'...everything I've done, I've done for you...I move the stars for no one...'
RL whinge:
I just want to get this off my chest.
I think I’m holding on out of habit.
Katherine and I have been friends for about eight years. I love her…and I think that’s the problem. She tends to be dismissive of the people that truly care about her; once, she was complaining about some friends that ditched her and I tried to make her feel better.
‘I love you.’
‘Yeah, but that’s unconditional love, so it doesn’t count.’
>_<
It’s like the people that are difficult, that are ‘fair-weather friends’, that cause drama and conflict, those are the people she wants to make the effort for- like, because they make it hard, it must be worthwhile or something. People that just love her, well, they’ll always be around so why bother with them, right? No, literally, that’s what she told me- ‘You’re Annie, I know you’ll always be there’. Way to make me feel appreciated.
So it’s been a couple months since we’ve seen each other. I still have the Christmas presents I bought her and Jacob [her brother] and after I text her to see if I should just wrap them for their birthdays instead, we finally get a day sorted to meet up and exchange gifts.
Now, it’s February, so giving gifts may seem redundant, but a month isn’t really that bad, considering her track record.
What bugs me more is that she promised she’d give me my birthday present with the Christmas one- she told me ages ago that she got me a ring for my birthday. I didn’t really want more jewelry, but she insisted that for my 21st, she had to get something special. So, okay, cool.
Except my birthday was in JULY. And now, nearly seven months later, still nothing.
It’s in her room, somewhere. [Her room used to look like a bomb went off in there, so the ‘lost in my bedroom’ excuse rings true] I’ve seen her a few times over the past few months, been at her place a couple of occasions, and each time, she’s acted chagrined and assured me she’ll look for it.
Now she’s moved out of home and in a weird power play with her parents, she can’t go back home for the next few months. [Even though they’re not at home for a few weeks at the moment because they’re off somewhere, for work, I think]
And I just think- fuck the ring. It was never about the ring. It was about me wanting to feel like I matter to her, that she’d go to the effort of cleaning up her goddamn room to find a present she apparently already bought for me. I mean, the girl moved out of house, she cleared out most of her belongings, but she can’t use that opportunity to locate the damn thing?
I just feel so small and insignificant. She’ll go all out for her other friends, spending ages personalizing little knick-knacks for them, getting lavish gifts, taking them to concerts and all that, but Annie…well, she’ll be fine, she can wait, it doesn’t matter.
Even when we finally hang out after months of nothing- well, the girl’s got a life, you know, heaps of friends, boyfriends/ex-boyfriends, parental drama- I get about 5% of her attention. We end up spending the morning going shopping for groceries, and most of that time, she spends ordering Chris around [he’s the ex, who she dumped for being ‘too needy and clingy’, yet she keeps him around to grab her groceries, take her clothes to and from the Laundromat, drive her to different places, etc].
Then at her place, she’s tidying up and showering and a million different things- she sits down for a few minutes before bouncing up to go take care of something. So while she’s off doing her own thing, Chris, Jacob and I bond over Merlin. Those guys are funny. [Gwen gives Merlin a flower: ‘she wants to have sex with him’/Gwen gives Morgana a bouquet: ‘they’re lesbian lovers!’]
But hey, leaving aside the lack of any significant interaction, at least I actually got my Christmas present. Dogma. A dvd she got off e-bay. Used, with a whole lot of scratches. I should feel happy, because I love that movie, but at the moment…my reaction’s more of a ‘huh, shitty copy of a dvd that was going for $15 at JB Hi-Fi. How cheap does she want to be?’
Thank god for LJ. I just don’t think I’m cut out for friends in real life.

