Electric Feel! *dances* I luffs it so. And the music video is just trippy, lol.

---

The dinner on Saturday...rollercoaster ride before we ever even left; the parents had a huge argument and at one stage we weren't going to attend any more but they managed to patch things up and we made it after all. I was kinda disappointed- I had two episodes each of Mentalist and CM, so I was all ready for a cosy night in. Alas...

Dinner was crazy. Never go out with a bunch of Samoans, they are such a rowdy bunch. Old people are supposed to be sedate and mature, right? But they were singing at deafening levels, they pushed aside the furniture for some traditional dancing- and one lady got up on her chair to do a bit of a hula, omg- they were accidentally breaking glasses...yeah. I lost my voice because it was so hard to converse with my cousins over the adults' ruckus. *eyeroll* I thought it was funny that the restaurant people closed the door to our room, I guess because we were disturbing the other patrons, lol.

The WTF moment of the evening- when 'Aunty Flo' [she's like, my grandmother's cousin or something, I have no idea] asked us girls if we'd read Twilight because people at work were recommending it. *horror* Apparently it's like LORD OF THE RINGS, they said to her. *dies* I- I don't even know how to respond to that level of self-delusion.

Let's move on to fantasy of actual worth. I said a while back that Jim Butcher's Codex Alera is the best fantasy series ever. I stand by that, though I must split hairs in order to declare that in my not-so-humble opinion, Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels books are the most awesome urban fantasy books ever. I just finished Magic Strikes and am fighting the urge to cry at the devastating news that the next book won't be out til NEXT YEAR. *sobs*

But look! Pretty cover art is pretty! :D

As if you don't want to read that. Come on, badass chick with a sword? A fierce looking lion? [Although I'm overcome with the inappropriate urge to coo and stroke it, bury my face in its mane and take rides on its back like it's Aslan and won't rip my face off for the insult]

Go ooon. Read this excerpt from the first book, Magic Bites and tell me that doesn't capture your imagination. Borrow it from the library or just buy it, I promise you will not be disappointed. Heck, I'll even buy it from you if for some unfathomable reason, it's not to your liking. Just read it because it is the most frakking fantastic thing I've read in years. *glees* We have magic and technology co-existing in a world with shapeshifters of all varieties and a fascinating and really original spin on the whole vampire concept, starring a witty, kick-ass heroine who uses brains and brawn to overcome all obstacles, with a quip at the ready, no matter the situation. I love her more than I've loved anyone in a book before. *worships*

Comment to this entry and I'll pick 3 of your fandoms.
You must then update your journal and answer the following questions..

01. What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03. Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05. Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

[profile] sofie_sanctuary gave me Battlestar Galactica, The Lost World and Stargate Atlantis.

*BSG

1. I was looking for a new sci-fi series after the Stargate shows finished or were winding down. I caught an episode, Final Cut, on foxtel and flailed like a flaily thing with bonus flail when I recognized LUCY LAWLESS. That intrigued me, but I wasn't hooked on it just yet...as with many things, I blame [livejournal.com profile] sapphs for this addiction. After my interest was piqued by cylon!Xena, she devoted a post to squeeing over her new BSG moodtheme and mentioned a kiss between Adama and Roslin, describing it with such glee and delight that I became an instant shipper and went out and bought the mini-series and the second season the following week. *nodnod* I fall hard and fast, yo.

2. I'll always love BSG but since it ended, I haven't really been participating in the fandom so much. It's just too painful.

3. I love the entire miniseries because Laura was a pretty powerful character there. She was set up as someone whose opinions mattered to others, who could really influence things and shape matters to her own liking. The rest of the series spent its time tearing her down, trying to break her heart and destroy her soul over and over, which I really got quite depressed about. But the shippy A/R eps were absolutely wonderful- I adore the Pegasus/Resurrection Ship Pts 1 and 2 arc. Just reading about their kiss made me a fan, so you can imagine how much I squeed over actually seeing it. Unfinished Business, of course- Bill and Laura drinking alcohol and smoking weed,  lying under the stars together...*melts* And definitely The Hub.

