Rant of the day.

So frakking pissed off.
This will teach me not to first read the end of a fic to make sure it's one I can deal with-
will I make that mistake again.
200,000 words into the fic and then I find out my ship doesn't frakking stay together.
W. T. F. *angsty!flail* All those hours wasted!
I'd've rathered it remain unfinished than find out they separate. *snarls*
I like my 'happily ever afters', all right?
I don't care if it's childish, but if I wanted angst and misery and despair, I'd've stuck with the books, kthxbai. >:[
I don't even have the vocabulary to express how frustrated and disappointed I'm feeling right now.
Feel free to lend me your words, I find myself annoyingly inarticulate at the moment.

Also, the father's on leave this week. Imagine my joy.
Particularly since we had a battle of wills over the weekend over my fingernails, of all the most frakking petty things ever. I managed to reduce our face time to a mere hour over the two days and yet we still clashed. Takes real talent, no? I just cannot believe I'm 21 years old and he wants to ORDER me to cut my nails or else- the unspoken threat being that I can get out of his house if I don't like it. Lovely. I enjoy living with a control freak ever so much.

Amusing fact of the day.

Definition of 'grangerize:
1. To mutilate a book by clipping pictures out of it.
2. To illustrate a book by adding pictures cut from other books.

LMAO. I kinda want to read a fic about someone teasing Hermione Granger with the definition of her last name. *smirks* The girl worships books and the idea that her last name means to MUTILATE them, well...JKR is one twisted woman [but we knew that already]. Luckily for Hermione, nobody's smart enough to realize it or even think to do research on the matter, so it's unlikely to ever be used against her. *gigglesnorts* Hee. Poor girl.

I've been listening to a lot of angsty music lately. What can I say, sad songs- especially about unrequited love- 'tis my new favorite genre. I hate it in fic, but love it in music. Hmm.

Song recs for the sad soul )

Hit me with recs, if you feel so inclined. [Pretty please?]
Remember, angsty unrequited love. *nodnod* Bonus if it has violins, I'm a sucker for anything with violins, sounds so much more poignant, y'know?

To maintain the theme, an angsty poem:

I must not think of thee; and, tired yet strong,
I shun the love that lurks in all delight-
The love of thee- and in the blue heaven's height,
and in the dearest passage of a song.
Oh, just beyond the sweetest thoughts that throng
this breast, the thought of thee waits hidden yet bright;
But it must never, never come in sight;
I must stop short of thee the whole day long.
But when sleep comes to close each difficult day,
When night gives pause to the long watch I keep,
And all my bonds I needs must loose apart,
Must doff my will as raiment laid away
With the first dream that comes with the first sleep
I run, I run, I am gather'd to thy heart...'

-Alice Meynell

I love the last two lines. I confess to not knowing exactly what this poem means, I can't read poetry, my brain doesn't work that way, but the idea of being around someone you can't be with, and having to wait til your dreams, the only place where you find yourself welcome in their arms...*sighs*

I AM SAD. :[
You guys know how I crave crackalicious cracky goodness like a drug, right?
[TLW- case in point]

I heard about this supposed Snow White remake with Natalie Portman as a reincarnation of Snow White and seven NINJAS, instead of dwarves, sent to protect her from her Evil Stepmother's schemes.
How insanely awesome sounding is this?
Snow White and NINJAS, yo. Kung fu + fairytale = *insanely bouncy glee*

But whether or not the movie is real, rather than the figment of some lunatic's imagination, Natalie Portman apparently turned down the role. *woes* I love Natalie Portman, she adds class to her projects. [I don't care how badly Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium was savaged by critics, I'm buying it on dvd, shut up]

Question: What do Teresa Lisbon and Elizabeth Weir have in common?
[Apart from devastatingly handsome male colleagues- with *g* enviable high fashion hairstyles- who charm them into approving all sorts of insane plans?]

The Answer. [*facepalm* I have wayyy too much time on my hands...] )

Bonus pic of Torri:

Sedge wearing a Wraith wig! Hee! )

Meme! snurched from kat_rowe:

"Name your 15 absolute favorite couples [het/slash/canon/fanon] and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms."

'k, some of these I haven't dabbled in for ages but I've absolutely loved all of them at one stage or another, whether for a brief duration or with a never-ending, undying passion.