Fandom yayness:
Surprisingly, I'm reading a Harry Potter fic that isn't SSHG. Quelle surprise! I just devoured 44 chapters of Arsinoe de Blassenville's The Best Revenge. It's a Snape-mentors-Harry story and by god, it sunk its claws into me and would not let me wrest free.
This fic? Is what I wish CANON was like. It's infinitely SUPERIOR to canon and not in a fanfic way, but literally like it could've been published. I would've paid money for this fic, seriously. It fixes everything that I had a problem with in the books and surpasses them in terms of making Harry more likable and sympathetic. The boy actually studies and tries to achieve things and learn spells! Who'da thunk it? Also, Harry genuinely cares about other people and tries to help- canon!Harry is stunningly lacking in empathy or compassion.
And there is character development! *gasps* The amazing thing is that Harry and Draco are friends in this fic but Draco isn't whitewashed til he's unrecognizable- given his upbringing, he has the same inevitable prejudices and flaws as in canon, but we get to see the positive effect Harry has on him in such a believable way. There is compromise and 'agreeing to disagree' instead of Draco miraculously converting to Muggle-lover in a heartbeat.
The best thing about the fic is the way that kids from all four Houses form friendships, and we have the core quartet that includes Draco and Hermione and Neville and makes it seem realistic that these very different kids would hang out with each other and actually grow to like each other over time, going from distant tolerance to real friendship.
And I won't babble about how much I love Snape in this. *bounces* Just take it as read, yo. ^_^
If anyone knows any epic-length mentor!Snape fics, rec me? Preferably gen!fic with no major ships [especially not involving Hermione, as I doubt there exists a perfect fic that has 'Severitus' plus SSHG]. I don't want to go looking because I'd have to wade through the Snarry fics and my brain does not need to deal with that.

You know how I love to compare and contrast Castle/Mentalist. We’ve had the female cop/male consultant post and the Patrick Jane/Kate Beckett post…now there’s a different theme.

Castle 2 x 15- Suicide Squeeze

Roy: Sure you got no cop in the Castle family tree?
Castle: No, us Castles are mostly con artists and circus folk.

Roy: No, I think there’s a little cop in there somewhere.

Beckett: Con artists and circus people, huh?
Castle: Yup, and mind readers.
Beckett: Really? So tell me what I’m thinking.

Castle: Ah! You’re thinking…you don’t care and you want me to stop talking.
Beckett: Ooh, that’s uncanny.
Mentalist:
The above conversation calls to mind interactions between Jane and Lisbon in no less than three different episodes!
CARNIVAL/CIRCUS [pot-ay-to/pot-ah-to]
1x 06- Red-handed
Jane: Everyone's palace is different. It has to be big and detailed and vivid. My palace is a mid-western carnival circuit I used to travel with my father.
Lisbon: Your people are carnie folk. You're finally starting to make sense to me.
MIND READING
1 x 09- Flame red

Jane: Now I have access to all your innermost thoughts.
Lisbon: Yeah, right.

Jane: I'm serious.
Lisbon: Okay. So what am I thinking right now?

Jane: You're thinking, I'm so glad Jane is joking around and he can't actually read my mind.
Lisbon: No. Well, actually, yes, but not for the reason you think.

Jane: What reason do I think?
Lisbon: Never you mind.
Rigsby: You're blushing.
Jane: You are blushing.

UNCANNY
1 x 18- Russet Potatoes
Lisbon: Is there a word for ‘uncanny yet irritating’?
Yes. I’m reaching particularly wildly with this. But come on, I’ve only heard the term ‘uncanny’ used twice on tv in the past year, so I choose to think I’m justified in linking them…it takes a talented mind to weave all these together, am I right? :P

There are a few moronic clichés that make me laugh myself silly or shriek til I’m hoarse every single time.
One of them is the ol’ ‘noble character throws themselves between another character and object of impending death’. Why why WHY, for the love of fandom, do these people hurl themselves through the air? How can they POSSIBLY calculate the correct angle and trajectory and factor in the wind and velocity of the weapon and all that within microseconds?
It just defies belief that this seemingly futile maneuver actually works, time and again! One of these days, I want to see someone pull that stunt, only to have miscalculated and wind up passing before or after the bullet/sword/alternative weapon and land roughly on the ground, winded, only to look up and find that not only did they make a fool of themselves, but the object of their concern got killed anyway. BECAUSE IT’S SO STUPID.
Why not at least launch yourself in the direction of the person you’re trying to protect? That way, even if you judged the distance and speed of the weapon incorrectly, your body will absorb the hit anyway- but in the best case scenario, you knock them out of the way and actually survive in the process!
Of course, the whole point of this maneuver is that the Character Dies Heroically. Which I get and if their number is up, that’s it. But couldn’t they die with a little dignity? Because that just makes me giggle and eyeroll like mad, it doesn’t make me respect them or mourn them to a greater degree.