4. Not so much anymore. If someone else posts about it, I'd probably respond but I can't do it myself.

5. Definitely! I was just trying to convince illicit_designs to get into this show!

*TLW

1. [livejournal.com profile] sapphs to blame again! She was squeeing about them quite a lot, posted the prospective season 4 pdf which intrigued me. I'm a die-hard fan of epic ships and after hearing out Marguerite and Roxton were always destined to be together, I instantly succumbed and decided to buy all three seasons at once. I do like to recklessly dive in, lol.

2. NEVER LEAVING TLW BEHIND. I firmly believe I'll be just as much in love with it in ten years time as I am now. I'm a TLW fan for life, okay?

3. So many favorite eps! [My verdicts on season 1 here and season 2 here]

Season 1- Paradise Found [the fruit-inspired kiss!], Prophecy [the self-sacrifice!], Cave of Fear [the comfort!]
Season 2- The Outlaw [the jail scene kisses!], A Man of Vision [the late night heart-to-hearts!]  Divine Right [Marguerite's machinations to take advantage of Roxton's newfound royalty!]
Season 3- The Secret [the angst, oy] , Trapped [yet more angst but also a heckload of romance], An Eye for An Eye [dark!Roxton kidnapping Marguerite, wheeee!].

Also, The Elixer for the pure brilliance and awesome of M and R taking a mud bath together and then streaking through the jungle after their clothes are stolen! LMAO! ^_^

4. Still trying to finish my fic, Where I Follow. *guilty face* And I've made a few fanvids as well. I'd spend all day on these things if I could, it's so addictive!

5. OMGYES! I try to convert everyone I meet. odakota_rose obliged, beyond all expectations. *huggleglomps* And my darling cousin, Netty, sits through marathons with me. As does her boyfriend, on occasion. I totally want her to marry him so we can keep him in the family forever because watching TLW with us and not mocking it but accepting its quirks and enjoying it? What a guy. :D

*SGA

1. I was a fan of SG-1, so naturally I tuned into the spin-off.

2. I'm not leaving SGA behind. I still read a lot of fic and squee over Sparky!

3. The Long Goodbye, Conversion, The Real World...

4. I've written fics and I have a few I want to finish but god knows if that'll ever happen. I'm much more content to just read other people's fics, lol. I've also made fanvids but I think my creative endeavors are in the past, I'm just gonna coast through and enjoy other fans' efforts.

5. Absolutely- but I'm warning them against the last two seasons.

Having mentioned Twilight...I give you the puppet saga!

[identity profile] sunkrux.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Say it with me....

REAL
VAMPIRES
DO
NOT
SPARKLE!!

That vid was just as awful as the actual movie...only with puppets. I think I'll be having nightmares tonight. Better watch some more Farscape to counter act that. ;)

eh, hit me with the meme thing...and I already know at least ONE of the shows/fandoms you'll ask me about. ;-b

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
THEY DON'T?! :O BUT SMEYER TOLD ME SO! MY LIFE, IT IS RUINED. OH, CRUEL WORLD...

LMAO. Real vampires. Not of the fake variety, the sissy sparkly ones. But they're so much prettier than the 'real' vampires, the ones that get all brow-ridge-y and snarly and ugly, like in Buffy. Speaking of which, I love that there's anti-Twilight merchandise, like, this t-shirt with the caption, 'And then Buffy staked Edward. The End'. Heh.

Ah, but the vid KNEW it was awful, it was deliberately pointing out how awful the plot is! The movie is just firmly assured of its own awesome.
*headdesk* I'm sorry, I didn't meant to give you nightmares! Hopefully Farscape can ward them off!

