’ve seen her a few times over the past few months, been at her place a couple of occasions, and each time, she’s acted chagrined and assured me she’ll look for it.

Now she’s moved out of home and in a weird power play with her parents, she can’t go back home for the next few months. [Even though they’re not at home for a few weeks at the moment because they’re off somewhere, for work, I think]

And I just think- fuck the ring. It was never about the ring. It was about me wanting to feel like I matter to her, that she’d go to the effort of cleaning up her goddamn room to find a present she apparently already bought for me. I mean, the girl moved out of house, she cleared out most of her belongings, but she can’t use that opportunity to locate the damn thing?

I just feel so small and insignificant. She’ll go all out for her other friends, spending ages personalizing little knick-knacks for them, getting lavish gifts, taking them to concerts and all that, but Annie…well, she’ll be fine, she can wait, it doesn’t matter.

Even when we finally hang out after months of nothing- well, the girl’s got a life, you know, heaps of friends, boyfriends/ex-boyfriends, parental drama- I get about 5% of her attention. We end up spending the morning going shopping for groceries, and most of that time, she spends ordering Chris around [he’s the ex, who she dumped for being ‘too needy and clingy’, yet she keeps him around to grab her groceries, take her clothes to and from the Laundromat, drive her to different places, etc].

Then at her place, she’s tidying up and showering and a million different things- she sits down for a few minutes before bouncing up to go take care of something. So while she’s off doing her own thing, Chris, Jacob and I bond over Merlin. Those guys are funny. [Gwen gives Merlin a flower: ‘she wants to have sex with him’/Gwen gives Morgana a bouquet: ‘they’re lesbian lovers!’]

But hey, leaving aside the lack of any significant interaction, at least I actually got my Christmas present. Dogma. A dvd she got off e-bay. Used, with a whole lot of scratches. I should feel happy, because I love that movie, but at the moment…my reaction’s more of a ‘huh, shitty copy of a dvd that was going for $15 at JB Hi-Fi. How cheap does she want to be?’

Thank god for LJ. I just don’t think I’m cut out for friends in real life.

Fandom yayness:

Surprisingly, I'm reading a Harry Potter fic that isn't SSHG. Quelle surprise! I just devoured 44 chapters of Arsinoe de Blassenville's The Best Revenge. It's a Snape-mentors-Harry story and by god, it sunk its claws into me and would not let me wrest free.

This fic? Is what I wish CANON was like. It's infinitely SUPERIOR to canon and not in a fanfic way, but literally like it could've been published. I would've paid money for this fic, seriously. It fixes everything that I had a problem with in the books and surpasses them in terms of making Harry more likable and sympathetic. The boy actually studies and tries to achieve things and learn spells! Who'da thunk it? Also, Harry genuinely cares about other people and tries to help- canon!Harry is stunningly lacking in empathy or compassion.

And there is character development! *gasps* The amazing thing is that Harry and Draco are friends in this fic but Draco isn't  whitewashed til he's unrecognizable- given his upbringing, he has the same inevitable prejudices and flaws as in canon, but we get to see the positive effect Harry has on him in such a believable way. There is compromise and 'agreeing to disagree' instead of Draco miraculously converting to Muggle-lover in a heartbeat.

The best thing about the fic is the way that kids from all four Houses form friendships, and we have the core quartet that includes Draco and Hermione and Neville and makes it seem realistic that these very different kids would hang out with each other and actually grow to like each other over time, going from distant tolerance to real friendship.

And I won't babble about how much I love Snape in this. *bounces* Just take it as read, yo. ^_^

If anyone knows any epic-length mentor!Snape fics, rec me? Preferably gen!fic with no major ships [especially not involving Hermione, as I doubt there exists a perfect fic that has 'Severitus' plus SSHG]. I don't want to go looking because I'd have to wade through the Snarry fics and my brain does not need to deal with that.

You know how I love to compare and contrast Castle/Mentalist. We’ve had the female cop/male consultant post and the Patrick Jane/Kate Beckett post…now there’s a different theme.

