'Color me blue, I'm lost in you, don't know why I'm still waiting...'

[Poll #1457732][Poll #1457732]
---

Last time I drew a comparison between Sanctuary’s John Druitt and our politician Peter Garrett. [Eerie, no?]

Now I bring your attention to Will Zimmerman. As soon as I saw him, I was all over the obvious Daniel Jackson comparison.

Apparently that’s why he ditched the glasses, lol.
But as Netty and I were doing our marathon, she turns to me and goes, ‘Hey, he looks like Harry Potter’ just as I was turning to her to say the same! [Great minds, etc. etc.] REALLY. Lookit.

I admit, there's little more than 'white male, brown hair, glasses' to this comparison. *shrugs* But still!

The  'Golden Trio'. Lol.

Mentor/student relationship.

Dumbledore and Harry ain't got nothing on Will and Helen's chemistry. :D

Shades of Dumbledore’s relationship with Harry.

After the death of his parents, Dumbledore left Harry with his relatives and kept him away from the world of magic, leaving him ignorant, if not exactly blissful. After his mother's death, Magnus also chose to keep him unaware of the fact that monsters- excuse me, Abnormals exist in our world, leaving him blissfully ignorant, suppressing all his traumatic memories.

Both Dumbledore and Magnus are expert at manipulating the people around them, even if they are benevolent, they're rather ruthless about the way they pull the strings. They've learned all too well how to provoke the reactions they want from those around them, what with being over a century old.

Although Dumbledore looks his age, while Helen is absolutely gorgeous. :D

And this, THIS!

Will: You’ve withheld things from me. You were there, weren’t you?

Helen: She was an extraordinarily brave woman. She died protecting you from that creature.

Will: You could have stopped it, done something.

Magnus: We tried, Will. I swear to you, we tried. It all happened so quickly we barely had time to rescue you

Firstly, note the same petulance in both Harry and Will- always blaming other people for the death of their loved ones. So irrational, tsk, tsk. Thankfully, it's just a temporary lapse in Will, while I've given up Harry as a lost cause, the self-centered prat.

Secondly- come on, the self-sacrificing mother, who dies to protect her son from evil monsters?

Harry and Will both get to see their mothers- unfortunately for Will, it's just a hallucination trying to lure him to his death, but Harry gets some closure with seeing his mother's spirit as she once again protects him from the Dak Lord. [Useless brat]

Their special destiny.

Of course Harry was always meant to grow into his heritage of 'Boy-Who-Lived', to be groomed to take down the Dark Lord. [Which meant
half-assing a plan, breaking all sorts of rules, getting into trouble, endangering others and waiting for the adults to come sacrifice themselves and rescue the Trio's butts, then whinging about how it wasn't his fault because nobody treated him like an adult. *headdeskfloorwall*]

Magnus: I’ve known this was your destiny since you first came to my attention.

Will: Yeah, since you knocked me down in an alley.

Magnus:
Since you were eight years old, actually...when you told the world a monster killed your mother.

And finally? Later on in the marathon, Will actually puts on a British accent!
‘Isn’t rather odd sort of your stock in trade?'
That totally made us giggle even harder, it was like a special shout-out to us, lol.

You all need to appreciate how awesome Netty is. Seriously, best friend in RL, and the fact that she’s family is a bonus.

[Druitt appears onscreen, all menacing and mysterious-like]

Netty: Who’s that? The science tech guy?
Me: Uh…no. What do you think when they talk about prostitutes being killed?
Netty: *confuzzled*
Me: Historical context, dead hookers, come on…
Netty: Oh, oh, Marguerite and Roxton, with the two guys that were killing together… Jack the Ripper!

Lol. The woman drops TLW references into conversation. My love for her, it is infinite. :D

---

Vidspam.
Three minutes in, Will does a brief impression of Helen's British accent. But it's well worth watching the whole thing- if you're a fan, it'll remind you of some of the best moments of hilarity. If you're not, well, off with you, become addicted already! :P

You have no idea how good it feels to know that I'm understand. Because this? who in their right mind would knowingly set themselves up for a situation where they knew they were only gonna end up being hurt. Exactly. I can deal with it as long as I'm not beating up on myself for thinking I'm in the wrong, y'know? Because that's just the straw breaking the camel's back and all.