'k, the three I pick are...Leverage, Pushing Daisies and [no surprises here] TLW! I thought about picking something else just to shock you but I figured why cut off my nose to spite my face. :P

[identity profile] sunkrux.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Don't make me sick Angel or Mick St. John on you. They're so much better looking than those sissy sparkly "vampires". *rolleyes*

Hmmm, nice choices there. ;)

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Please, I beg you, sic them on me. I'd enjoy that. :P

But oh, damn, yes, I need to clarify that- I just meant that it's common for vampires to get ugly lookin' when they go into 'vampire mode'. Sorry, Angel, that includes you.

I like Mick's vampire-ness the best, I think; he's basically his own attractive self, just with cloudy eyes, minus the lame-ass sparkling. And he can walk around in the daylight if he covers his head with a newspaper! I never liked how vulnerable vampires were, so that was a nice touch. Ooh, the vampire in Blood Ties is also super gorgeous and his only vampire-y traits are black eyes, I think. It seems to me that as time goes on, vampires get less and less ugly, lol.

Glad you approve. Leverage and PD are my new favorites, so I wanted to see what you thought of them.

[identity profile] sunkrux.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
LOL

I kinda like that vampires change like they do in the Angel/Buffy verse. Makes since since werewolves change, why shouldn't vampires get to change a bit? ;-b

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I guess I'm a bit of a snob. I'm not that big a fan of werewolves. They're all- furry and stuff. And their lives are ruled by the phases of the moon, which determines when they turn into slobbering mindless monsters. HOT, YO. Vampires tend to be portrayed as more elegant and sophisticated and controlled. But I'm speaking in general terms here, it's not a rule or anything, that's just how I see them. Except in those fantasy books I mentioned above, the rules of the game are totally different.

[identity profile] sunkrux.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, seriously, vampires are not always elegant and sophisticated. It's so NOT elegant or sophisticated to bite and suck out someone's blood. :P

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, point.
Though there was a book series where vampires didn't physically suck blood from people but somehow...pulled out the molecules through the victim/volunteer's skin. Not in a gory splatter of blood, but teensy little molecules or something, I'm hazy on the physics but it was so subtle that people may not even know it was happening. Neat idea.

[identity profile] sunkrux.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting take on how vampires feed. I'm currently reading the first of the books that the series True Blood is based on. Not bad so far. :D

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Let me know how you go? I only managed to get through one book before giving up. The writer's talented, and I love that Sookie has spirit and personality and she's rather sweet, but the plots just weren't my style.

Btw, do you watch True Blood or just read the books?

[identity profile] sunkrux.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I'll read any of the other books. I watched a few of the eps but then had to get rid of HBO because it was just to expensive to have. Haven't really seen much of the series.

[identity profile] sapphs.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe, I really like those books :D I kind of want a Curran. And now I want to read it again. Holy, hell do I really want a Curran! You have read all three right?

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
I absolutely LOVE them. But you know that already. :D
And it was funny, because I was like- hey, this guy breaks into her place to watch her sleep. Edward!Stalker!alert, right? But she doesn't find it romantic and she kicks his ass, so that makes it okay. ^_^

I so wants me a Curran. *daydreams*

Yes, I've read all three [I managed to make MS last a whole week, it was so hard pacing myself!]. And will probably DIE FROM THE STRESS OF WAITING for the next one [JUNE 2010. *criz*]. Have you read the prologue that Ilona put up on her website? It made me tear out my hair with frustration, lol.

[identity profile] sapphs.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
I love that she kicks his arse :D Also? Her sword sounds so awesome! I want a sword that sparks!

The excerpt from Andrea's POV? Yeah! I want more!

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-24 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I was totally sold by the cover- lookit that sword! And it's so temperamental it starts smoking now and then, ahaha.

Omg, dude, no, no, not that one from Andrea's POV [although it sounds fab and I want!] but the excerpt from the new Kate book [tentatively titled Magic Bleeds]. I lost my link to it and upon googling, I discovered Ilona's on LJ, which just makes me giddy. :D Anyway, Kate excerpt here (http://ilona-andrews.livejournal.com/301885.html#cutid1).

