Gosh, it was hard trying to think of items for the list that didn't include fandom. My life, so boring!

Happy list of yayness

For the first time ever, I managed to have KFC three days in a row. My cousin, my mother and then my aunt/Ma shouted me. ^_^ Well, it’s not doing my health any favors, but my ‘diet’ makes me happy.
-

My psychologist. My first session last week went well. I turned up, intending it as a one-time only, but she convinced me to return for the next five government-funded sessions and I figured why the hell not? It’s not like I’m doing anything else with my life, right? And discussing my lack of direction atm and the utter failure I am is oddly comfortable when it’s to someone who’s paid to hear people whinge incessantly, I don’t feel bad when I know they’re getting compensated for putting up with me.
-

I was wary when she told me we were going to have a talk, because those never end well. But we ended up eating junk food in a park and having a lovely chat!

We talked about the family situation and while it was going well between us before, it’s even better now that we’ve officially sorted out that we’re okay with each other. I apologized, she told me something I’ve never heard before-‘it’s all about you’ [!]- and that she’s put what happened behind us because she just wants to help me find something to do and get to a good place in my life. I never wanted to have this talk because I was afraid that deep inside, she was still seething with anger and resentment but it happened and ended so much better than I had thought possible!

There was also much fandom-y conversation. A lot of times in the past, she’s dismissed my interest in tv because it’s pointless and won’t get me anywhere, but we were in that park for a few hours and half the convo was about different shows. Castle, Mentalist, even Dollhouse and A Very Potter Musical, lol. [I have the songs on my phone and played them for her]

She showed interest, she indulged my fangirly side and I had a fantastic time. Such a mama’s girl!

Sucky list of suckitude

I broke a fingernail. :-[

I grow them out as long as possible- because I think they look cool that way...

...but when one inevitably breaks, then the rest of them need to be trimmed. And I hate how stumpy my fingers look with short nails!

Short being a relative term, I refuse to cut them at the same level or below than the length of my finger- I don't understand how people can have brutally short nails, it makes me wince.
-

*facepalm*
I shrieked and cowered no less than three times last night, shuddering and insisting that there was a mouse running loose in the house. My poor grandmother dutifully rose and beat around corners and under beds and in likely hidey-holes, but failed to turn up any hint of a rodent each time. It was completely embarrassing and yet I couldn’t suppress my squeals each time I saw a dark shape scuttling around, tail slithering behind it. *twitches*

I’m sure Ma thinks I’ve lost my mind, it undermines my claim to sanity, jumping at shadows but I know what I saw! What I think I saw…ugh.
-

I absolutely loved this fantasy novel, the name of which shall not be revealed in case I inadvertently spoil one of you, and was so into the series that I contemplated buying the next book [or harassing the library into buying it for me].

When I spied it in Borders, I figured I’d take a peek at the final chapter to see if the chick ends up with the guy I wanted- well, win/lose. MAJOR loss. While they do hook up, and she even becomes pregnant, the very last words are ominous: ‘And then he knew no more’. Um, WTF? This is how it ends?

It could be in the less-scary ‘and then he fell asleep and knew no more til the following day when he woke up in bed with the Love of His Life’, but…considering he was in a duel where he sustained numerous wounds…and also the way it reminds me of this craptastic scene: ‘And then Snape moved no more…’ Yeah, depressing. It sucks so hard it reaches back in time to retroactively ruin my enjoyment of the first book. *pouts*

Meme time:

Snurched from dragonladyk:
When you see this, post a poem to your own journal.

(a) Colours

When your face

appeared over my crumpled life

at first I understood

only the poverty of what I have.

Then its particular light

on woods, on rivers, on the sea,

became my beginning in the coloured world

in which I had not yet had my beginning. I am so

frightened, I am so frightened,

of the unexpected sunrise finishing,

of revelations

and tears and the excitement finishing.

I don't fight it, my love is this fear,

I nourish it who can nourish nothing,

love's slipshod watchman.

Fear hems me in.

I am conscious that these minutes are short

and that the colours in my eyes will vanish

when your face sets.

The Marry/Shag/Throw off a cliff Meme:

From mw48.