Castle 2 x 15- Suicide Squeeze

Roy: Sure you got no cop in the Castle family tree?
Castle: No, us Castles are mostly con artists and circus folk.

Roy: No, I think there’s a little cop in there somewhere.

Beckett: Con artists and circus people, huh?
Castle: Yup, and mind readers.
Beckett: Really? So tell me what I’m thinking.

Castle: Ah! You’re thinking…you don’t care and you want me to stop talking.
Beckett: Ooh, that’s uncanny.

Mentalist:

The above conversation calls to mind interactions between Jane and Lisbon in no less than three different episodes!

CARNIVAL/CIRCUS [pot-ay-to/pot-ah-to]

1x 06- Red-handed
Jane: Everyone's palace is different. It has to be big and detailed and vivid. My palace is a mid-western carnival circuit I used to travel with my father.
Lisbon: Your people are carnie folk. You're finally starting to make sense to me.

MIND READING

1 x 09- Flame red

Jane: Now I have access to all your innermost thoughts.
Lisbon: Yeah, right.

Jane: I'm serious.
Lisbon: Okay. So what am I thinking right now?

Jane: You're thinking, I'm so glad Jane is joking around and he can't actually read my mind.
Lisbon: No. Well, actually, yes, but not for the reason you think.

Jane:
What reason do I think?
Lisbon: Never you mind.
Rigsby: You're blushing.
Jane: You are blushing.

UNCANNY

1 x 18- Russet Potatoes

Lisbon: Is there a word for ‘uncanny yet irritating’?

Yes. I’m reaching particularly wildly with this. But come on, I’ve only heard the term ‘uncanny’ used twice on tv in the past year, so I choose to think I’m justified in linking them…it takes a talented mind to weave all these together, am I right? :P

---

There are a few moronic clichés that make me laugh myself silly or shriek til I’m hoarse every single time.

One of them is the ol’ ‘noble character throws themselves between another character and object of impending death’. Why why WHY, for the love of fandom, do these people hurl themselves through the air? How can they POSSIBLY calculate the correct angle and trajectory and factor in the wind and velocity of the weapon and all that within microseconds?

It just defies belief that this seemingly futile maneuver actually works, time and again! One of these days, I want to see someone pull that stunt, only to have miscalculated and wind up passing before or after the bullet/sword/alternative weapon and land roughly on the ground, winded, only to look up and find that not only did they make a fool of themselves, but the object of their concern got killed anyway. BECAUSE IT’S SO STUPID.

Why not at least launch yourself in the direction of the person you’re trying to protect? That way, even if you judged the distance and speed of the weapon incorrectly, your body will absorb the hit anyway- but in the best case scenario, you knock them out of the way and actually survive in the process!

Of course, the whole point of this maneuver is that the Character Dies Heroically. Which I get and if their number is up, that’s it. But couldn’t they die with a little dignity? Because that just makes me giggle and eyeroll like mad, it doesn’t make me respect them or mourn them to a greater degree.

---

LotS 2 x 10- Perdition.

I have major issues with the penultimate scene.

x:x:x:x:x

Firstly, evil!T’Pol’s arcs of electricity are spiking all over the place.

Even if someone bodily blocks her shot, surely she can shoot it over their head and down onto Kahlan? Or is the idea of a parabola beyond her intellect? As these caps show, Kahlan could’ve been hit anytime before Leo nobly sacrificed his life in a dumb-ass maneuver calculated to be stupidly heroic.

I like Leo, but that move of his? Only works because the Dramatic Laws of Wibbly Self-Sacrifice demand it, not because it could realistically succeed. I mean, the lightning has to GO OUT OF ITS WAY to fry him! First it's over his head, then beneath his body, and it needs to reposition itself in order to zap him, wtf?

Secondly, T’Pol has all that time between Leo’s crispy frying and Richard’s return to zap Kahlan.

Cara's grief-stricken, Kahlan's a sitting duck...
Why does she pause? Apart from dramatic effect, there is no reason she couldn’t have let loose a bolt right then and ended Kahlan.

