'...if I had the chance to peer inside your mind and give up your mystery, I'd think twice...'

'k, so I've been trying to post this entry for the past few days. I blame odakota_rose for dragging me off into never-ending IM sessions for the fact that I haven't been around much :P Not that I put up much of a fight, lol. I just have so much fun rambling on about everything and anything, then all of a sudden, it's like, 'Crap, where did the last four hours go? I have to leave now!'

---
Me: I am so blind. *facepalm* How did I miss that?!
odakota: *preen*
Me: *squishes* Like a peacock? Lol. That could be your animagus form... [hey, cool, I didn't realize it was a symbol of immortality, neat!]
odakota: Hmm. but what good could I do as a peacock?
Me: Be pretty and stuff? I'm sure you'd be a fearsome foe if the situation called for it. [How sexist, though, only males possess these metatarsal spurs or "thorns" for use in fights- does that mean the chicks are too smart to resort to violence? Damn you, wikipedia, for you deficiencies...]
odakota: ooh! magic feathers. feathers of doom
Me: I'm sure in the wizarding world, there are such things as Magic Feathers of Doom. [I literally laughed out loud at that!] It sounds like a pokemon attack or something! *hides* Why, no, I wasn't secretly obsessed with Pokemon and Digimon as a kid...
odakota: Well maybe its a special type of peacock.. Omg, you were!
Me: Yes, you would be a rare special type of peacock. *nuzzles* The bestest most shiny special kind imaginable! And....omg, okay, I totally was.
odakota: *snicker* And I'd get to ride the special bus too

Me: Hee. 'Yo, the name is Batty / The logic is erratic / Potato in a jacket / Toys in the attic / I rock and I ramble / My brain is scrambled / Rap like an animal, but I'm a mammal...'
I have no excuse for this.
odakota: *Dies* I'll have you know that I've just busted up laughing and I'm not even going to try to explain this to daniel.

odakota: *snicker* You're like Cowboy Woody on Toy Story! *pulls string* "This town ain't big enough for the two of us, pardner!"
Me: LOLOL.
odakota: "There's a snake in my boot!"
Me: Nooo, stop it
odakota: tehehee

Me: Too bad I can't owl post you. Now that'd be cool...although you know, it seems pretty damn inefficient...how is trans-continental post even possible? Surely they can't fly that far with packages! *brain!splodes*
odakota: maybe they use magical owlish wormholes
Me: LMAO. DUUUDE. That is cracky!awesome! And a prime example of why I love you so much. *dies laughing*
odakota: I suppose all the flying keeps the owls from getting pudgy at least.
Me: Lol, yeah, there are no Dudley Dursleys amongst owl-kind. *snorts*
odakota: Oh gosh. Now there's a mental image.

---

I saw this, sapph, and I thought of you...

RAWRRRR.
Lol. It was JUST after we were talking about wolves and Daine and all, I was like, OMG, TIMING.
Whipped out my phone and stretched out the top to take the photo, like, 'Carry on, people, don't worry about me, this is perfectly normal behavior...' *whistles*

I hate summer.

Hand me any justification you might think of and I will demolish it.

The part that has me distinctly disgruntled right now? I had two family blocks of Cadbury waiting to be devoured- and they MELTED. A true tragedy, I tell you. I tried to force myself to nibble on the melted mush anyway, but it made me feel rather nauseous so I gave up on it as a lost cause. *sniffles*

So, Mentalist ep 6.

This all is reminiscent of Cuddy perjuring herself for House- I was naive enough to think that might stir him to be a tad more respectful, but no. And even though Jane generally treats Lisbon way better than House would, he still behaved like an ass.

He figured out that Lisbon pulled some major strings on his behalf, involving not-so-legal avenues to save his unworthy hide, and when she makes the reasonable request for him to rethink some of his outlandish schemes and to consider the trouble he causes her before acting so irresponsibly, he’s all ‘let’s not get carried away’, wtf?!

She saves him from years in prison and he wants to pull the charming reprobate act rather than be properly grateful and exercise a little restraint?! What is WRONG with him? Oh, scratch that, it’d take way too long to enumerate all his faults and failings. I’m disappointed in him, really.

At this point? I’m loving Castle more than Jane. *nodnod* For real. ‘I’m a wise-ass, not a jack-ass,’ he says. Jane might want to learn that distinction.

Is it just me or is there a deluge of books lately revolving around ordinary human girls/amazing supernatural dudes?
Just a few that I came across while browsing for new books- Shiver, Hush Hush and Fallen [a rip-off of Twilight]. Among many others.

Was there always a market for this or did Twilight create the new demand for that kind of romance? I can understand the appeal of these books- I wouldn't mind being swept off my feet by someone rich, handsome and super in love with me, y'know? It's all about wish fulfilment, I get it- but my tastes have always run towards a more equal relationship, where the chick is equally awesome and talented and kick-ass. When I read the books, it's more about vicariously living through the main female character- so if she's just this average, boring person with no skills or self-confidence, I get bored pretty fast.

