Day 3 of Happy Meme

For today’s featured character…another redhead, lol. I have a theme going here.

Kathryn Janeway.

I credit her with expanding my imagination and creativity. I wrote hundreds of Voyager fics while motivated by Janeway as my muse. All right, about 80% of them were rubbish, and thankfully were never posted to any public site, but I learnt how to develop stories and characters, how to write action and dialogue, and my mind became a rich and fertile playground. I miss those days when I had four or five fics growing steadily in my head all at the same time. There was a lot of daydreaming happening in class all right, lol.

But while she fed my love for fanfiction- writing and reading- it also had a positive effect on my school work because my essays were consistently …well, brilliant, I must say. My English teachers loved me, and those reading my essays in other classes were never bored, I can guarantee that, heh.

I have good memories of bonding with Jacob over Voyager.  We hung out in the math room at recess and lunchtime for a year. Mostly to gossip about Voyager [and X-files] although we did get some work done in between our flailing. So Janeway was good for my math as well! On the rare occasions we get together, Jacob will still tease me about Janeway flouncing off to her Ready Room hundreds of times, and about her deleting Michael's wife in that awful holographic  fiasco. I could murder that plot. Gah! Otoh, he will also fix me, 'Coffee, black', so all is forgiven, lol. I do enjoy picking up mannerisms from my favorite characters, and Janeway was the easiest in that regard, with her coffee fixation. I never used to drink it much before I  got hooked on Voyager, now I drink it at least once or twice a day!

--------------------------

Real life, non-fandom things that I am happy about...finally sending my cards, lol. I can't believe how much I procrastinated and stressed when I only have TWO to send.  *facepalm* I have the organizational skills of an unborn baby

I am also thankful for my mother.  We have our rough patches, she gets pissy and cold and non-communicative, I get sulky and moody and rebellious, but she is truly awesome. Even if she has a regrettable lack of interest in tv shows. [Both my parents  don't care about tv! Where did I get my obsessive fangirl genes from?]

Yesterday, she picked me up  a few meters down the street from Ma's door, and I was all grouchy and hot and tired and miffed that she hadn't been around to give me a lift earlier. Illogical, undeserved and...I'd like to say it was OOC, but...well, everyone has off days, right?

Anyway, instead of taking offense at my  bad temper, she went and bought me McDonald's because she knew I hadn't eaten all day. After visiting Ma, we went to town and browsed around the different stores, checked out BORDERS, which is cool and another thing I'm happy about. Its romance section is epic. And it was just fun and easy to hang out with her. We shopped, chatted, giggled like schoolgirls, had coffee and had a really good time. Way better than the Christmas party I was invited to but blew off because of my social anxiety and neurotic fear of group gatherings. [I ran into three people I knew in town and it was so nerve-wracking trying to maintain a conversation with them. *headdesk* Social skillz = FAIL]

Then today, she turned up at the post office when she knew was there, mailing my cards. I didn't have ID so it was lucky she was around and signed the form that said I wasn't sending knives or drugs or weapons of mass destruction to [livejournal.com profile] justhere1971 , lol. [Who admits to it anyway?] Which is lucky for me in the event that I broke a law or something, because her signature's on the document, heh. :P

Your mom is absolutely awesome! I swear she looks like your sis, rather than Mom. What a perfect day.

I KNOW, RITE?! When we're in town, the sales people always go, 'hey, girls,' and refer to us as friends, lol. Okay, maybe they're trying to flatter us and make us want to buy more stuff from them- my cynical mind, heh- but few people ever guess she's my mother.

And yes, it was a perfect day. :D Thanks for tagging me, btw, I usually focus on the things that are getting me down in life, and it was good to prompt me to think about the things that I'm grateful for instead.

Any time! I think I learn more about people from memes than anything else.