Thirdly, she waits for Richard to enter stage left and take up position between her and the ladies- and she tries to zap him. Um, hello? The Keeper needs Richard alive to fulfil the prophecy! Killing KAHLAN helps your master, killing RICHARD foils his evil plan? Wtf, woman?

And then- this.

Leo dies for nothing? He could’ve used the Sword of Truth to fend off the lightning instead of being a human body shield? *facepalm*

I will admit, though, that this shot of the three ladies is made of epic win. Do we need Richard? Really? Can’t we keep Verna instead?

ALSO. Note the lack of woobie!Kahlan whimpering about the people that have died for her. Richard and a few other headdesk!inspiring heroes *cough* HARRYPOTTER* cough* could stand to learn a bit about poise and dignity from her. She doesn’t like it, but she’s a pragmatist and she deals with it minus the annoying angsting and temper tantrums. GOD, I wish this show was called Legend of the Mother Confessor instead.

x:x:x:x:x

Btw. You know what’s sad? I only just realized the pun from Heroes- Elle, who was able to wield electricity? Elle/electricity=Elle-ctricity? God, I can’t believe that only just hit me. *facepalm*

Whee! My OTP, of course. Especially art featuring them- I love doing the weekly SSHG quizzes because I score shiny banners, woohoo!

Okay, so realistically, what’s the point, what am I ever going to do with them, right? But it’s the mystery and anticipation of which banner will come next- will it be a repeat, a dud…or spectacularly cool!

I recently discovered A Very Potter Musical. I'm not in love with it- I have issues with comedy, it can be mean and I'm too protective of my favorites to be able to cope- but it's a very clever parody and I do enjoy how it mocks canon and how ridiculous the plot is. The following clip contains my favorite song of the whole show: Granger Danger! It's so catchy and I've been singing it over and over...

'I'm falling in love, falling in love, falling in love, I could be falling in love,  falling in love, falling in love with Hermione Granger...'

Draco and Ron are hysterical.

Ron: God, why don't you just give her a break for once, okay, Malfoy?
Draco: Why defending her, Weasley? Have a crush?
Ron: NO, no...why all the insults, Malfoy? Covering up a crush?

And the lyrics!
Ron: Strange how a dress can take a mess and make her nothing less than beautiful to me...
Draco: What? What the hell is this, you expect me to sing about her? Don't care about her. It's just a little make-up, Draco, wake up, you're mistaken...

*gigglefit*

[I d/l the soundtrack but most of the songs are Voldemort or Voldy/Quirrel. I'm not sure if there are other songs besides the ones on the soundtrack, let me know if there are?]

I have friends a bit like that too - one at the moment is overseas and somehow like cut us ALL out of her life until it suits her to let us back in. Doesn't answer emails - even to let us know she's alive. >: (

It's seriously not cool that she just assumes you'll always be there, though, when she isn't reciprocating really. A friendship is like any other relationship - it takes two. But good on your for sticking with her - that makes you a very loyal friend. :)

Thank you. I don't know if blind loyalty is all that praise-worthy, but I don't have many people with the amount of history I have with her, I can't just cut her out of my life, even if I'm unhappy with the way she's so dismissive of our friendship. I know it doesn't mean as much to her as it does to me, but what good would it do to just sever ties altogether? I wonder if it's just the wuss in me speaking, though. *eyeroll*

I'm sorry about your friend that ditched the rest of you guys. *huggles* It doesn't take much effort to reply and say she's fine. >_<

At least if I text Katherine, I'll get a reply from her- or her brother. *sighs* I really envy the way she has the guys in her life wrapped around her little finger. She'll order them to take care of things for her and they'll fall over themselves to do it. I WANT THAT POWER.

GOD, I wish this show was called Legend of the Mother Confessor instead - I've been saying that for ages! Hehehe. But, having that said...I don't really cut it up as much as I used to. I'm happy having Richie around and I've become a lot more fond of him lately. I mean, I loved Leo...but having Leo and Phillip around just made me appreciate Richie more. *huggles him* There is always a lot to see about an episode that is totally improbably but happened anyway and the biggest thing there was that Leo had to die. In order for Richard to be the seeker again, Leo had to go and it was better for him to go protecting Kahlan than to die for something stupid. I'm glad he went the way he did, because then it didn't diminish any of the love I had for him. Then I can just let it go with grace, the way Kahlan did. (My GOD, she handles things amazingly.)

