elevates "monster of the week" to a whole new level by hardly ever making the monsters the bad guys.
This is what I'm talking about! Something I've realized lately, especially from Merlin, is how I really enjoy that kind of ambiguity. I mean, you have King Uther outlawing magic and executing people and he's this harsh dictator but then you see the other side to him where he's reacting out of a need to control everything so he can protect the people he cares about and keep the land a strong united whole...then you have magic users conspiring against him and on the one hand, it's treason and killing people is wrong, but otoh, they're being persecuted and their lives are at stake and they've gotta fight back instead of just waltzing up to the executioner's block and laying their neck down tamely for the blow. I can see both viewpoints and empathize with both of them, and that's really interesting for me.
So I really like the idea of sympathetic monsters, instead of one-note 'GRARR, HERE TO KILL YOU' monsters.
Haha, I love that 'I'm not so common' line and her attitude. It's so creepy and sexy at the same time. *flails* Very disturbing!
And thanks for the pics/quotes! Lol at the 'geeks and women' line, hee, DILEMMA. And gotta love a girl that uses 'feminine product's as a euphemism for dangerous weapons, ahaha.
silly of me to bother since you not only want to WATCH the show, you want to LIKE it, lol. which i really think you will.
No, no, not silly at all! For one thing, I love pimping to other people and I appreciate your enthusiasm and adoration for this show. And I was so looking forward to seeing it last weekend but my grandmother had visitors so I didn't end up going over [she's the one with the Foxtel subscription], and this was a really lovely way to tide me over til I can finally get to see it. Gracias!
can't have a kid finding out what grownups get up to behind closed doors *shakes head* which may be why my sister also ended up as a teenaged mother
I don't know how anyone who claims to be intelligent can believe that never talking to kids about sex will prevent them from experimenting or getting into trouble all on their own. The idea that discussing safe sex will MAKE THEM PROMISCUOUS is so stupid and frustrating, I want to slam their heads into a wall- repeatedly.
But it's great that things worked out for your sister and niece. I don't wanna make like I think she should never have been born or anything, it's fantastic when there is a happy ending. ^_^