I don't think I've pimped these books lately, so I will now- YOU MUST READ:
*Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels books, starting with Magic Bites, and
*Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy books, starting with...Vampire Academy.

I just wanted to DIE from how wonderful it was! I mean, okay, yes, there were heart-wrenching and soul-crushing moments galore, ye gods, the ANGST, but seriously! Gah, the EPIC WIN!

One of the best parts wasn't even about Rose/Dimitri, which I still ship against the odds, lol- it was Rose and Lissa. I absolutely hated Lissa's guts for turning her back on Rose at the end of the last book. I didn't expect her to up and volunteer to join Rose on her mission, that'd be crazy, she's not trained to handle danger and I don't fault her for staying behind. It's not cowardice, it's self-preservation.

But to make Rose CHOOSE who is more important? And threaten to sever their friendship if she leaves? That's emotional blackmail, and so despicable. Here's her friend, who's ready and willing to give up her life to save Lissa when she's in trouble, who voluntarily absorbs the darkness from Lissa's mind to help her live free and sane despite the negative consequences for Rose, and she would throw that away like it meant nothing. ARGH. Three books building up their epic friendship all for it to crumble like this? FAIL.

I'm eating my words now. I should've had more faith in the author- she totally redeemed that plot. It wasn't something just thrown in there to amp up the heartbreak, it wasn't just for kicks, she had a plan. The shambles of their friendship was examined throughout the fourth book and then at the end, she resolved all the bitterness and loneliness and despair, and I was pretty much pumping my fist, like, BOOYAH, THIS IS AWESOME. I pretty much never find anything with female friendship in it and for her to continue developing their relationship throughout the four books is so impressive and fulfiling like you have no idea.

I loved the parallels- at the end of the third book, Rose set off on her own, heartbroken, to kill Dimitri.
At the end of the fourth, she's not alone anymore, she has Lissa with her now, Lissa who's learned from her mistakes and vowed to remain by Rose's side to help her in whatever battles she's facing- and it's all the sweeter because of their falling out, because of the separation over this last book. It's rewarding because they went through all that drama and emerged out the other side with their friendship tested and stronger than ever.

And the whole killing DImitri thing? Well, that's still in the cards but now she's hoping to be able to save him. But he's not content with the idea of changing her, oh no, now he's out to kill her- the final, ultimate kind of death, not the undead kind. Lol. How times have changed.

I can't WAIT for the new book! But- *wibbles* How am I going to last til May next year? *criz*

• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity

• Update your journal with the answers to the questions

• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions

1. If you could change any storyline on your favourite TV show, past or present, what would you change and why?

I wouldn’t allow Elizabeth to be written off of SGA.

I didn’t mind the idea of her gaining some special type of abilities- it would bring interesting new dynamics to the show, she’d become, like, Asura!beth for the side of the good, rather than evil repli!carter, she’d parallel Teyla with her Wraith genes/limited telepathic abilities.

But to kill her over and over was pointless and cruel. I’d bring her back for good, and since she probably couldn’t be appointed leader of Atlantis again, have her join Shep’s team. That’d allow her to become more involved, which can only be a good thing.

I mean, if Daniel can be a civilian and translate dead languages and STILL play a major part in SG-1, I think it’s just lazy writing that Elizabeth, a civilian whose job is to negotiate with people had such a limited role.

2. List three things you want to do before you die, and why.

Considering that dying is at the top of my wish list of things I want to happen right the frak now, umm…

I'll go with reading the books on my wish list [Ilona Andrews, Richelle Mead and Jim Butcher's new books]...meeting Claudia Black next year, FINGERS CROSSED...and finishing off the WiP of Doom. Because certain people keep pestering me to continue it *raises eyebrow at odakota_rose* and I feel quite guilty.

3. If you could change anything in your life at all for the better, what would you change?

In the fantastical sense, I would snap my fingers and make myself rich, gorgeous and popular.

Realistically? I would make myself more driven to succeed. Perhaps if I had more ambition and focus, I wouldn’t be so screwed,

4. Which is your favourite female character on television (past or present) and why?

Ooh, of all time? One pick? This is hard… *wibbles*

I have a lot of loves- currently, Teresa Lisbon and Kate Beckett are at the top of the list of favorite female tv characters.

But if I’m picking one woman overall…

I’d go with Marguerite Krux from The Lost World.

Because she’s snarky and witty and amazingly funny.
Ursula: You have been purified now you are ready.
Marguerite: Ready; ready for what?
[Ursula pulls out a knife from a tall stone object with running water in the middle.]
Ursula: An offering to the Gods.
Marguerite: You give me too much credit. I have so little to offer; really.
Ursula: You have your beating heart.
Marguerite: Oh come on; I’m sure we can work something out. I mean, does it have to be my heart?
[Ursula recites a chant in a strange language. She raises the knife over Marguerite.]
Marguerite: What about some fingernail clippings instead; a lock of hair? It’s my real color!