LotS 2 x 10- Perdition.

I have major issues with the penultimate scene.
x:x:x:x:x

Firstly, evil!T’Pol’s arcs of electricity are spiking all over the place.

Even if someone bodily blocks her shot, surely she can shoot it over their head and down onto Kahlan? Or is the idea of a parabola beyond her intellect? As these caps show, Kahlan could’ve been hit anytime before Leo nobly sacrificed his life in a dumb-ass maneuver calculated to be stupidly heroic.

I like Leo, but that move of his? Only works because the Dramatic Laws of Wibbly Self-Sacrifice demand it, not because it could realistically succeed. I mean, the lightning has to GO OUT OF ITS WAY to fry him! First it's over his head, then beneath his body, and it needs to reposition itself in order to zap him, wtf?

Secondly, T’Pol has all that time between Leo’s crispy frying and Richard’s return to zap Kahlan.

Cara's grief-stricken, Kahlan's a sitting duck...
Why does she pause? Apart from dramatic effect, there is no reason she couldn’t have let loose a bolt right then and ended Kahlan.

Thirdly, she waits for Richard to enter stage left and take up position between her and the ladies- and she tries to zap him. Um, hello? The Keeper needs Richard alive to fulfil the prophecy! Killing KAHLAN helps your master, killing RICHARD foils his evil plan? Wtf, woman?
And then- this.

Leo dies for nothing? He could’ve used the Sword of Truth to fend off the lightning instead of being a human body shield? *facepalm*

I will admit, though, that this shot of the three ladies is made of epic win. Do we need Richard? Really? Can’t we keep Verna instead?
ALSO. Note the lack of woobie!Kahlan whimpering about the people that have died for her. Richard and a few other headdesk!inspiring heroes *cough* HARRYPOTTER* cough* could stand to learn a bit about poise and dignity from her. She doesn’t like it, but she’s a pragmatist and she deals with it minus the annoying angsting and temper tantrums. GOD, I wish this show was called Legend of the Mother Confessor instead.
x:x:x:x:x
Btw. You know what’s sad? I only just realized the pun from Heroes- Elle, who was able to wield electricity? Elle/electricity=Elle-ctricity? God, I can’t believe that only just hit me. *facepalm*

I recently discovered A Very Potter Musical. I'm not in love with it- I have issues with comedy, it can be mean and I'm too protective of my favorites to be able to cope- but it's a very clever parody and I do enjoy how it mocks canon and how ridiculous the plot is. The following clip contains my favorite song of the whole show: Granger Danger! It's so catchy and I've been singing it over and over...
'I'm falling in love, falling in love, falling in love, I could be falling in love, falling in love, falling in love with Hermione Granger...'
Draco and Ron are hysterical.
Ron: God, why don't you just give her a break for once, okay, Malfoy?
Draco: Why defending her, Weasley? Have a crush?
Ron: NO, no...why all the insults, Malfoy? Covering up a crush?
And the lyrics!
Ron: Strange how a dress can take a mess and make her nothing less than beautiful to me...
Draco: What? What the hell is this, you expect me to sing about her? Don't care about her. It's just a little make-up, Draco, wake up, you're mistaken...