1. Marguerite Krux/Lord John Roxton [The Lost World]
2. Patrick Jane/Agent Teresa Lisbon [The Mentalist]
3. Prince Arthur Pendragon/Lady Morgana Le Fay [Merlin]
4. Admiral Bill Adama/President Laura Roslin [Battlestar Galactica]
5. Dr Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran [Stargate: SG-1]
6.  Dr Elizabeth Weir/Lt Col John Sheppard [Stargate: Atlantis]
7. Agent Emily Prentiss/Agent Aaron Hotchner [Criminal Minds]
8. Agent Fox Mulder/Agent Dana Scully [X-files]
9. Dr Gillian Foster/Dr Cal Lightman [Lie to Me]
10. Dr Gregory House/Dr Lisa Cuddy [House]
11. Jarod/Miss Parker [The Pretender]
12. Agent John Doggett/Agent Monica Reyes [X-files]
13. Agent Kate Daniels/Curran aka his Furry Arrogance- bwahaha. *gigglefit* Um. Yes, anyway... [the Kate Daniels novels]
14. Captain Kathryn Janeway/Commander Chakotay [Star Trek: Voyager]
15. Nathan Ford /Sophie Devereaux [Leverage]

*side note: word’s auto-correct suggests that Sophie’s last name ought to be spelt…’defraud’. Lmao*

Katy Perry- Hot 'n Cold

This makes me giggle so much. ^_^ If ever a couple gave off mixed signals [what with the kissing in other people's bodies and random 'accidental' groping and then marrying other guys], 'twould be these two.
marguerite_krux: (teresa- damn idiots)
I complain about petty things all the time, but at least I know they're petty. Some people are unbelievable.

Case #1.

So, Disney's releasing a movie called The Princess and the Frog [imaginative title! No, it's actually about a female astronaut on Mars, really], featuring its first black Princess, and we have groups supporting this move and saying how it promotes positive self-image amongst little black girls because they get their own special princess to idolize, the message is that you don't have to be white in order to be elegant and beautiful, you too are entitled to a prince, right? The merchandise will finally include a princess doll that matches their physical appearance! So far, so shiny. Then the wank begins.

*cut for ranting* )

Case #2.

Family groups outraged at former Hi-5 member Kellie Crawford posing for a men's magazine. TEH HORROR.

OMG, she doesn't even SHOW ANYTHING! Kids see people wearing less on the public beaches and at swimming pools, FFS.

*cut for ranting* )

This one I'm a little more sympathetic on.

Australian's Next Top Model hasn't even aired yet and there is controversy! This chick was told to gain weight or be kicked off the show. Cue complaints that fashion is unhealthy for teens and encourages negative self-image, blahdy blah blah. *yawns*  This isn't anything new, folks. But at least people are starting to speak out against unhealthily emaciated lookin' girls. I admit, I'm biased towards slender figures myself, but ribs poking out? Nuh-uh. Collarbones, though. *daydreams* I have a thing for collarbones, it's a little disturbing...

My cousin's hooked on WoW about as much as I am on LJ, know, a LOT. It's funny, she and her boyfriend will be on separate computers and messaging each other...from like, a foot away. *eyeroll* [At least they have shared interests, I'm sure couples have been torn apart by one partner's obsession and unwillingness to part from this alternate lifestyle]

Anyway, I was just acting out this scene for her the other day, but obviously, Torri does it SO MUCH BETTER. *twirls* How ridiculously cute is she? *squishes her* I love everything about this scene, the way she's reluctantly using her 'feminine wiles' [Rodney, you PIMP] and the hesitation in her voice, the uncertainty as she tries to fake!speak geek, the blinding smiles as she distracts Bill, the 'hurry it up!' desperate looks she gives McKay, and the relief as she flees once the job is done... she's literally skipping! HEE!

Following Voyager, I became hooked on SG-1 and Carter. I did care a lot about her but I think it was more because of the whole Sam/Jack relationship. I tend to love a show more and forgive its flaws if there is a ship I can support. But after being jerked around for several seasons, and then the unpleasantness of Carter's move to SGA, which had me [unfairly] hating her for a while, I got a little turned off. Seasons 9 and 10 and the movies rekindled my affection for her, but there's still that little bit of lingering meh-ness.

So for today, a character I've never had any doubts or reservations about loving whole-heartedly.

Elizabeth Weir.