Because she’s so damn gorgeous and I could watch her all day without getting bored.

Because she may be lazy, but when the situation calls for it, Marguerite is fierce and kick-ass.

Because she has the most amusing way of cutting other people down to size- she has an abrasive sense of humor that I admire.

Marguerite: Aren't you an ugly toad. Actually, I take it back. You're not a toad- you're a wart ON a toad.

[shoots this dude, Kirin, who was offering her everlasting youth]
Marguerite: I'm a little choosy about who I spend eternity with.
[frees the others from the cage]
Roxton: Where's Kirin?
Marguerite: Gone to a warmer climate.

Marguerite: So where’s the part where we blast our way out of this berg?
Roxton: One slight glitch - the knights took all our weapons. They get nervous when armed strangers walk around their camp. Marguerite: You just handed over the guns?
Roxton: Well we were a little out numbered. It was either that or die.
Marguerite: Excuses, excuses.
Roxton: My god, Marguerite, what the hell have you gotten us into this time?
Marguerite: Is that any way to talk to a queen?
Roxton: Future queen, not to mention a royal pain in the…
[Ugo puts a sword to Roxton’s throat]
Ugo: Ugo at your service shall I kill the unpleasant one now.
Marguerite: Let me think about that.
Ugo: I’m also well versed in several forms of torture.
Roxton: Marguerite...?
Marguerite: On second thought, no, why should I have all the fun?

Because she’s been hurt in the past and she has so many defense mechanisms and barriers to keep her apart from other people, to keep her safe, and yet she overcomes them and starts to form real meaningful relationships.

Even though she’s not always appreciated like she should be...

Challenger: Where the hell is Marguerite?
Roxton: Oh looking out for herself as usual.
[Meanwhile, as they whinge, Marguerite takes out two guards on her own, at risk to her safety, instead of just fleeing and leaving them to save their own hides]
Roxton: You certainly took your sweet time

...even though the others don’t understand her sometimes and judge her harshly, she’ll still stick her neck and risk her life for them.

Roxton: Listen, whatever Kaysan asks - you do it.
Marguerite: You mean kill you? Oh I don’t think so. I mean what’s today Tuesday? I never kill anybody on Tuesdays.
Roxton: It won’t be you killing me. It will be Kaysan.
Marguerite: Sure will, right after he boils me in oil.
Roxton: Stop it.
Marguerite: I mean, ta-tah Roxton see you in that great safari in the sky.
Roxton: For once in your life will you just shut up and listen, now either way I’m dead.
Marguerite: Roxton
Roxton: I won’t have your death on my hands.
Marguerite: But I’m supposed to have yours on mine? No!
Roxton: Marguerite, please, please.
Marguerite: I can’t. I can’t.

And though they tend to think she's just a greedy, self-serving mercenary, she does sometimes do the right thing with no ulterior motives or thoughts of personal gain.
[Scene: Nighttime Gawain’s camp – Veronica is locked up in the stocks. Marguerite sneaks up on the guard…she knocks him over the head with a bucket.]
Veronica: Hurry up.
Marguerite: You’re welcome.
[Veronica turns to run but Marguerite doesn’t.]
Veronica: They’ll be back any second.
Marguerite: I can’t.
Veronica: What? We come all this way for you and now you want to stay?
Marguerite: How can I leave the kid in the clutches of the wicked stepfather?
Veronica: Oh you picked a lousy time go soft.
Marguerite: Think about it - Vordred is going to kill him. Leaving him will be like sentencing him to death.

Malone: Do you think he fell for it?
Marguerite: I’m sure he did. [to the bandit] Your identity is still a secret.
Bandit: I don’t know how to thank you.
Marguerite: Keep robbing Edgar, it’s the least you can do for our mutual friend.
Veronica: Come on we have to hurry.
Marguerite: What about your clothes?
Bandit: Keep them they suit you.
Marguerite: Good luck.
Bandit: Thank you.

5. If reincarnation is true and you could pick the animal you come back as, which animal would you pick and why?

Something sleek and beautiful and deadly. *nodnod* I don’t want to be prey, all right?
Deers and gazelles and all that are pretty but defenseless, so I don’t want to be no Bambi or Thumper.
A wolf or panther or leopard, some animal like that would be awesome. ^_^
If we were allowed to select magical creatures, I wouldn't mind being a unicorn or phoenix! Those'd be awesome!

Not surprised you picked the awesome Marguerite...but she didn't shoot Kirin, she stabbed him in the back. mwahahahaha. ;)

"Resistance Is Futile" :D

*HEADDESKWALLFLOOR*
Lol, you keep me on my toes, you do! Who else would've picked up on that? Gah, yes, of course she stabbed the smarmy prat, I know that very well as I've rewatched it a thousand times and used it in two or three of my vids!

So WHY did I write 'shoot'? Short-circuit between the brain and my hands, I think...