Christmas is one thing, but my birthday? My 21st birthday?
Is she uncomfortable with showing affection or something?
No. She heaps love and affection on other people. Buying jewelry and taking them to concerts and all that.
And she's never been as touchy-feely with me as she is with the other girls. That's always bugged me, I don't know, maybe my posture screams stand-offishness. I need to be hugged but I can't initate it, y'know? So maybe people read that as I dislike any contact at all.
SNARRY? LMAO
What is Harry and Hermione, is that like... Harmione? Or Potmionie? Or Harherpotmionie?
Potterninnie?
*gigglefit* Actually, you're close with the first one- they're known as 'Harmony' shippers. Which is funny, considering the massive ship wars between Harmonians and- er, R/Hr shippers. I don't think there's a ship name for Ron and Hermione. *retches*
I'm going to go with magic.
Definitely TV/movie magic.
Oh, well, DUH, why didn't you say so sooner? It all makes sense to me now- it's not SUPPOSED to make sense, we just accept it 'coz the tv gods deemed it so!
Oh dude, you're so harsh.
Can you imagine the guilt that poor SOB will feel when he/she/it sees that the person they tried so valiantly to protect has died anyway? They'll probably kill themselves. And you will be responsible for the death of a character - I HOPE YOU'RE PROUD.
*snickers* Okay, so I wouldn't actually wish my main character dead, let alone a second out of the guilt of failing to save the former.. I just hate the whole 'NOOOOO' *massive leap of slo-mo lameness* cliche. It irritates me.
Yeah, that was a dumb move right there.
I don't watch this show but I'm just rolling with it.
Bwahaha, that's one of the things I love most about you. People whine to me, 'But I don't watch the show, I can't contribute anything' and look at you, chatting away regardless. More people should take you as their inspiration. *nodnod* :P
Should you decide to give it a go, start with the second season. It introduces Cara, who is just badass and awesome. I love the snarky bad girls. *glees* Kahlan's a doll, but she's rather saintly. Cara? Someone annoys her and she will stick them with her agiel [rods that deliver unimaginable pain with just a single touch]. Hehe!
Side note: I really would like a fantasy show/book that DOES NOT revolve around a prophecy. Wayyy too many of them do, so bloody annoying.
And goddamn Emma Watson is looking a little risque in that photo collage of yours there! tut tut tut
Oy! I didn't take the photo, I didn't pose her! Don't tut at me! 'tis a little raunchy, though. Not explicitly, but...it's suggestive. I wonder when it was taken?
I'm planning an Emma-centric picspam sometime soon. There are too many gorgeous shots for me to resist- none as risque as that one, though. *sighs* Well, better for her to play it safe than to pull a Britney. I'm liking having at least one decent, admirable young actress.

I think they call themselves the "Good" ship?

R/Hr just makes NO SENSE to me at all. It's a really unhealthy relationship, and I don't get how constantly putting each other down and having no interest in their preferred activities or appreciation for their character could lead to a rewarding romance. I mean, I'd rather Harry and Hermione be together in canon because at least I can see it happening!
no subject
Nopeeeeeeeee.
It's a really unhealthy relationship.
I absolutely agree. It was always extremely immature and never made sense to me. I wanted them together after reading the books and then the movies came out and Dan/Emma had TONS of chemistry which only fueled the fire. Plus, sometimes it's like the movies ship H/Hr too... They fit better! I see them having a mature, passionate, supportive, well-matched relationship. Fuck the Ginny crap. Ron can go marry Luna.
However! (Not that I'm judging!) Should you really be one to talk about an unhealthy relationship when... *points to header* Hm? hahaha ;)

I am so sure that the movies influenced the books- it wasn't til Emma and Rupert were acting like there were VIBES or TENSION or something that it was more fully explored in the books, which just ruined it for me for good.
[God, I hate HBP- the way Hermione's character devolves and becomes more immature than when they were First Years! *criz for Hermione's lost characterization*]
Though personally, I don't make as much a deal out of her not hugging him in CoS as shippers do- apparently not hugging him indicated repression of her true passionate feelings for him?
And god, I wanted to scrape my nails down their faces when they went on about how his jealousy was so romantic, him making her miserable and break down into tears and ruining her evening in GoF was a demonstration of their undeniable attraction and mutual affection for each other, WTF?!
As much as I dislike Harry [jeez, everyone was character assassinated by the end], at least he and Hermione had a strong relationship built on actually, gee, who'd'a thunk it, caring about each other and being confident enough to LET IT SHOW instead of presumably hiding it behind nasty taunts and endless petty sniping matches, ugh. Have you seen the vid, Love Song Requiem (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqVeHNf2ttQ)? It's really very lovely- not my ship, but so well put-together and emotional and I like it very much.