ETA: Oh, dear god, she's posting teensy snippets from the book along the way. It's nowhere near enough to sate my cravings but yayz! *bounces*

[identity profile] sapphs.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
WHAT?! I didn't even know any other existed! OOOoooooh boy am i going to have fun tonight! (Yes. this is my idea of fun, sue me :P)

And she's on LJ? ARGH! YAY! Another author I actually like to stalk *glee*

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's so sweet, there was some sort of competition for favorite shapeshifter and she promised the excerpt if Curran won, like, AS IF THERE WAS ANY DOUBT. *g*

*nodnod* Sooo stalking her. :D She's quite funny, I love that she was angsting over some punctuation issue, like, I've been there, I TOTALLY GET IT!

[identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I am not sure I have three fandoms and other days I realize I dabble in damn near everything. What do you think.....can you pick three things I am totally into? I will leave that up to you.

I am kinda anti-Twilight. Its like everywhere and I honestly had not even heard of it until the hype around the movie started to reach a fever pitch. It's a little bit insane. I never even heard of the books until then.

I need some new books to get into though.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, you are a toughie. CM and TWW, for sure. Other than that...Star Trek?

Heh, I'm very anti-Twilight, but there aren't a lot of us around, sadly. The craze over this book drives me mental.

You read crime/suspense type books, right? Yeah, I got nothing- oh, 'cept for Michael Koryta's Envy the Night, that made my fav list, but I'm more a fantasy/paranormal girl myself.

[identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Crime/suspense is my favorite kind of reading. I dont even know how I got hooked on it because I remember as a teen I hated it. I think it was Robert B. Parker though, I got hooked on Spenser, fell down the wormhole and never came back. Plus they are usually so short and to the point my frazzled attention span can handle them.

Ooh yes, I love all three and will be happy to do this meme on the morrow. I think I am going to bed early tonight. In fact, I just wrote a CM fic that talks about Star Trek over at [livejournal.com profile] hotch_prentiss. It was an excuse to get Hotch naked but its about Star Trek too : D

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I just remembered another crime author I really love- Lisa Gardner! I got the newsletter advertising her new book, so it wasn't really my memory at work, lol. Another crime-type author I love is Kay Hooper but she writes paranormal romances- paranormal FBI romances, if that makes it any better.

[identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I read Andrew M. Greely and he writes about a mystery solving Catholic priest in Chicago and there is always a couple in love in those stories who never have sex because they are good Catholics. I read Harlan Coben, James Patterson, Stuart Woods.....I can admit to not reading many female suspense authors, maybe I need to change that.

[identity profile] mere-dil.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
first let me you that I laughed at this puppet rip-off of Twilight .. was so funny!

I read the excerpt you posted of Magic Bites and I liked it .. easy language and
it looks really enjoyable though I'm not a very much Vampire fan .. but everything
has a start right? :-) ..

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Bwahaha, teh puppet mockery is fantastically funny. *rewatches it yet again* Glad you found it amusing! [Though if I have any secret Twilight fans on my flist, they probably hate my guts now]

OMG, you must read the book! I'm not kidding that I'll buy it off you if you don't like it. I want my own copy, I just can't get to town right now and then they have to order it from overseas and I can't be bothered doing all that when the library has it anyway.

I love the way Ilona writes. I read sci-fi so I'm used to and even enjoy 'complicated' language when it's done well, and I read trashy romances so I'm used to the lower quality of writing, lol, but Ilona's is quite a relief, it flows smoothly and she has such a funny perspective on things. I literally laughed out loud during a lot of scenes.

I don't know what it is that put you off vampires but these are not your traditional vampires. They're undead, but that's about all the similarity they have with the usual type, they're mindless monsters controlled by 'Masters of the Dead' who send them to run errands and stuff. [Handy!]

[identity profile] dragonladyk.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
LORD OF THE RINGS?! "Twilight" is the LORD of the BLOODY RINGS?! Lord of the Rings was an epic work of fiction that is the cornerstone of the fantasy genre, a classic summation of all Morte d'Arthur-era myths that could arguably stand as the mythology of England. The archetypes contained in the trilogy alone -- to say nothing of The Hobbit -- could take up an entire doctoral thesis. They HAVE been the subject of doctoral thesis as well as entire semesters. It is epic literature. Modern fantasy still draws on mythic concepts and methods captured in Tolkein.