Ooh, hmm. I suck at coming up with questions, but give these a go...

1. Counting out Marguerite, who is your current favorite female character and why?
2. If you could produce a movie/TV show out of a book/book series of your choice, which would you pick and who would you cast in the leading roles?
3. Which tv or movie character would you most like to throw off a cliff and why?
4. Which is worse, shivering in the cold while wearing scanty clothing or sweltering in the heat under a few layers of jumpers?
[I ask because I'm freezing in my short-sleeved top under the full blast of the air-con]
5. What's the wittiest one-liner or exchange of banter you've heard recently? [On tv or in RL]

[identity profile] sunkrux.livejournal.com 2009-11-16 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hey it's my job to make sure my fellow Marguerite fangirl properly credits Marguerite with how she's killed someone. LOL

You'll have to check my LJ for the response to your questions. ;-b

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
*grumblegrumble* I hate messing up something so basic and for a show I should know like the back of my hand but ah well, better to know where I went wrong. Ignorance is NOT bliss, imo.

Is that the only time she killed someone with a knife? 'coz that's usually a Veronica weapon, isn't it? I don't recall Marguerite wielding knives all that often, I always picture her with a gun/rifle. *ponders*

[identity profile] sunkrux.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I believe that Kirin is the only person that we know of Marguerite using a knife to kill him. She might have used knives before we "knew" her but it was never revealed. Typically I think she went with guns since they're less likely to get any blood on her depending on how close she was to whomever she was shooting.

[identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
No Emily for favorite female character? Not even an honorable mention? Now I'm wibbling.

I am so with you on those weak females in some of those books....it drives me bananas. And the worse part is a bunch of young teen and young adult girls are reading this and its giving them the thumbs up to be weak, simpering idiots. Ick.

Resistance is futile

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
*whimpers* No, I didn't mean to slight Emily! I was making a distinction between my newest favorites, and Marguerite, who's my all-time favorite even if I'm not watching TLW atm. Em's been a fave of mine for the past few years so I didn't include her on the newbie list, that's all! *squishes you*

Questions:

1. If you could do a crossover of two of your favorite shows, which ones would you choose and what would happen?

2. Do you think your username is still relevant, even though you spend more time in the CM fandom and fangirling Emily these days? If not, what would you rename yourself?

[No offense intended, I ask because I've been wondering the same about mine]

3. What would be your dream job? [Give me something realistic, and something that would never happen in a million years but would be crazy awesome anyhow]

4. Which is worse, shivering in the cold while wearing scanty clothing or sweltering in the heat under a few layers of jumpers?

[I ask because I'm freezing in my short-sleeved top under the full blast of the air-con]

5. If you had the power to mess with the canon of a book/tv series of your choice, what would you change, apart from a romance between your favorite pair? [Perhaps altering their relationship without RST, adding a new character or removing one, changing someone's history, reviving a dead character and so on...]

[identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I understand about Emily, being the newbie in all. Just wanted to make sure you hadnt forgotten about her.

See, this is why I adore you.....these are some damn good questions. I might have to declare you meme question queen!

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Never. ;D
[I envy Netty for having 'Emily' as her middle name. *sighs* Although there was some sort of kerfuffle when they got their Australian citizenship recently and for some complicated reason, the girls all lost their middle names in the process, lol- now they have to get documents from Samoa and fill out things for the Embassy and get all the paperwork done to get their names back *eyeroll*]

Aww, really? Meme Question Queen. Thank you, bb, it has an impressive ring to it! *glees*

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
a bunch of young teen and young adult girls are reading this and its giving them the thumbs up to be weak, simpering idiots. Ick.

Gah. I know, I KNOW. I have a love/hate relationship [20% love and 80% hate, right now] with JKR. She gave me two amazing characters who I adore the heck out of, but she also screwed up so badly with characterization and plot.

I don't consider the Hermione she wrote for HBP/DH to be canon!Hermione, not in my eyes. I hate the way she weakened her character in order to bring her down to level of the average, brainless, simpering twit. Who sacrifices her individuality and integrity for embarrassing boy-crazy stunts.

Hermione's the chick that started a movement to free house elves because of perceived injustice, and yet she goes and HEXES A FELLOW STUDENT so that Ron can get onto the quidditch team? When he has pretty much NO skill and doesn't deserve the spot at all?

She can't bear to tell him that he's not good enough, so she fixes the try-outs to help him win. This after being all snotty and jealous at Harry for cheating at Potions. *head!splodes* What an awful friend she is, all because JKR sabotaged her character, Hermione was so much more mature and awesome as a kid than as an adult.

What JKR did is more insidious and twisted than Twilight and co because she creates this ostensibly strong, level-headed mature character but then makes her weak and juvenile and basically a doormat to a guy who treats her like crap. Because it's TWU WUV. *gags* I call it emotional abuse, but whatever.

[identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
But I dont blame Ron, I blame the writer. Hell, Ron was a very well-written typical teenage boy. Hermoine was an extraordinary character who was reduced to something silly. I actually hate the sixth Harry Potter book and didnt even bother with the seventh so I wouldnt know all of what you mean but I do know a little of it. What I loved about Ron and Hermoine is because she was who she was, he was supposed to grow or lose her. Maybe not grow at 16, 17, 18 but eventually. He doesnt have to now if she changed.

I think that's why I love writing so much, I love making the characters maybe something I cant be, or my ideal self....strong women who love and fight hard and are appreciated. When they're not, they let it be known....whether its their husband, their boss, or he might be both ; ) Its just important for me to show that even when they are team players they are also strong individuals.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I think Ron was better written in the first book- I loved how mature and practical he was when they were playing that chess game and he sacrificed himself so that Harry could move forward. Here's an 11 year old kid risking his life and understanding that helping Harry achieve his goal was more important because the fate of their world could depend on it.

[Spoilers for DH
...
...
Contrast that with the older, not!wiser asshat Ron who left Hermione in tears, begging for him to stay with her, and just walked away because it was too hard- never mind the girl he supposedly loves, never mind his best friend of the past seven years, never mind the EVIL WIZARD OUT TO DESTROY THEIR SOCIETY
...
...]

Hermione was an extraordinary character who was reduced to something silly. I actually hate the sixth Harry Potter book

WORD.
Some people praised JKR because she captured the mindset of the normal teenager- WTF?! If I wanted to read about dumbass kids making stupid decisions- uh, no, actually, I wouldn't want to read that crap, I witness it in RL enough, thank you! She started off with amazing, interesting characters and then ruined them along the way.

[I stopped liking Ron in GoF, when he abandoned Harry in his time of need instead of sticking by his friend, and when he basically calls Hermione a slut for going with Viktor to the ball and makes her cry- best friend material, he is not]

What I loved about Ron and Hermione is because she was who she was, he was supposed to grow or lose her

I would've loved to see him grow, in order to become more mature and deserving of someone as complicated as her. Instead, JKR just dumbed her down. Why make her so smart and talented in the first place, I ask?

I love making the characters maybe something I cant be, or my ideal self....strong women who love and fight hard and are appreciated...Its just important for me to show that even when they are team players they are also strong individuals

And this is why I love reading fanfic. *twirls* It explores all the possibilities for my favorite characters that doesn't get expressed in canon.

[identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
I think this might be why I dont like a lot of fanfic. While I cannot say I've read hundreds of stories, a lot of time I see the female characters in het fic as being all about just getting that man. They'll pretend to be strong to get his attention and then quickly surrender, ala Harlequin romance or the whole point of the fic will be the breaking down of the female character as "sexy". Again, this is general, surely I have not read all of the world of fic. And while surely I do not call myself perfect, I try never to do that.

I've just been disappointed in a lot of things I've tried to read lately. Man, a good book or a good fic would be better than my favorite meal right now.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Pretty icon is pretty! You have excellent taste!]

Hmph, I agree that's really annoying- women that are all about bagging the man and with no story of their own irritate me.

[I watched Quantum of Solace yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that the Bond Girl had her own story and in fact, could've been taken out of the movie and still had a coherent plot-line separate from banging Bond]

But I don't think it's solely the province of fanfic- I read a lot of romances and 80% of them are worthless pieces of crap and it makes me wonder how they got published in the first place. On the flip side, I've read amazing fanfics that are far superior to a lot of published work, so it really depends.

Can I just say, whether in fic or books, I really hate when the couple is shagging by the second chapter? It bugs me like crazy. I like smut as much as the next girl, but I don't want character development to be sacrificed in the process! Grr!

I also hate it when women assert their independence and strength and iron will only to exercise it with a distinct lack of judgment or common sense and running headlong into a dangerous situation with no help or back-up. And when a man offers his assistance, they sniff disdainfully and refuse because they are STRONG MODERN WOMEN and don't need ANYONE. *clutches head*

[identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, to everything you said, except the fic thing because I honestly have not read much fic because I just dont find much that satisfies me. I can admit to being a total picky bitch. But everything you said is pretty much on point. Strong women does not equal heinous, angry chick. Its not often I find that TV/Books/such nail this but sometimes they do. The female characters on Criminal Minds are strong, even when they're vulnerable or snappish......in the end they are rational, which is what I respect the most.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly have not read much fic because I just dont find much that satisfies me.

Meh, in CM!verse, I agree. There are damn few writers that pull off our ship well, in comparison to my other ships. I think it's because CM's screentime is semi-equally divided between several characters, all with their own chemistry with a few different people, whereas with shows like Mentalist and Castle, the writers deliberately focus on one couple above all and pimp it for all they're worth. Which inspires more writers in turn. *shrugs* That's my theory anyway, for why an awesome pairing like Emily and Hotch doesn't receive as much attention as it deserves.