*squees at your icon* GAHHH! Ep 11, y/y? I just d/l it, I haven't had time to watch it yet, but if the reaction of fandom is any indication...*prepares to die from the awesome* I came across a few GIFs of Kahlan v Kahlan. I think it's started a new ship, lol. *headdesks at fandom*

The thing with Richard is that he's the hero and he's CONSTANTLY requiring a rescue! I really did like him in the second season and then it's gone back to the ol' 'Richard's in trouble again' thing. Very annoying. But I do like his increased maturity as compared to the first season. [Which, OMG, I now have on dvd, thanks to relatives visiting from the US!]

In order for Richard to be the seeker again, Leo had to go and it was better for him to go protecting Kahlan than to die for something stupid. I'm glad he went the way he did, because then it didn't diminish any of the love I had for him.

I didn't think I'd like Leo so much and it was so surprising to realize I found him rather endearing in his inept attempts to woo Cara! Lol, just bare that muscled chest, don't try your dorky lines on her, dude! It was a shame he had to die, but as he got named Seeker, he was doomed from the start...why to make him likable, PTB, why?!

I don't mind him dying for Kahlan, it was the WAY he died for her! I'm gonna chalk it down to his superior Seeker reflexes kicking in and letting him know when and where to fling his body, because...it just doesn't work, really. *facepalm*

Then I can just let it go with grace, the way Kahlan did. (My GOD, she handles things amazingly.)

She is my role model! Well, okay, I love Cara and her offer to teach Kahlan to block off unhelpful emotions and the whole 'I'm fine'/'why are you crying over a SWORD?' LMAO!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed the Mentalist/Castle similarities in that last Castle episode. Don't get me wrong, I like Castle but because I am first and foremost a Mentalist fan, that whole 'reading mind' sequence did kind of irritate me .... just because I dunno, I love that scene so much in The Mentalist and ... okay, I watch Psych and they continually take the piss out of The Mentalist for "ripping off" their show (even though they're NOT the same show at all ... that's a whole different issue) and the first few times it was funny and free publicity for The Mentalist but now it's "Okay, we GET THE POINT" .... and know they didn't put that scene in Castle to copy The Mentalist at all but in my mind I think I'm just fed up with seeing the same plotlines play out on two shows so close to each other. This isn't just to do with Castle/Mentalist but other shows too. I know it's my fault for watching so many damn crime shows but every time they regurgitate storylines, I lose my faith in show writers just a bit more.

Regarding your friend I know this is the hardest thing to hear but she really likes the sort of friend you can do without. I know you have a lot of history and it's easier to put up with the way she treats you than let her go but like every relationship being treated like this isn't fair to you. I have friends like her and most of the time I stop making the effort but if they contact me/make the effort I won't dismiss them, we'll still meet up and whatever but I know that they're a casual friend rather than someone I can count on and you just have to accept that.

*hugs*

(PS. It's really late here and I should have gone to bed ages ago so sorry if I'm not making much sense! Lol!)

They were pretty blatant, huh? I mean, okay, most people would brush it off as coincidence, but where's the fun in that, right? :P Part of the fun of being in so many fandoms is picking out the similarities! Mother and I have a bit of a competition, actually, it makes watching more interactive!

watch Psych and they continually take the piss out of The Mentalist for "ripping off" their show (even though they're NOT the same show at all ... that's a whole different issue)

ARGH. That bugs me so much. I hate it when fans pay out Mentalist and say it's a crappy rip-off. Yes, the guys consulting have way out-there talents; but the Psych dude really IS psychic and Jane is not! [Though he might as well be, given that Jane=God in the show; never was a character more self-aware than Jane with his 'This is God speaking']

Their motivations for doing what they do, their personality traits, their lives...completely different! I recognize there's an element of similarity, but RIPPING OFF, no.

I think I'm just fed up with seeing the same plotlines play out on two shows so close to each other.