Marry- Bill Weasley
I’ve googled him and can’t find one definitive picture of this character. The internet offers me a variety of choices, some attractive, some…not.

Still, out of a series of unappealing choices, this dude would be the best of the bunch, I suppose. He’s supposed to be charming, competent and caring, isn’t he? A hard-working dude who's still adventurous and glamorous, I'm all over it. Marriage to him would be a much better deal than to Ron or the Terrible Twins, ugh. *stabs them*

Shag- Draco Malfoy

Way too young for me, but he’s attractive, I’ll give him that much. Even if his character ended up being a disappointment. Can anyone tell me what he was even doing during DH? Was he at Hogwarts under the DE regime or what?

Throw off a cliff- Sirius Black

Oh, definitely off a cliff, chomped to bits by sharks and ground into kibble for the bottom-feeders. Loathe this guy so much. Why, YES, I’m holding a grudge on Snape’s behalf, what of it? I may be biased, but his general conduct doesn’t speak very highly of him- this dude endangers everyone’s lives on several occasions, and wtf, he even ATTACKS RON AND INJURES HIM but nobody gives a damn and holds him accountable because- what? Oh, JKR tells us he’s a good guy and they don’t get held to the same standards as villains. They can hex people and be rotten vindictive bullies who commit attempted murder using their supposed best friend as the weapon with absolutely no remorse, but oh no, they’re still Good Guys. But if someone JKR hates does the exact same thing or anything ten degrees below this, we’re supposed to judge them for it and delight at them nearly getting killed or scarred for life or something.

/rant. I’m going to stop myself there or I’ll never stop harping on about her childish black-and-white view of the world and absolute failure to grasp the complexities of human nature, along with her pathetic excuse for a moral compass and-

-oh, right, I was stopping. *lips zipped shut*

From sunkrux.

Hermione

I would definitely marry her! What does Ron have to offer her that I can’t?

Well, besides possessing magic and also seven years of history where they bonded through surviving numerous near-death moments and banded together to defeat an evil wizard [even if it was ridiculously contrived and they displayed all the ingenuity of a lobotomized patient due to the horrifyingly crappy writing talents of JKR].

Also, children. I don't know if that would be a deal-breaker or not. *coughs* 'coz I so do not plan on ever having kids, kthxbai.

But at least I wouldn’t constantly insult her as a form of, IDK, demonstrating affection or refuse to make a move on her yet react with vindictive jealousy and making her cry when she so much as looks at another love interest.

And I share her love of books and the library, so we’d have that to bond over. :P

Snape

Totally shagging him. >:D

Seriously, I know the majority of the population don’t understand his appeal, but he is just mesmerizing to me. I am utterly bewitched and ensnared and so into him, it’s crazy.

I’d marry him, I love him so much, but I think I’d irritate him. And my skin isn’t thick enough to weather all the inevitable barbs and criticism he’d hurl at me as I attempt to forge some sort of emotional connection. I leave that to hardier types, like Hermione. :P

Roxton

Off the cliff! Look, this guy already literally fell off a cliff in the show and not only escaped unscathed, but with a really great hair-cut to boot!

From this:

To this:

Maybe the next dive off a cliff will also end up a blessing in disguise, like maybe Marguerite can drag him out this time, and they might get at least half an hour in private without a Momentus Interruptus.

Hee, my arteries must hate me. Oh, well, may as well enjoy it while I'm young. When I develop heart disease and other ailments I'll regret it then. Cross my bridges when I get to them and all that. [My doc last year did warn me my cholesterol was getting worrisome and to watch my diet...oops?]

OMG, I'm going to miss Sonya when I'm finished- I only get six government-funded sessions, and I'm too much of a cheapskate to pay my own way [$150!] so that'll be the end for us. *wibbles* Look at me, borrowing trouble, I've still got four to go. *looks on the bright side*

But- but- I like my nails long! *determinedly grows them* :P That clacking sound on keyboards, I like it. This is why I liked Katherine's ex-boyfriend, Chris, he was the first and only person to be kinda awestruck by the nails and how cool they sounded on the keyboard.