[Btw, one reliable author I know of is fotobridget2 on ff.net, have you read her fics?]
I can admit to being a total picky bitch

Oh, hell yeah, me, too. There are so many little things that set me off, it's not even funny and makes it damn hard for me to enjoy fic. *sighs* I'm more a fan of UST rather than RST, [I think you're an amazing writer but I imprinted on UST and I can't override that, which is why I don't often comment on your fics], for instance, which automatically wipes out a hefty percentage of available fics.

Strong women does not equal heinous, angry chick.

OMG, yes, that. I'm sorry, I know you like Jordan but to me, that's what she came off as. And it's a stereotype I've seen propagated across many shows and it infuriates me. ARGH.

I love the BAU women, they're often so much more sensible than the men. The way Garcia warned Morgan off that chick in the best interests of the case- wtf is he doing driving people home personally instead of calling a cab, I ask? If he wanted to be a gentleman, he could've paid the fare in advance, instead of skiving off work- and then he gets all defensive and ends up going to see the woman anyway, lord help me, I want to just- *swipes at him*

[identity profile] mcgarrygirl78.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen a few of fotobridget's stories and they are OK, honestly I'm just not that into fic. I never have been much of a fic reader. I only started writing it 5 years ago because I had writer's block....I have been writing original stuff since I was eight. I dont write fic because I love fic, I write fic cuz I'm a writer and more often than not other people's stuff isnt how I see it so I dont go there.

UST is something that has to be done just right......its no easy feat. I have a few but I prefer the playful banter of people either in an established relationship or dancing around love. I also am not overly fond of angst, though when I get it in my head I dont avoid writing it. Fic is kinda a double edged sword for me because I love what I do but dont get much satisfaction from the genre as a whole.

Also, I think Morgan has his reasons for feeling attracted (and I dont mean sexually) to Tamara just as Garcia had her reasons for telling him to back off. She was all alone in the world and Morgan does not leave a man behind, that's how I saw it anyway. Something in her spoke to him and he shouldnt be blamed for that, whether it turns out to be a good idea or a not so good one. I dont think he once ignored the job for her.....she was the job. She was a victim.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I think people read/write fic for different reasons- for me, it's about living vicariously through the characters, rather than reading for the characters' sake, which is why I'm so picky because it's me-by-proxy, y'know? And I struggle with the idea of intimacy, which I guess is why I like to read about couples that start off apart and work their way to becoming closer and more affectionate in gradual steps.

I do find it interesting that you write fic but don't really read it. So for you, it's more about creativity and also lavishing love on your favorite characters, which is quite unselfish when I think about it!

Eh, I can see Morgan's actions in a positive light if I squint at it in the direction you pointed out, but I just really didn't like that chick, she annoyed me. I know that I'd probably feel differently if I were in her position, but as a viewer, I HATE it when relatives interfere with the case and don't let the people investigating it do their job. I think they should back off and not bother the people who are trying to bring the perps to justice and take their focus away from the case.

And I suppose it was just compassion that moved Morgan to extend himself for her...but I couldn't help wondering that if it was a plain, dumpy woman or a pushy dude, whether he'd've felt compelled to involve himself as much with them. It bugs me when people put more effort into assisting pretty people, but that may just be my own bias here and I'm reading too much into poor Morgan's actions when he's really just being chivalrous, lol.

I’m really starting to dislike Jane this season

Like so many shows, they start out well and then the writers start fixing what
'ain't' broke......e.g. SGA.........nothing wrong with how it started out but they refused to leave it alone.............until it was no longer recognizable from its original format.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-16 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
until it was no longer recognizable from its original format

Yes, THAT. I mean, Mentalist did amazingly well in its first season so I don't know why they're tinkering with it so much in the second season. Have you seen what they've done with the Rigsby/Van Pelt thing? FAIL. >:[ And I hate that Jane is becoming less sympathetic and more unlikable. It's kinda like the way writers treated O'Neill in the later seasons and in his crossovers on SGA and SGU- a heartless caricature of his former self, all snide cliche and no soul.

[identity profile] sharpes-hussy.livejournal.com 2009-11-16 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
all snide cliche and no soul.

It is odd you mention this as I was just telling a friend how much I detested O'Neil in that episode
of SGA where he and
Woolsley are stuck in Atlantis and Sheppard and team are trying to access it by jumper
It turns out it must be done underwater...........O'Neil does a lot of swimming, than goodness at least his mouth was shut then because I got so TIRED of his snarkiness. In fact
I said outloud a couple of time "OK that's enough".........and
It is unbecoming of an officer and a gentleman, and I mean that in all sincerity...........

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
thank goodness at least his mouth was shut then because I got so TIRED of his snarkiness.

*gigglesnort* You got that right! I love O'Neill but I think bringing RDA back for these guest spots was a big mistake. [The only worthwhile appearance was in Real World, where he was his old pleasant self, but that turned out to be a hallucination, anyway!] The writers made him appear to be an asshole, constantly threatening Shep and his team, 'you're fired' over and over and over. It wasn't funny the first time, okay?