I lost a lot of respect for HP after the 6th book. It really ruined a lot imo. I was furious with how many things were just so so very wrong. It's a shame actually.
I'll check the video out! :)
And I just want you to know I was only kidding about the Hr/S thing. I wasn't trying to put it down. To each his own!!! But I will say the age factor is really the one thing squicks me though...
no subject
I blame Dumbledore for everything. I never got why he didn't just say 'you need to destroy these Horcruxes before going up against Voldemort' instead of being cryptic and utterly unhelpful. For that matter, why couldn't anyone else have gone and destroyed the Horcruxes, all they needed was Harry to DIE at the right moment, how much simpler if the Horcruxes had been taken out of the picture already?
But let's go with Harry who never learned to Occlude so how Voldemort didn't realize what he was up to and stop him, I don't know...
I was only kidding about the Hr/S thing. I wasn't trying to put it down. To each his own!!!
Ah. *considers the long rant in the comment posted below* Oops?
Oh, well, I had fun writing it. Nothing makes me happier than babbling about my ship and putting down R/Hr. GOOD my ass.
But I will say the age factor is really the one thing squicks me though...
Oh, yes. I get where you're coming from. Can't take offense at that because it's a common criticism and one that can't be dismissed. Hmm.
Well, I don't know about you in particular, but a lot of people go based on Alan Rickman who's 64. So that's a disturbingly large age difference.
[Even though I'm a massive AR fan and I'm in love with him so I DON'T CARE, lol]
But technically, Snape's about 19 years older than Hermione. That's doable for the fandom. *shrugs* Taking a leaf out of Shakespeare and Jane Austen, right? There were massive age differences in those days.
[But I have an older man/younger woman kink, so again, IDC]
Obviously you need to have a few...er, let's be charitable and call them 'personality quirks' to be into this ship, lol.
no subject
Lol! How could you? :P
Okay, I'm gonna get a little long-winded in defense of my ship and how it's NOTHING like R/Hr's utter fail.
My problem is that so many people accept Ron and Hermione's relationship as normal and disregard the sheer spite and malice underlying their interactions and find it all so very romantic. Because hurting each other's feelings all the time and physically attacking one another [WTF?] shows a stable, mature bond between them.
Snape and Hermione? Well, they didn't get along well at all at school and good writers acknowledge that [rather than reinterpret as with R/Hr to make it acceptable and shiny and awesome] and try to develop a more balanced and rewarding relationship. I enjoy that awkwardness and 'holy crap, he used to be my teacher, how the hell are we supposed to get along?' before it develops into something more. I adore the tension when they're forced together and trying to figure out their respective roles once it's not just student and teacher.
As I ranted about here (http://borg-princess.livejournal.com/74614.html#cutid5), what does it say when Snape picks on Hermione in class and Ron actually ENCOURAGES it? Wow. Canon love rocks! Not. I find it easier to forgive Snape's callous sarcasm considering the stress of the roles he's playing and the burden he's under and how much his entire life has SUCKED than Ron, who's got little reason to be such a prize prat when he has friends, a loving family and all these other advantages.
I like a bit of conflict with my ships, when it makes sense because of their respective natures and it's actually leading to character growth and shifting dynamics, not just pointless fighting and pettiness to draw out the suspense because JKR wanted to leave shippers hanging. Ron and Hermione were supposed to be good friends and acted like anything but, let alone love interests, so their bickering is just mean-spirited and I don't count that as meaningful conflict that represents anything other than two characters that don't like each other or have anything in common being stuck together. They never change, they don't compromise or learn to value each other's differences at all.
With Snape, it's a different story- like with House, these guys are damaged and it's about dealing with past wounds and trying to overcome that to forge a human connection that they can admit means something. [Did you see the asylum ep of season 6? I wanted to hug House so badly. *woes*]
I think Hermione is strong and determined enough that she'd look past his behavior and feel for him at all the injustice and suffering that he's been put through and want to make his life better. And I also think that she'd find him a very fascinating person to learn from and work with and- yeah, okay, I'll stop myself there, I don't want you to feel like I expect you to appreciate my ship. I know it's unconventional and difficult for some people to get. Heck, I was in your shoes-I was actually into H/Hr at first before I got sucked into this one, and it all started 'coz I went 'Hermione and SNAPE? Are you kidding me? What a ridiculous idea! I must read a fic or two and make fun of how lame the whole idea is...' Whoops.
Anyway, I just wanted to explain that when it's done well [and not depicting pedophilia or abuse of power and authority *shudders*], it's very enjoyable and happy-making. ^_^
PS. *smirks at your icon*

