I know people think Joss Whedon is a god and I don't want to step on your toes, but the way he handles relationships...ARGH.
I completely understand. I do adore Joss Whedon beyond a doubt. I think he's incredibly talented and I'll watch anything he makes, but he's not infallible. He's made some dumbass mistakes and did some crappy stories. It happens. Just look at the Connor/Cordelia thing alone *shudder* And season 6 & 7 of BtVS were terrible. I'll always be the slightest bit bitter about the fact that we never had a B/A resolution, but I've made my peace with it after all these years. *sigh*
Compare that with Richard and Kahlan. They can't have sex without disastrous consequences but they're allowed to still be together in the same show!
*palmface* I actually just had someone rip into me today - in the LotS fandom no less! - for disagreeing with them about the similarities of the B/A relationship. (She was a C/A shipper so that pretty much says it all...) Basically, my point was that B/A weren't just not allowed to have sex, they weren't allowed to be HAPPY together (and then you add in all the other mitigating factors like immortality, etc.). Kahlan and Richard are only separated in the physical aspect. Is that difficult, hell yes! But it's not impossible. B/A had a hell of a lot more complexities in their relationship than that. They weren't only separated physically, Angel had to be on his guard emotionally ALL THE TIME. There was never any chance for them to relax and just BE together. So even though there's a ton of similarities between the two, I just don't agree when people say R/K are better because they're staying together when B/A couldn't "handle" it. There was a lot more to their problems than R/K have.
Really, I couldn't believe that girl got so upset with me though. Everyone is so laid back in LotS fandom...she came out with guns blazing... I didn't want to fight so I just waved the white flag. And what's even more ironic is that she had just made a post extolling the virtues of the LotS fandom for being wank-free...
clings to that* I'm scared, because Merlin used to be like that and then it became almost toxic
After the disaster that was season 2 of Merlin, everyone went batshit. The introduction of Arthur/Gwen as the OTP really just fucked everything over. I miss Arthur/Morgana so much...*pout* I'm really hoping that s3 will somehow redeem the show for what happened last season. That won't happen with LotS, the OTP is firmly established and everyone is just having fun with the chemistry pairings. It's great!!!