And I'm not saying that just because O'Neill broke the rules that it's okay for everyone else to do it, otherwise there's no point having a hierarchy, it'll just be chaos- but the least he could do is be understanding of WHY they took such drastic actions and maybe a bit grateful they came to save his life! Jeez!

Have you seen him in SGU? I don't think I'll bother recording the show anymore, it's really not my cup of tea, but I wanted to smack him so hard, the jerk.

[identity profile] sharpes-hussy.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Have you seen him in SGU? I don't think I'll bother recording the show anymore, it's really not my cup of tea, but I wanted to smack him so hard, the jerk.

I don't watch it, but are you saying he is same old snarky as he was in that episode I cited??
>:-/

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much, yes, if not WORSE.

Spoilers!

They come up with a plan that might allow the crew to return home- but there's a massive downside: if it fails, the ship could explode and everyone would die. O'Neill orders the main soldier dude to do it anyway, soldier dude says he needs time to reconsider it, so O'Neill orders the guy who's occupying soldier dude's body at that time [they're using the Ancient communication devices, like the ones that sent Daniel and Vala to the Ori galaxy in other people's bodies] to carry out the plan anyway.

What a major jackass. Where does he get off arbitrarily making orders that could KILL EVERYONE and not even let the soldier dude think it over before-hand? Suicide missions are a CHOICE, or should be, damn it, not just imposed on them like that! And soldier dude had a point- there are military AND civilian groups, and O'Neill wanted him to make that call that could risk all their lives without consulting the civilians.

And he implemented it without soldier dude's knowledge, through his body, that's just so sleazy and slimy and WRONG.

[identity profile] sharpes-hussy.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
do not get me started on how badly those writers handled military on SGA.......there was so much that was wrong, and I am not speaking of Sheppard's haircut as the AF felt compelled to point out apparently...........

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
The haircut! LOLOL, Joe Flanigan told us that apparently this military dude bribed him with a ride on a jet or whatever it is they fly [*iz woefully ignorant of mechanical knowledge*] to try and get him to improve his hairstyle! I thought that was hilarious!

[identity profile] sharpes-hussy.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
**nods**
AF are so retentive.............
:P
they can't all be Navy pilots where that hairstyle would be A
'fine'.....................and
I heard he had the same problem my ex did
It is why Jim washed out of flight school.........
The first time I flew the plane captain told me "Ma'am you
mess up my cockpit, you clean it up"
Apparently they were so impressed with Sheppard, er, Flanigan
that they just let the poor plane captain clean it up.............

Yay, you did the meme! I will come back to comment more thoroughly later but RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I did the meme! And you never came back! *pouts* COME BAAAACK!

I have been tardy with your questions, my bad, but dude, it is harder than I thought!

1. How did you come up with your username?
2. Did the BAU ever get to go on their fishing trip, and if so, do you have any juicy gossip for us?
3. What ship would you destroy if you had the chance, either because it's just too stupid to live or the shippers just are crazy irritating?
4. You're stranded on a desert island. Which five fictional characters would you take with you and why?
5. Tell me something you've never told your flist before? *bats eyelashes*

[identity profile] woodchoc-magnum.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'M BACK!! I SAID I WOULD COME BACK AND I DID!!! Worship me <- that's an order.

I will answer your questions promptly!

I tried to force myself to nibble on the melted mush anyway, but it made me feel rather nauseous so I gave up on it as a lost cause. *sniffles*

OMG NO. You eat it with a spoon!

Realistically? I would make myself more driven to succeed. Perhaps if I had more ambition and focus, I wouldn’t be so screwed

Oh, that's a good one. I'd do that too. If I had a little bit of that in me, I wouldn't be stuck in the job I'm in now.

I've never seen The Lost World... *shameface*

Something sleek and beautiful and deadly. *nodnod* I don’t want to be prey, all right?

A lion. I love lions. I could come back as a lion. :)

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-12-03 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ick, I love chocolate but eating it melted is just too much for me. How does a spoon make it any better?!

No need to be ashamed of not knowing what TLW's about. It's a fantasy show in the vein of Xena or Hercules ['cept with less sword-fighting and more shooting] that aired back in the 90's. It's ubercheesy and there is so much overacting and plot holes galore, but I love it anyway, because the ship is made of EPIC WIN. *luffs*

Hmm, a lion is good, but I'd rather a panther! They're sleeker and darker and so goooorgeous. ^_^

ETA: Okay, so for some reason, I can't embed videos in a comment. [Help?]
If you're curious about TLW and my passionate love for it, though, check out this vid:

YES, it's uber-corny and cliched, but just watch the first minute and seventeen secs, okay? It's hilarious and such an amazing tone of the ship, lol. *cracks up laughing* You totally see how they adore each other from the very start...*g*

How does a spoon make it any better?!