'I'm still trying to understand how you thought it was a good idea to test this device by having someone throw you off a balcony...' )

Real life thing I am happy about...

Netty, who is awesome. A little too responsible and mature at times, making me look bad, but I forgive her for that, lol. I love her so much for accepting the fangirl that I am, instead of making fun of me like so many other people, and being willing to go on the wild journey of addiction to a variety of shows with me. We've done SGA, SG-1, and X-files so far. Working on Criminal Minds, Kyle XY and Gossip Girl right now. And I'm determined to get her into The Lost World, heh.

In addition to being easy to convert into a fan of multiple shows, she's also a great listener and sounding board when I'm upset or needing to vent about something. Of course, she has a boyfriend so I can't monopolize her all the time, sadly, but she does wonders for my morale.

marguerite_krux: (elizabeth-smile)
So random, but I was looking at movies on sale and came across 'The Cutter', featuring JOHN SHEPHERD, a cop-turned-PI who saves a woman called ELIZABETH and gets caught up in some conspiracy and has to shoot a lot of bad guys. I'm sure Sparky fans have already picked up on this, but it amused me greatly.

While I was wasting time in the newsagency, I flicked through the Stargate magazine today, reflecting on how awesome they are for featuring Elizabeth in not one but two articles, dealing with changes in the team and 'in memoriam'. What struck me as particularly amusing was the breakdown of the various characters' personalities and significant developments and noted achievements.

Jennifer Keller:
Best known for playing parlor games to pass the time

Elizabeth Weir:
Best known for a soft-spoken diplomatic manner* that masks extraordinary courage and resolution.

Yah, tell me again which one deserved to be on the show more? Based on actual MERIT, thanks.

*Which I find amusing considering that when she negotiates, she usually ends up in ass-kicking mode, all feisty and GRRR, so 'soft-spoken' doesn't leap to mind...but maybe they mean in everyday situations, lol.

cut for teeny tiny Keller spoiler that I don't even think is a spoiler anymore but... )

Rating: PG. Ish.
Genre:  drama, action, Elizabeth-centric
Setting: Season 3, pre Sunday. Because I live in denial.
Summary: Elizabeth is taken prisoner. She's in no mood to play damsel in distress.
Disclaimer: No infringement intended. Stargate Atlantis the show differs drastically from the way I write about it in my fics. I have way more respect and affection for Elizabeth than they do.

Finally, I get to see the first ep of the new seasons of the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I have to say, while I’m not obsessed with it, I certainly am a tiny bit hooked. Ok, it has a ton of plot holes, but I enjoy picking the eps to pieces. It's fun when they're imperfect and you get to nitpick every minor flaw. Heh. >:]

As usual, it’s the women that keep me interested in the show. Weird, that.

*The character recap of the surreally gorgeous cast looking all sexy-like reminds me of why I watch this show. For the PLOT.* )

So, I was bored one day, and I had all these crazy/semi-rational ideas in my head. Being the tidy, organized mental case that I am, I compiled a list. YAY LIST! Don't take it too seriously, and it'll be okay. XP

10. She ascends and like Chaya, she is allowed to remain with the city and people she loves and to protect them with her newfound powers of awesome. Seriously, how cool would this be?
[And as we all know, Ascended chicks and Shep tend to click…and Elizabeth’s way more special to him than those other wannabes.]
“I can do more for this city ascended than I ever could as my own sweet salient self…”

Genre: Prison break.
Setting: Season 3, pre Sunday.

Disclaimer: No infringement intended. Stargate Atlantis is not mine. Though I have more respect for its characters. At least I seem to *care* more than they do.
Part 2 )

marguerite_krux: (Default)

Rating: hmm, not sure. What's above PG? There's like, torture and stuff...
Genre: Action/adventure/drama/team...
Setting: Season 3, pre First Strike. Pre Sunday as well, since I see no point in that ep.
Summary: Elizabeth is taken prisoner. She's in no mood to play damsel in distress.
Disclaimer: No infringement intended. Stargate Atlantis and its wonderful, though often underappreciated, characters are not mine. I could probably do a much better job managing it if I were in charge. But I'm not, just so we're all clear. XP

A/N: I believe that Elizabeth Weir is a strong, capable and resourceful woman. She just doesn’t get enough damn screen-time. So I wrote this fic, during the Celebrate Elizabeth month.