*squishes you* It's a shame it bugs you, bb. It must be frustrating because these days, there are very few totally original plots that have never been done before in some way.

I have a totally different reaction- I kinda enjoy seeing the different way shows handle the same things. I think it might do with having come from a sci-fi background. I don't know about you, but my first loves were sci-fi and you kinda expect shows to share the same storylines: time-travel, switching bodies, alternate versions of the same characters...the fun is in anticipating when they'd do it and what their take on it would be...so I guess that makes me view plot!sharing on Castle/Mentalist/etc. with more tolerance.

I know you have a lot of history and it's easier to put up with the way she treats you than let her go but like every relationship being treated like this isn't fair to you. I

*winces* I know, I knooowww...and it's really hurt me a lot, but- gah, I think she has some sort of magical charm, it's ridiculous how charismatic she is. I might be super pissed off and she can talk me out of it, it's annoying. I know I have valid objections but she's the sort of person that can wheedle you out of anything.

Damn. I don't know why I still care about her so much when it's obvious I mean so little to her but I don't exactly have a wide social base, so I try to be happy with whatever I can get and just- suck it up the rest of the time. Doesn't reflect very well on me, but...IDK.

hey're a casual friend rather than someone I can count on and you just have to accept that.

I've come to terms with that- or at least, I know that I need to come to terms with it, just the whole 'getting over it' process is easier to say than do. You make a lot of sense, despite the hour, I get what you're saying. I just need to repeat this to myself until I can feel it for real. *nodnod*

Sleep well, hon. *hugs you*

I love Severitus and I know tons of Snape-mentors-Harry type fics. They were where I first started. Funny how your HP fandom life is an exact reflection of my own! *hugs you fondly

My recs are from a while ago, since I've moved into HG/SS now. There are probably more recent ones out there that I don't know. But these are all classics should keep you busy for a while :-)

Resonance by GreenGecko ([profile] darkirony) and its sequels, Revolution and Resolution are definitely epic-length, beautifully written, addictive.

In Blood Only by EM Snape, already mentioned above.

Harry Potter and the Battle of Wills by Jocelyn ([profile] jocelyncs)

Blood Magic by Gateway Girl ([personal profile] gatewaygirl)

Go with the Tide by Tantz, and its sequel, Go with the Tide II: Seeing is Believing, which contained inspiration for the latest chapter of Iridescent Snow, by the way ;-) (Which you haven't read yet *teasing sniff)

The original Severitus that started it all: (but be warned, it's an abandoned fic)--A Father's Sin by Severitus

The mother of all Snape-mentors-Harry: A Year Like None Other by aspeninthesunlight ([profile] aspenlight), for which I've actually written fan fictions of the fan fiction (my first foray into fic-writing!) Song from the Heart, Interregnum, and Drowning.

*bows

Enjoy :-)

Yes you're her friend because you love her and all that, but really...doesn't sound like to me she really loves you, not like she should. She should count herself damn lucky to have a friend like you. *hugs*

Well, I've come to terms with the fact that she's not my best friend anymore. Not even much of a good friend. She may not love me, which it stings to admit, but if I desperately need her help, she'll still come through. My internet account's been suspended at uni and she gave me her student card so that I could use hers instead. Considering my life's meaningless without the internet and my connection to you guys, that was a very important gesture, even if she doesn't really understand how significant it is.

Well, the meme's seriously limited in some areas- she should've come up again for Threshold but I couldn't find a relevant pic! *sighs*

No offence, but your 'friend' doesn't sound like much of a friend at all. Not only with you, but she seems to be using the ex, which is a bit nasty.

People keep saying 'no offense' or the like; I appreciate that you're trying not to hurt my feelings, but I do recognize her flaws. *sighs* She's always been flighty that way, I guess I just don't want to wake up to the fact that I don't mean anything so I've been trying to justify it all away to make myself feel better. And it's really doing me no favors. Back in the day, we were so close and it hurts to realize that we've grown up and grown apart. Well, less 'we' than 'her'.