*JAW DROP*
YOUR 21ST BIRTHDAY? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Ooooooh... I would be sooooo mad... *is angry on your behalf*
No. She heaps love and affection on other people. Buying jewelry and taking them to concerts and all that.
*is still angry on your behalf*
Argh, I know it's hard, and it's one of those decisions you really wrestle over... but maybe the best thing would be to take a step back and let her come to you? Or are you already trying that?
I need to be hugged but I can't initate it, y'know? So maybe people read that as I dislike any contact at all.
I'm a bit like that as well, I'm not very touchy feely but my very close friends, I will hug.
they're known as 'Harmony' shippers.
Aw, I kinda like that. Harmony. That's nice.
I don't think there's a ship name for Ron and Hermione. *retches*
ROFL
But what about Ron/Harry? Rarry? Rorry? Haron? ROFL
It all makes sense to me now- it's not SUPPOSED to make sense, we just accept it 'coz the tv gods deemed it so!
EXACTLY!
I just hate the whole 'NOOOOO' *massive leap of slo-mo lameness* cliche. It irritates me.
You know, I don't actually see it a lot anymore unless it's a spoof of something else, and in that case it never fails to make me laugh. Maybe I'm not watching the right shows.
Bwahaha, that's one of the things I love most about you. People whine to me, 'But I don't watch the show, I can't contribute anything' and look at you, chatting away regardless.
I think it's because I find your posts endlessly entertaining that it doesn't matter what you're talking about, even if I have no frame of reference, I'll just sit here and read it all. :) It makes me smile. :)
It introduces Cara, who is just badass and awesome. I love the snarky bad girls. *glees*
You know, I had noticed that!
I don't think it's the kind of show I'd really be interested in, but if I ever see it out on DVD at the video store I might give it a whirl. I'd feel weird starting second season though, wouldn't I miss a whole set up or something?
And Cordelia gets killed in it! Nooooooo!
I really would like a fantasy show/book that DOES NOT revolve around a prophecy. Wayyy too many of them do, so bloody annoying.
Does LOTS have a prophecy in it? Probably. LOL
Oy! I didn't take the photo, I didn't pose her! Don't tut at me! 'tis a little raunchy, though. Not explicitly, but...it's suggestive. I wonder when it was taken?
All right, all right, I'll call off the police. I now believe it wasn't you who tarted up Emma Watson. It is a little raunchy though, I'll agree. She's showing off a bit of cleavage there, the wee young lass! (wee young lass teehee)
There are too many gorgeous shots for me to resist- none as risque as that one, though. *sighs*
She is really pretty, and yes, a decent young role model. The wee young lass! I said it again. :P