I think there should be fic where Emily steals and/or mutilates all those icky ties and forces him to get new ones, or better yet, they mysteriously vanish, only to be replaced by newer, cooler ones. And then Hotch has to profile the team to figure out who it was.

ROTFLMAO. DUDE. That's just BLOODY BRILLIANT. *huge smirk* Omg, poor Hotch. Heeeeee. ^_^

I never realized how much he looks like Harry Potter, you're right!

*preens* I am so proud of myself for this epiphany, it's influenced a lot of people, hehe. Yay me! Thank goodness Will ditches the glasses, though- Daniel 2.0 I can take, but Harry Potter? *shudders*

Did she seriously just call Helen Dumbledore? *dies giggling and reads on*

I DID, I DID.
I meant more in the sense that they're both mentors taking the hapless innocents under their wing and then I realized that they shared certain personality traits as well.
Though hopefully Helen will never suffer the character assassination that had me loathing Dumbledore in the end.

Okay here's the thing, this is where I can totally understand what you were saying about Merlin, because I totally ship them. I cannot help it. And okay fine, it's ten kinds of wrong and she knew him when he was a little kid and watched him grow up- I don't care. XD

*punches fist in the air* HA. At last! I have won you over to my side! *bounces gleefully* [Does this mean you accept my Hermione/Snape proclivities as well? >:P]

But...my sense of victory aside, honesty compels me to point out to you that Helen and Will were hardly in constant daily contact with each other. She kept tabs on him, but they weren't interacting as adult and child on a regular basis. Whereas Morgana grew up in Uther's court. And Snape taught Hermione. *sighs* What's with me and impossible ships?

For Sanctuary, I kinda like Henry/Ashley. How old is he? Was he around when she was growing up? I'm disappointed in myself for all this questionable ships, if so.

OMG. OMG OMG. I just imdb'd and wiki'd Ryan Robbins to find out how old he was [no luck] and found out he was Ladon Radim. Holy crap! What kind of SGA fan am I for missing this? *runs to dig out Genii eps*

Btw, bb, any idea where I can find the webisodes? I was watching a few vids on youtube that show scenes DEFINITELY not from the series and look cool as! You'd think this would be on the special features on the dvd, but nooo.

[identity profile] odakota-rose.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
I definitely don't think you're in the wrong for that, I simply couldn't. *hugs tight*

ROTFLMAO. DUDE. That's just BLOODY BRILLIANT. *huge smirk*

*grin* Thank you. Thank you. XD

Daniel 2.0 I can take, but Harry Potter? *shudders*

Okay, on this point, I've been reading H/Hr fic a lot lately, I found this epic novel length one on Friday and I've been reading nonstop, It's like 317,000 words or something. Anyway, I'm almost done with it, but I have these moments every now and then when he just bugs me with his emo whinyness. Thankfully the fic I'm reading is fairly good on that front, but still.

Though hopefully Helen will never suffer the character assassination that had me loathing Dumbledore in the end.

Okay, spoil me please, what happened? And seriously, I'm gonna die laughing now thinking of Helen as Dumbledore.

*punches fist in the air* HA. At last! I have won you over to my side! *bounces gleefully* [Does this mean you accept my Hermione/Snape proclivities as well? >:P]

-pokes- Just so you know, I'm always on your side. :P And in any case, of course I accept them. I don't ship them myself, but I've always been pretty open about shipping. As long as it's not Sheyla. I admit it, that's the one ship I absolutely cannot stand at all. Other than that, other ships don't bug me. I have my ships, everybody else has theirs, we all having fun and it's cool.

But...my sense of victory aside, honesty compels me to point out to you that Helen and Will were hardly in constant daily contact with each other.

Yep, and that's another valid reason for why it doesn't bother me as much as one might think. I mean still, you have a bit of that student/teacher thing going on, but not like some ships...