And yes, I really dislike the way she's using Chris. I think we all have a problem when it comes to Katherine. She sent him to pick me up when she had some free time the other day and the poor boy was complaining, 'We're not even dating anymore and she still sends me out to do things for her.' *shakes head*

About your friend, she's ungrateful and sounds like she doesn't appreciate you at all. I'm sorry, I just don't believe that being friends with someone means you have to take all that crap from them. I would have cut all ties with that person a long time ago. You deserve to be treated better than that, and this person has practically told you they don't care about your friendship enough to put some effort into it.

Yeah, but that’s unconditional love, so it doesn’t count.

okay, seriously, right there I'd have been urging you to drop this "friend". it she honestly thinks unconditional love is somehow less important/worthy, she's not worth your time/effort/attention and she sure as eff isn't worth letting yourself get upset over. her behavior in general sounds ungrateful and self-absorbed and just obnoxious *pets you*

i mean, i've gotten people their birthday presents late but she's just being not-cool *hug*

maybe Castle and Jane are long-lost brothers? *thinks on it* could be...

you're right. that scene has serious logistic issues (but you get bonus points for working in a dig at Harry, lol)

ooh, the collage thing is cool :D

zomg, that HP musical thing is FUNNY (0.0 "What the hell is this?!?!")

*dies*

I make a lot of excuses for her. I guess I just didn't want the one last friend I had slip away, ugh, so crushing for the ego, y'know? But she's hurting me the way things are going now, so yeah, I guess we're more like amicable acquaintances rather than close buds. *sighs* I never really understood why me, willing to drop everything for her and do anything for her, was less important than the girls she fights with and there's endless drama and conflict. IDK. Maybe their friendship feels better because it's fought for or something, it doesn't make sense to me. But I've always been the person that others leave behind, so it was kinda inevitable she'd do it eventually.

maybe Castle and Jane are long-lost brothers?

:D Crack!fic! Although Castle doesn't know who his father is, amirite? So technically, they COULD be brothers!

but you get bonus points for working in a dig at Harry, lol

*preens* Thought you'd like that. :D It's true, though, I've never seen a female lead wangst about how she's responsible for everyone dying and every single bit of misery and suffering is a direct result of her opposing the villainous character intent on enslaving and/or killing off humanity. *shakes head*

'course, that could be 'coz ONLY MALES CAN BE HEROES. *stabs cliche* Is it too much to ask to get a heroine as the lead once in a while? Honestly, I think that's why I love Labyrinth so much, Sarah is so cool and she rocks the whole movie on her own without needing idiotic boy sidekicks.

I laughed so hard at the HP musical! I didn't watch the whole thing because it's a little bit disrespectful [especially to Snape] and I don't really enjoy that kind of thing, but the part I saw was hilarious.

Ah, that collage thing is so cool! I shall do my own and it shall be good.

‘Yeah, but that’s unconditional love, so it doesn’t count.’

WTF? Unconditional love is like the best love there is.

Your friend sounds... I don't know, my best friend can be a little like that as well, and this year she was super late with a Christmas present but then she gave me an awesome one, so I wasn't upset or anything. Is she uncomfortable with showing affection or something? That's just... odd. No wonder you're frustrated!

I just don’t think I’m cut out for friends in real life.

Awww... *snuggles*

I don't want to go looking because I'd have to wade through the Snarry fics and my brain does not need to deal with that.

SNARRY? LMAO

What is Harry and Hermione, is that like... Harmione? Or Potmionie? Or Harherpotmionie?

Potterninnie?

it takes a talented mind to weave all these together, am I right? :P

You could put it that way. :P

How can they POSSIBLY calculate the correct angle and trajectory and factor in the wind and velocity of the weapon and all that within microseconds?

I'm going to go with magic.

Definitely TV/movie magic.

only to look up and find that not only did they make a fool of themselves, but the object of their concern got killed anyway.

Oh dude, you're so harsh.

Can you imagine the guilt that poor SOB will feel when he/she/it sees that the person they tried so valiantly to protect has died anyway? They'll probably kill themselves. And you will be responsible for the death of a character - I HOPE YOU'RE PROUD.