Sadly, no. And she got me to write in my birthday in her diary the other day- I didn't say it, but I was just thinking, 'Yeah, as if there's any point to that.' We went to see X-files for my birthday and all she had to do was shout the movie or buy me popcorn and I'd've been happy with that but no, she had to promise some fancy ring and then never follow through and make me feel completely worthless.
Ooooooh... I would be sooooo mad... *is angry on your behalf*
Thanks, hon. I just don't know how to feel myself. I know how I would feel if it happened to someone else, but personally...bleurgh.
You know, the thing is that I keep defending her to people and I try not to feel angry or hurt and I think it's because it feels like it reflects on me. Like, wow, how insignificant I am, that she can't be bothered to make an effort for me. And I don't want my family pitying me, so I try to focus on the good things she's done for me so that I can make myself believe that this friendship is still viable- and it's really not.
I'm not very touchy feely but my very close friends, I will hug.
Ugh, it doesn't come naturally to me. With my mother and grandmother, it's fine, but when it's other people...I have to rehearse it in my mind and plan how I'm going to go about it and then if anything slightly deviates from my mental framework for how it should go, I get all off-balance and don't know how to react and it's a mess, really! It shouldn't be this hard!
Aw, I kinda like that. Harmony. That's nice.
Isn't it, though? That's the most lovely ship name I've ever heard.
*sighs at own ships* Hotchily, I ask you. HOTCHILY. It makes me think of, like, tetchily or something. Not very elegant at all.
But what about Ron/Harry? Rarry? Rorry? Haron? ROFL
LMAO. The very idea of them two...*snickers* Haron, sounds like a version of aspirin or some sort of headache medication...how appropriate... >:D
The thing I've found in this fandom is that some ships are identified by house or character traits. For instance, on OWL, Hermione/Snape is Fire and Ice and on Petulant Poetess, they're Potions Under Duress. And there's a site for Harry and Snape called Potions and Snitches.
So Harry and Ron might be...Seeker and Keeper...Celeb and Underdog...Hero and Sidekick...?
I just hate the whole 'NOOOOO' *massive leap of slo-mo lameness* cliche. It irritates me.
You know, I don't actually see it a lot anymore unless it's a spoof of something else, and in that case it never fails to make me laugh.
Hmm. I know I've seen it way more than I'd like...can't quite remember WHERE, though. Oh, Inspector Lynley, that was one, for sure.
I think it's because I find your posts endlessly entertaining that it doesn't matter what you're talking about, even if I have no frame of reference, I'll just sit here and read it all. :) It makes me smile. :)
Aww, that's a wonderful compliment! *huggleglomps*
I love the snarky bad girls. *glees*
You know, I had noticed that!
Really? No, I mean, really? Most of the chicks in my shows are good girls. And not all that snarky, which is very sad. Snark seems to be reserved for male characters, mostly.

I don't blame you at all for being pissed off. She sounds like a "toxic" friend you know, the ones you read about in Cosmo and Cleo? ROFL Yes, my choice of reading material is questionable at times. Anyway, to my thinking, someone who makes you feel that bad about yourself doesn't deserve you as a friend.
Like, wow, how insignificant I am, that she can't be bothered to make an effort for me.
This is why you need to dump her. People who make you feel like that just aren't worth it.
But you know what? It doesn't matter what anyone tells you, because we're on the outside looking in - it's different when you do actually care about the person, and you think about all the good times, you know? I mean, I've been through sorta the same thing with friends of mine, and it's really, really fucking hard. I don't envy the position you're in, I just want you to get some happy is all. *huggles*
It shouldn't be this hard!
No it shouldn't! lol
*sighs at own ships* Hotchily, I ask you. HOTCHILY. It makes me think of, like, tetchily or something. Not very elegant at all.
Ugh, I know. At least it's not as bad as Suliet. *shudders* I refuse to call Sawyer & Juliet that. REFUSE TO.
And wow okay, the Harry Potter fans are a little more creative with the naming for ships than other fandoms. Interesting.