*joins in kicking the author* The first novel was brilliant, I rec'd it to mother and she's halfway through it now. I can't bring myself to ruin it for her, but...I'll just be like, 'Oh, we should wait for the library to get it' and then hope she'll forget it over time.

What I thought was neat was how:

Spoiler:

*totally agrees on the marry/shag/cliff picks*

Bwahaha. Much as I love Snape, I'm totally not the right type of personality to deal with him. *sads* I'm better off as a helplessly devoted fangirl!

*hugs you* my doc had to put me on Lipitor because my cholesterol was so high when I was watching my diet. KFC would not be good for me. Have you seen this new thing they have (if they even have it down there)? It's a sandwich with cheese and bacon and, instead of bread, they put it between two slabs of fried chicken. Seriously, my arteries harden just looking at the commercial for it. But I'm sure it's very satisfying/comforting, too, lol

Do they have free/discounted clinics down there? might be worth looking into. wouldn't be the same therapist but you could still find one you like. ask Sonya about it, maybe? *hug*

*doesn't comment on how much more likely long nails are to accidentally get torn off*

okay, that ending sounds not cool at all *wibbles*

if I married Snape, I'd whip him into shape in no time (or "accidentally" end up swallowing the wrong potion): "Severus, here's how it's going to be. You're going to drop the emo bullshit, only terrorize students who actually deserve it, buy some robes that aren't black, take these happy pills with breakfast every morning, and get over that tramp Lily..."

just sayin' ;p

OMG! That sounds kinda neat but also very messy! *frowns*
But I still want to try one now...*tummy growls*

*doesn't comment on how much more likely long nails are to accidentally get torn off*

Haha, very funny, not commenting like that. *pokes you*
My nails have thankfully never gotten torn off *winces* but when they get too long, one will inevitably break, like on a light switch, and then I have to trim the rest. *sighs* You should've seen me in my Wolverine phase when I sharpened them into dangerous pointy claws. But I ended up scratching myself too much, lol, so I stopped that. *facepalm*

okay, that ending sounds not cool at all *wibbles*

IKR?! *clings to you*

"Severus, here's how it's going to be. You're going to drop the emo bullshit, only terrorize students who actually deserve it, buy some robes that aren't black, take these happy pills with breakfast every morning, and get over that tramp Lily..."

LMAO! That's brilliant! *pictures his flabbergasted face* It's a shame too many people don't like or don't understand him and can't just tell him some home truths mixed in with some affection, because otherwise that monologue would be totally brutal.

[Like my aunt the other telling me that I'm like a ten year old in the house, I don't do anything, I'm useless and cause everyone else heaps of stress, that Pa died at 71 and she'd like to see Ma make it further than that...yah, just a lot of really brutal honesty that had me in tears for hours]

Otoh, I do hate fics that have Hermione rehabilitating Snape and basically ordering him around, imposing hereslf on him as she attempts to give him a personality make-over and just being the boss of him. It's insulting. It's one thing for a mature woman to have strong ideas about how things will be and get him to compromise, it's another for a young woman condescendingly act like she knows what's best and baby him.

I hate this fic on ff.net that's got like, a thousand reviews, where in one chapter, Hermione barges into his room and gives him a special shampoo and a haircut, then in another, she forces him to go to a party, again barging into his rooms and when she finds him drunk, she simply carts him off to the party and then takes his wand so he can't Apparate out of there.

It gets worse and worse, but one of the most repulsive moments is when he's teaching her Legilimency and she's able to access his mind and, among other things, sees memories of his abusive father kicking the crap out of him and cutting him and this is what she has to say afterward:

"That was… amazing," she said, staring down at him in awe. "I never knew how interesting that would be."

*headdeskwallfloor*
I know it's just a fic and I shouldn't get so worked up about it, but I don't understand the 960 reviews for this crap.