Oh! Henry/Ashley! *flail* ♥
There's a comm for them, it's been pretty inactive lately, but Lanna and a couple other people started writing fic for those two sometime around the Nubbins episode, and they've wrote some really awesome stuff ^^ There's actually a comm, [livejournal.com profile] ashley_henry. :D

I know! I felt terrible for not recognizing that right away the first time I saw the show, but I totally didn't notice it until I paid attention to the credits a little later. And then I saw one of the Ladon eps of SGA and there was epic!facepalming because it's so frakkin' obvious when you think about it xD

*sads* I'd had a link to the webisodes once before, but I lost it and never did get around to doing the requisite googling to find it out again.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-09-22 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, spoil me please, what happened?

Ohhh, boy. Right then. So, Dumbledore's been this kindly, gentle old man for the first few books, the grandfatherly figure one relies on for sage advice and comfort, right? And then all of a sudden, JKR rips away that illusion and reveals the ruthless, manipulative bastard within.

See, the thing is, I can understand characters being awful and doing terrible things for the greater good- what I can't stand is when they maintain the appearance of being good and kind when they're totally not. Like, Snape comes off as the villain of the series and he ends up being the biggest hero, whereas characters like Harry and Dumbledore are supposed to be the idols, the heroes, and they don't even act like that!

Okay, but that doesn't explain why I'm so pissed with Dumbledore. See, Draco's initiated into the Death Eater Association of Epic Doom and Perversion. His first task to prove his allegiance is to kill Dumbledore. So far, so screwed, yeah?

Except Dumbledore's dying from a stupid, stupid move- he was supposed to get rid of a Horcrux, one of the pieces of the Dark Lord's soul, except his selfish desire caused him to royally frak up by trying to use the Resurrection stone to communicate with his dead family and ended up triggering a curse and condemning himself to death for NO REASON AT ALL. It's only due to Snape's actions that he manages to live out the year.

But for some reason, he decides that Draco's mental wellbeing is so supremely important that he cannot be allowed to commit murder. 'coz it'll sunder his soul or some crap. Okay, he's dying anyway, what does it matter, you'd think. But no, PROTECT DRACO AT ALL COSTS. Do not let him SULLY HIS SOUL by wilfully CHOOSING TO KILL.

DD: All the same, try [Snape to help Draco]. Ultimately, of course, there is only one thing to be done if we are to save him from LV's wrath.

SS: Are you intending to let him kill you?

DD: Certainly not. YOU must kill me.

SS: [after a long pause] Would you like me to do it now?

DD: Oh, not quite yet. I daresay the moment will present itself in due course. Given what has happened tonight, we can be sure that it will happen within a year.

SS: If you do not mind dying, why not let Draco do it?

DD: That boy's soul is not yet damaged. I would not have it ripped apart on my account.

SS: And my soul, DD. Mine?

DD: You alone know whether it will harm your soul to help an old man avoid pain and humiliation. I ask this one great favor of you,

BASTARD. FUCKING BASTARD.
How many times does he have to rub in the misdeeds of Snape's past?

I don't care about the words he's using, it's never about the words. They're just to construct the kind grandfatherly image of his.

Between the lines? He's basically saying, 'It doesn't matter how many years you've devoted your life to redeeming yourself, all that you've suffered, all the good you've done, the lives you've saved, you can NEVER be redeemed because of that one mistake in your past. Even a weak, spineless coward like Draco, who'd go over to the dark side and commit murder, is better than you. There is no hope for you.'

The worst thing is that the one pro of the situation was to let the power of the Elder Wand [an utterly craptastic concept] die with Dumbledore, except bloody Malfoy interferes so he ends up being the Master of the Elder Wand. Except the Dark Lord thinks it's Snape and kills him. FOR NO FRAKKING REASON, since it was DRACO, and then Harry disarms him and becomes the new master and happily ever after for him and omg, SO MUCH HATE. Snape didn't even get to proclaim his true loyalty and stand against his evil master in battle, no going out in a blaze of glory, just Voldemort going, 'Your services are no longer required. You are hereby terminated. Later' and GAH. *head!splodes*

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-09-22 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
That Elder Wand thing shits me. I mean, the only way its power can be transferred is for the master to be killed- except Harry need only DISARM Draco to become the new Master, wtf? LAME AS. How utterly convenient. So we get the simpering, whimpering waste of oxygen but lose Snape, the true hero of the series?! In what world is that FAIR? DAMN YOU, JKR. He doesn't even get to bow out with dignity- now, I'm not saying I'd be happy seeing him dead, but at least if he got his moment in the spotlight, but noooo. I think JKR hates how popular he became and chose the most insulting, degrading way to ditch him. Ugh.