I'm in a weird mood, obviously.

Um, hello? The Keeper needs Richard alive to fulfil the prophecy! Killing KAHLAN helps your master, killing RICHARD foils his evil plan? Wtf, woman?

Yeah, that was a dumb move right there.

I don't watch this show but I'm just rolling with it.

And goddamn Emma Watson is looking a little risque in that photo collage of yours there! tut tut tut

Your picture meme is awesome. Miss Parker & Jarod and Hotch/Prentiss FTW. And the Stargate totally looks like a shakrum (which I'm certain I'm not spelling correctly).

Katharine sounds like a sociopath who needs to be kicked to the curb tout suite.

Evil T'Pol is funny.

That Severus-mentors-Harry fic looks like epic awesome. It is bookmarked for later reading.

And:

I love that picture meme, it's the best ever! And it came up with some really good pics for my ships! And lol, yes, I hadn't realized that the Stargate looked like Xena's chakram. I guess because it's usually presented on a massive scale, I never really related it to anything else...Well spotted!

*headdesk* You're probably right.
You know, I never understood those people that blamed themselves for something when it was obviously the other person's fault and yet- I can't snap myself out of thinking if only I was more fun, more outgoing, then she'd want to hang out with me. Ugh, it's kinda true such rubbish but I go on those mental loops anyway.

Also. 'Tout suite'! I had to look that up, very cool! Unfortunately one of those phrases that looks better written than verbally expressed, but ah well. *adds to vocab*

Hee, evil!T'Pol rocks my socks. Even if she did squick me out with these lewd scenes with a creepy spider. WHY was she looking so ecstatic as it crawled over her body, WHYYYY? *applies brain bleach*

Oh my god. I'm so excited you're going to read it later. I was totally thinking of you when I read it. I was never really into the whole idea of Snape and Harry til you brought up the adoptive father idea. That's not the plot in this fic but discussing it with you made me a little more open to the whole idea of this 'Sevitus/Severitus' thing.

Anyway, REALLY, that fic totally is epic awesome! And if I can say that about one that doesn't involve my ship at all, you know it must be something special.

In an alternate universe, this COULD have been the published Harry Potter book, no kidding. It's so- well-rounded? Like, no offense to these types of fics, but some are very narrow in scope, focusing only on the ship in question, which isn't a bad thing in my eyes when they're the only people I care about anyway. But I'm impressed by fics that make you feel like you're in the middle of a whole new world populated by real, breathing characters.

And omg, it's so great, these characters make reasonable decisions- not always the best decisions, they're not unrealistically infallible, but they're not hampered by plot-required stupidity and I don't think I was once tempted to pound their heads into a wall! I actually like her Harry, it's incredible. And the quartet is awesome. And I think I'm repeating myself from my post, so I'll shut up now.

Except to say that it fixes EVERYTHING I had an issue with in the series, namely because as the author said:

After thinking for months about things I disliked in canon, I have accepted that JKR is a professional writer—a professional writer—who had a seven book contract. In order to fulfill that contract and earn money, she had to create situations that would draw the story out and make each adventure last a full school year. To do this, she required characters who did not communicate very effectively—or at all. She also required absurdities like the whole premise of Goblet of Fire. However, my Harry now has a mentor whom he will trust, who is intelligent and has a broad knowledge of the Dark Arts. He will talk to him, and vice versa. Minerva McGonagall will also be more personally interested in Harry and consider his best interests. I do not have to make the mystery last an entire school year to fill a book, so events may transpire very differently and more quickly than in canon.

I'll warn you now, there's a minor romance involving one of the main characters. It made me want to smash a window when I first read it but it was really well-written and I grumpily decided to go with it in the end. [At least it's not as bad some the R/Hr I refuse to put up with- bad enough it's canon, I ain't gonna read it in fics, even if the mentor relationship is superb]

:D
I wish I could wipe the memory of reading it just so I could go back and enjoy it for the first time all over again. *sighs* Just a shame I can't find anything of that standard in the rest of fandom, I had to find the most brilliant fic on the first go and now nothing else can measure up, ack.

*hugs you back*