Behold, KFC's "Double Down"

here's a blog post on it: http://www.foodgeekery.com/reviews/double-down-with-kfc/ & the nutritional info: http://www.kfc.com/doubledown/ not sure when it'll be available outside the States but I hope that this invention will help me get a job as enormous numbers of Americans start dropping dead :D

lmao. you as Wolverine. lovely thought ;p I so would do that kind of thing if I could do long nails (but mine rip so i never do grow them, lol)

*pets you* stupid book. i'm reading one now that I suspect is going to break my heart (12 fracking books into the series and I just can't see it ending well for once) *wibbles*

hey, i am nothing if not brutally honest *pets the Snape* All he needs is understanding and a firm-but-loving hand

(yeowch *hugs you* sounds like your Aunt gave you an earful. doesn't sound entirely fair to dump that all on a person at once...)

those fics sound just terrible. Hermione is pushy at times but I can't see Snape tolerating it and it's not good for people in relationships to treat each other like that

ignore the people on ff.net; I do (except the ones who leave me good reviews, lol). they're idiots, lol

OMG. That pic makes me SOOO HUNGRYYYY. *salivates*

OMNOMNOMNOM.

Though I think it needs a bit of bread on the outside. It just doesn't look right without it. I know that's their gimmick, the breadless burger, but come on. I know this is a weird thing for me to focus on, but I just think the chicken would be greasy and my fingers would be all oily and meh. That's where my head goes. Why it matters, I don't know, 'coz I eat my Wicked Wings with my hands so I'm not averse to touching chicken itself, but in a burger... *shrugs* Call me old-fashioned, but that's how I like mine.

I do like the caption: Life is short, make it shorter. Bwahaha!

I hope that this invention will help me get a job as enormous numbers of Americans start dropping dead :D

You morbid thing! *still crosses fingers for you*

lmao. you as Wolverine. lovely thought

Ha, really? Maybe I should consider that outfit for my hypothetical costume party that I'm always thinking about. Though the female version would be hotter.

Image

12 fracking books into the series and I just can't see it ending well for once

*ohnoes* I'm so sorry! *huggles* I hope it does improve, against all expectation. And would you let me know what series it is, so I don't read it? *rabidly anti-sad endings*

Did you buy these ones? That's even crummier, buying books for a series that you think is gonna be awesome, and then it disappoints you and you're left with these reminders of that disappointment. *sighs*

*pets the Snape* All he needs is understanding and a firm-but-loving hand

Lol! Very true! That describes his needs perfectly.

Oh, yeah, my aunt really let loose. I wasn't expecting it at all, and I still like her and all, but I'm more wary because if that's how she thinks of me, then....I don't know how to go back to the way it was before, y'know? She thinks all these awful things about me, and yet she's like, 'Don't take it personally', um, wtf? No, I'm going to be offended, duh! 'Don't get defensive', whatever.

can't see Snape tolerating it and it's not good for people in relationships to treat each other like that

Okay, so there are moments of affecting and caring, but after the way it began, I can't buy it at all. I hate fics where the writers change Snape so drastically to make the relationship work. Sign of a poor writer, to twist the characters around to get them where you need them.

Like JKR, for instance. People go on about how it's her world, her characters, it's not possible for her to write them OOC, but oh, I beg to freaking differ. *glares and burns her effigy*

Lol, that's my policy- ignore everyone but the great writers and nice reviewers. ^_^

my arteries hurt just looking at the Double Down. I'll stick to KFC's potato wedge and biscuits :D

me, morbid? I prefer "pragmatic" thank you ;p

hello, girl!Wolverine *leers and breaks out the icon*

in fairness, the books (The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher) remain excellent. Just... not happy. I'm still wibbling and I finished last week, lol. but considering there are 8 books minimum left in the series according to the author, it's not as bad as it could be (i was reading this assuming it would be the last). In spite of the wibbling and the whump I know Harry (the main character) and Murphy (possibly the most kickass female lead in literary history) are in for, I'll definitely be buying the next book at least and probably every one after. Now that it's been officially confirmed that Mister (the cat) will be okay, I have fewer misgivings even if Harry's life and future are hanging in the balance

it's hard to not be offended/defensive on things like what your aunt said. she really handled it poorly, imo

JRK, proof that someone writes worse fanfiction than you (okay, so i may have stolen that from another fandom, lol)

it's a good, happy policy :)

*hugs you*