Twilight, on the other hand, is epic, all right. Epic FAIL.

I weep for humanity, I really do.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-22 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
That supposedly mature and rational adults could be so brainwashed worries me, it really does. Apart from LOTR and Twilight both being BOOKS, they have nothing else in common, damn it! I was rather less eloquent in my horror at hearing this comparison [okay, incoherent, I admit it] but I gotta say WORD to your entire comment.

[identity profile] spence-reid.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Team Edward takes Bella to the woods to fall in love???????!!!!!!!!!!! That is the best line ever!!! That book is so much crap.....you are awesome for posting that!

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Spencey spencerkins! *staggers* That icon is made of total hotness!

LOOOOL, glad you enjoyed that vid! I adore it, just so hysterical.
'I might eat you'/'You complete me'.
*snickers* I wish there were more good parodies mocking Twilight!

[identity profile] odakota-rose.livejournal.com 2009-05-21 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
OFRAKNO. Please no sparkling vamps. Gods.
*gigglesnort*

*points Marguerite and her gun your way*
KEEP WRITING, BB. PLEEEEEEEEEEASE. *puppydog eyes*
There are very few things you will ever see me beg for. You finishing that fic is on the short list of them.

And can I do this meme?

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-05-22 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Not even sparkling PUPPET vamps? :D
I'd so watch a parody!Twilight movie starring puppets. *snickers*

*points Marguerite and her gun your way*
*gasps* Would you shoot this face? :P

I JUST HAAAATE WHAT I'VE GOT SO FAR. IT SUCKS, BUT I CAN'T GET RID OF IT BECAUSE A FEW THOUSAND WORDS LATER, I DON'T WANT TO WASTE ALL THAT EFFORT, DAMN IT. BUT I'LL TRYYYY, I PROMISE.

Also, I'm kinda flattered that the fic's that important to you- pride!- but otoh, I feel guilty at making you beg- fail!- which makes me wonder...how did you strike upon the exact combination of emotions and feelings to motivate me to get back to writing again?!

Le meme:
-BSG
-CSI: NY
-and... [suspense!] TLW. Lol. 'twas wholly unexpected, right?
You can substitute Doctor Who for that if you want, though. :P [One reason I'm a teensy bit put out with 'dreamwidth'- whenever I see DW, I think of the Doctor, you know? I don't like it when people mess with my acronyms]

[identity profile] odakota-rose.livejournal.com 2009-05-23 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
The vid was about all I could take, I admit it. In my defense, I think I was about three seconds from feeling my brain drip out of my ears and/or turn into a zombie.
BRAINZZZZ, YO.

*gasps* Would you shoot this face? :P

There's this thing called tough love...
But no, I wouldn't shoot you in the face. At least not with the gun. Maybe a snowball though...

I JUST HAAAATE WHAT I'VE GOT SO FAR. IT SUCKS, BUT I CAN'T GET RID OF IT BECAUSE A FEW THOUSAND WORDS LATER, I DON'T WANT TO WASTE ALL THAT EFFORT, DAMN IT. BUT I'LL TRYYYY, I PROMISE.

EXCUSES! You always think your stuff sucks and it never has. As your sister model and beta, I must insist upon your ignoring that little voice saying 'it sucks'. It's merely a quirk of the programming. *nodnod*
*huggles* Get to it, you're awesome, and I will tell you that however many times I have to until it sinks in.

Also, I'm kinda flattered that the fic's that important to you- pride!- but otoh, I feel guilty at making you beg- fail!- which makes me wonder...how did you strike upon the exact combination of emotions and feelings to motivate me to get back to writing again?!

What can I say? It's a gift. *makes teh puppy eyes some more*

-and... [suspense!] TLW. Lol. 'twas wholly unexpected, right?

I know! I'm just so shocked. :P