Back on topic, though. Another way Dumbledore's the biggest bastard ever? Not only does he force Snape to kill him, which I can barely, just barely understand if not forgive, but he doesn't leave any evidence behind to clear Snape's name, he doesn't enlist a Secret Keeper or nothing, no hidden messages or such that I'm aware of- he hangs him out to dry. Best case scenario, Snape survives the damn war, after giving up two decades of his life to suffer and endure torture and misery, and then ends up in Azkaban for 'murdering' Dumbledore. You can tell how much he cares about Snape, huh? Even bloody DRACO is more important to him than ensuring that Snape would be safe if he survived. God, that asshole.

Speaking of which. Harry is a dumbass. I'm sorry, hon, I know you like him, but he flings spell after spell at Snape, all of which are deflected, and he's all, 'Fight back, you coward!' Uh, brainless one, if he's fending off your pitiful attacks like nothing, don't you think he could've killed you at any point without your oh-so-kind granting of permission?

Image

See how easily Snape stands there and nullifies his curses? He's the most powerful wizard around, he could've dispatched Harry with no more effort than swatting a fly and yet HARRY is the frakking savior of the world, ARGH.

ETA: I just came across another darker interpretation of what happened- in that Dumbledore wanted mastery of the wand to pass to Harry and he got Snape to kill him so that Harry would have no hesitation in killing Snape later on to obtain mastery. Dark, but possible. It would be just like him. And it would explain why he didn't bother leaving any evidence or pensieve accounts to support Snape, because he didn't expect him to live, as either Harry or Voldemort would've killed him.

I've got to delete my old H/Hr fics. *sighs* I had a whole bunch of fics with them and also with Buffy x-overs that I gotta delete now 'coz I can't multi-ship anymore.

The epic novel!fic- it doesn't have summer in its title, perchance? I was reading this encyclopedia-length fic in which Harry and Hermione spend the summer together and end up going to Buckingham Palace, lol, before I got sidetracked and jumped ships.

I have these moments every now and then when he just bugs me with his emo whinyness.

*nodnod* That's precisely what turned me off him. It's always about his angst and him pouting that nobody trusts him when DUH, he hasn't given them any reason to trust him to behave like an adult. I mean, FFS, Dumbledore puts him in a body-bind under a cloak during the battle because he doesn't think Harry can fend for himself! He treats him like a child because the boy can't step up to the plate! And the first thing he does when he's freed is try to take Snape on, ensuring certain death and the fall of the wizarding world to Voldemort, had Snape in actual fact been a Death Eater. Dumbass.

I've always been pretty open about shipping. As long as it's not Sheyla. I admit it, that's the one ship I absolutely cannot stand at all. Other than that, other ships don't bug me. I have my ships, everybody else has theirs, we all having fun and it's cool.

Firstly, yay for the shipping!tolerance, life would be so much easier in fandom if people could just get along and accept each other. *eyeroll* Sheyla, though, I'm irrationally prejudiced against it, I can't bring myself to be fair after the war that raged between their camp and ours.

I mean still, you have a bit of that student/teacher thing going on, but not like some ships...

*snorts* Point taken! *hands up in surrender*
Also, he's fully an adult. Dude, he's 33! Totally doesn't look it!
There's none of this sophistry about being 'of age' and using the more of the time- they married young back in the period of Camelot, like, 15 or 16- or the Time Turner to age Hermione another year to make it more palatable, lol.

Omg, a comm?! *runs off to find it* I can't wait for the new season, in a few weeks, I think- hopefully it'll spark up a whole round of new fic.

Well, I don't think the Ladon/Henry thing was THAT obvious. They play totally different characters- scheming military dude, laid-back easy-going computer genius. *shrugs* Whatever happened to Ladon, anyhow? The Genii decided to become enemies again, as per the post-s3 writing crapitude, so either he flipped or was replaced. Hmph.

Are the webisodes worth tracking down? Were they that different from the final eps on the dvds? *iz curious*