You spoon it into your mouth? ROFL

I don't know! I DON'T KNOW!! HOW DOES A SPOON MAKE IT BETTER? HOW? It just does, that's how!

It's ubercheesy and there is so much overacting and plot holes galore, but I love it anyway, because the ship is made of EPIC WIN. *luffs*

It's sort of vaguely starting to ring a bell now... Was it played late at night here?

I can't embed videos in a comment. [Help?]

I got nothing. Unless it's a YouTube video. I don't actually have any videos in my Photobucket.

It's hilarious and such an amazing tone of the ship, lol. *cracks up laughing* You totally see how they adore each other from the very start...*g*

She totally shot him near the balls. I lol'd. :)

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 12:10 am (UTC)(link)

I don't know! I DON'T KNOW!! HOW DOES A SPOON MAKE IT BETTER? HOW? It just does, that's how!

*backs away slowly* Dude, you have like, some strange oral fixation on that spoon or what?! *runs*

:P

I have no idea when it aired, I wasn't in the country when it started and I was young and oblivious to its cracky!awesome later on. *sighs*

She totally shot him near the balls. I lol'd. :)

*squee!flail* How AWESOME is that? How many ships have the initial meeting where the chick shoots the dude near the- *cough* sensitive portion of male anatomy? BWAHAHA.

Gald you're liking Castle :) I know I Love him too...but that could also be b/c I LOVE NATHAN FILLION!!! That was a great line "I’m a wise-ass, not a jack-ass,’" ..and then right after he makes a jackass comment & smiles :)
Have you seen/are you watching season 2??
Edited 2009-11-13 13:34 (UTC)

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-16 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Eeeheehee- that icon is HILARIOUS. *snickers* He looks deranged!

I think the relationship between Castle and Beckett is on more equal terms, y'know? He has his share of madcap schemes and infuriates her at times but Beckett has more control over Castle- I love how in the first few episodes, we see her effortlessly dominate him by pinching his nose or ear and putting him in his place! AND we get to see Beckett come up with case-closing epiphanies as well, omg, like, she has crime-solving skillz! Which nobody ELSE in Mentalist has, apart from Jane!

And yes indeedy, I am watching s2! So exciting, I'm loving it so far!

[identity profile] sapphs.livejournal.com 2009-11-14 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, WHERE did you find that shirt?! I WANT IT SO BAD.

ANd I have no idea what that picspam was about because I just ogled the prettiness that is Marguerite LOL.

Have the dvds worked?

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
I saw it at Cotton On. ;P
If you want me to get you one, I can totally do that [if they're still available]. I'm going to town later this week to pick up the new Ilona Andrews- On the Edge- so excited!

LOOOL, I'm glad someone else appreciates the gorgeous Marguerite. *luffs her so*

I'm returning home tonight, so I'll let you know about the dvds. I'll be so irritated if something as silly and minor as the dvd format affects whether it works or not, argh!

[identity profile] streetcatx.livejournal.com 2009-11-15 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Man, The Mentalist 2 x 6 was the worst episode of the entire show. I was so disappointed in the end that I promised myself not watch the next one. Fotunely, I didn't do this, because the 2 x 7 was awesome. I'm really hopeful about the next ones. The second season, in my opinion, really started this week.

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-16 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I THOUGHT SO, TOO. AND OMG, YOUR ICON SUMS UP MY FEELINGS EXACTLY.

*eases off caps-lock*

But really, it gets better? *bites lip* Well, thanks for giving me that hope, I'm sincerely hoping they up their game and if as you say, the second season just started with 2 x 7, I'm feeling my spirits lift a little because it has been below par lately. I love the show, I won't give up on it, but it was becoming more of a chore, y'know? 'I'm watching because I know I should enjoy this even if I'm currently agonizing at the craptastic!ness of it right now...'

[identity profile] streetcatx.livejournal.com 2009-11-16 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I understand your feelings!! But I hopeful because for the first time in this season, the writers proved that are capable to create a good episode. The show has so much potential... I'll be twice disappointed if the season don't get better in the next episodes.

And... I want the charming Patrick back. And the I-don't-buy-Jane's-crap Lisbon!!! I miss them so much... :'(

I love this icon!! lol

[identity profile] borg-princess.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I should be able to watch it this afternoon, so I'm looking forward to it instead of apprehensive for the first time, thank you! Let's hope it's a symptom that they're getting over their slump and easing into more awesome scripts. *nodnod* They had such a fantastic first season, it might've made them a bit cocky.

And... I want the charming Patrick back. And the I-don't-buy-Jane's-crap Lisbon!!! I miss them so much... :'(

YES, that. Charming Patrick is very different and much preferred to Smug Patrick with his Condescending Smirk and Superior Asshole Attitude. Jane had a heart in the first season- he'd mess around and make trouble, but he cared and now he's all drunk on power and wrecking things and totally note giving a damn about what it's costing Lisbon. Not cool.