Definitely rent it!
Oh, here's a picspam on shallow reasons for watching the show.
http://xlivvielockex.livejournal.com/129037.html
I particularly like the 'Amoral Attractive Asshole' part. Heh.
And there was particularly good reasoning behind the 'best portrayal of a relationship' part. It's self-aggrandizement, for sure, but very good points- on tv today, not having sex is the death knell to any relationship, but Kahlan and Richard make it work. It's like Pushing Daisies in that respect, they can't have sex [but oh, they will find loopholes!] but they're nonetheless committed to each other in a strong, binding emotional relationship. They'd rather be together without the sex than with anyone else. I love that.
And Cordelia gets killed in it! Nooooooo!
I'M SORRYYYY. *comforts you* Yah, I'm stumped, there is no spinning this.
Does LOTS have a prophecy in it? Probably. LOL
Oh, yes. I just hate how people proceed on the assumption that a prophecy will come true and there's no point trying to circumvent it.
[I don't know if you ever saw Point Pleasant, it was a cool premise, the Devil's Daughter let loose on Earth and the idea was that he didn't even need to meddle, dealing with humans would be enough to drive her crazy and unleash destruction upon them all. And he was right- she made friends, had a boyfriend, then when they found out about her creepy powers- which could be used for GOOD as well as evil- her adoptive family turned against her and decided she had to be put down! Like, wouldn't you want to cultivate her as an ally? Get her to protect you against other dark forces? Why the hell are they making an enemy out of someone that was part of the family!]
So the allies try to kill Richard [I don't blame them] and the enemies protect him [except for T'Pol in that moment of epic WTF!ery] because the prophecy is the gospel truth and why act as if the future's malleable when it's clearly set in stone? Argh, so infuriating.
I now believe it wasn't you who tarted up Emma Watson. It is a little raunchy though, I'll agree. She's showing off a bit of cleavage there, the wee young lass! (wee young lass teehee)
I hear that last part in a fake Scottish accent, just so you know. A terrible attempt at a Scottish accent, anyway. :P
And well, if that's the worst it gets, I'll count my blessings. She ain't doing a Miley Cyrus by posing in bedsheets [although I never thought that deserved all the vitriol and criticism that got heaped on her head] and she ain't no Britney or Amy Winehouse, so the kid's doing all right.
a decent young role model.
I like that she's a good role model without up and announcing 'I AM A GOOD ROLE MODEL'. I don't believe all celebs need to be role models [it puzzles me that people have higher expectations of them than other people- like with Tiger Woods, stfu, yes, he's a scumbag but no average cheating manwhore would get raked over the coals like him and berated for influencing impressionable young cheaters-in-the-making, so stop acting like he's single-handedly responsible for the breakdown of the marital institution in our society] but when there's someone decent like her, it makes me feel a little more cheerful about our society.
Then I watch Next Top Model or some other show and want to bash the contestants over the head for saying rubbish like 'I want to inspire people...I want to be a role model...' FFS, people CHOOSE whether they find you inspirational or not, it sounds so pretentious saying it like that's the main thing they're wanting to achieve, ugh. Get real, you're there for the fame and fortune.
PS. I like your icon! What's the story behind it?
no subject
And why can't they have sex exactly? *has missed an important plot point*
I know what you mean - it's like everything revolves around the sexual tension and inevitable characters-falling-into-bed-together plot point (not that it's always a bad thing because sometimes it makes me happy) - and you mentioned Pushing Daisies, and that's one of the things I really like about Ned and Chuck's relationship - they don't need it, they're happy just being together. :)
They'd rather be together without the sex than with anyone else. I love that.
I love that too. :)
I don't know if you ever saw Point Pleasant,
Nope! lol
Like, wouldn't you want to cultivate her as an ally? Get her to protect you against other dark forces? Why the hell are they making an enemy out of someone that was part of the family!
Well that sounds a little fucked up right there.
I hear that last part in a fake Scottish accent, just so you know. A terrible attempt at a Scottish accent, anyway. :P
Oi! I'll have you know my Scottish is coming along nicely, thanks!
I don't believe all celebs need to be role models [it puzzles me that people have higher expectations of them than other people- like with Tiger Woods
Oh, EXACTLY. Who cares! He's a man who cheated on his wife. Granted, it was with a shit tonne of other women (poor form, Tiger), but he's human. Humans make mistakes, even celebrities. *eye roll*
but no average cheating manwhore would get raked over the coals like him and berated for influencing impressionable young cheaters-in-the-making, so stop acting like he's single-handedly responsible for the breakdown of the marital institution in our society
ROFL
My icon - was it the 'maybe I could just kill myself?" one? It's from a TV show called The IT Crowd - don't know if you've ever seen it. It's this quirky little British comedy and it is absolutely hysterical. Um... *tries to find a clip*
