'k, so I've been trying to post this entry for the past few days. I blame odakota_rose for dragging me off into never-ending IM sessions for the fact that I haven't been around much :P Not that I put up much of a fight, lol. I just have so much fun rambling on about everything and anything, then all of a sudden, it's like, 'Crap, where did the last four hours go? I have to leave now!'

---

---

I saw this, sapph, and I thought of you...

Clicky! )

I hate summer.

Hand me any justification you might think of and I will demolish it.

The part that has me distinctly disgruntled right now? I had two family blocks of Cadbury waiting to be devoured- and they MELTED. A true tragedy, I tell you. I tried to force myself to nibble on the melted mush anyway, but it made me feel rather nauseous so I gave up on it as a lost cause. *sniffles*

So, Mentalist ep 6.

---

Is it just me or is there a deluge of books lately revolving around ordinary human girls/amazing supernatural dudes?
Just a few that I came across while browsing for new books- Shiver, Hush Hush and Fallen [a rip-off of Twilight]. Among many others.

Was there always a market for this or did Twilight create the new demand for that kind of romance? I can understand the appeal of these books- I wouldn't mind being swept off my feet by someone rich, handsome and super in love with me, y'know? It's all about wish fulfilment, I get it- but my tastes have always run towards a more equal relationship, where the chick is equally awesome and talented and kick-ass. When I read the books, it's more about vicariously living through the main female character- so if she's just this average, boring person with no skills or self-confidence, I get bored pretty fast.

I don't think I've pimped these books lately, so I will now- YOU MUST READ:
*Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels books, starting with Magic Bites, and
*Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy books, starting with...Vampire Academy.

Things that make me laugh:

Item #2385469029353 on the list of snicker-worthy ship name smushes. GRAPE.
As in Hermione Granger/Severus Snape =  Granger/Snape =Grape. *cracks up laughing*
I know I shouldn't talk, given I've submitted Jello as the Jane/Lisbon alternative ship name, but seriously, Grape?!
-

I was re-reading this convo that odakota_rose and I had a while back about a TLW/Sound of Music crossover and her crack!dialogue still sends me into gigglefits. ^_^

Can you imagine Marguerite meeting all these randomly happy singing people?
{Marguerite: Roxton, they're just going around singing! Obviously they're delusional.
Roxton: I imagine it's because they're happy.
Marguerite: I told you- delusional. And I haven't ever seen them need a reason to start singing. Yesterday Maria burst into song after a t-rex chased them- going on about her favorite things as if it would keep the dinosaurs away!}
-

I finished watching the Sanctuary finale yesterday. [OMG! *WIBBLES*] Which totally influenced my dream, in which I was at some sorta safe house with John Druitt and we had this whole Hannibal/Clarice [ship!] vibe going on, like, there was the 'I don't know whether I want to hit on you or kill you now' thing happening. *shivers* At least cannibalism wasn't on the menu. :P Forgive my terrible punning...
---

Things that make me rant:

Incompetent staff and terrible fast food service + annoying Australian habits )

-

I want to like Primeval. It’s kinda hard ‘coz:

List of fail )
-

I HATE JESSI. SHE NEEDS TO DIE RIGHT THE FRAK NOW.
*quivers with loathing and hostility*

I've only seen the first few eps of season 4 [Psychic Friend and Electric Kiss stick in my memory as well as my craw] and wow, did TATB screw up this show but good. I was upset when I found out about its cancellation but at this point, it's a mercy killing. *nodnod*

Kyle/Amanda v Kyle/Jessi )

---

Things that make me bounce off the walls:

I CAN GO SEE AMANDA TAPPING! WHEEE! :D
I was worried about the timing before, 'coz my parents wrangled numerous concessions to allow me to go to the convention last year, when it was a month before exam period. But due to the tortuous new trimester system- which necessitates the loss of our holidays plus study week *glares*- exams finish the week before the con! Oh, joy! *twirls giddily*
-

Does anyone know why the hell Channel Ten is suddenly screening So You Think You Can Dance at 11pm now? What happened to the family-friendly 7:30pm slot? They'd never do this shocking time-frame for the Australian version, so what gives? I much prefer the American show, with the hilarious judges and wonderful Cat and far more entertaining and humorous contestants, and it deserves better than to be relegated to last place behind Simpsons and movie repeats. *frowns*
-

I’m stuck in limbo hell, waiting for the next installments in all my favorite series. Currently making me nearly leap out of my skin with eager anticipation and hopeless desperation:

My wishlist ^_^ )

SORTING HAT

Your result for The Sorting Hat Test...

Slytherin

You scored 42% Order/Chaos, and 35% Moral/Rational

Chaotic Rationality. You don't think much of rules and restrictions; you look at things from an analytical perspective and probably think morality is relative to some extent. Your strength lies in being able to make your own judgments and form your own strategies uninhibited by others; your weakness lies in the wariness other people may have of you, perceiving you as dangerous.

You join people like Theodore Nott, Severus Snape, and Horace Slughorn.

The 4-grid I used to determine this is as follows:
 ChaoticOrderly
MoralGryffindorHufflepuff
RationalSlytherin

Cute little vid featuring former Australian Idol contestant, Lisa Mitchell. She was all whiny-ass on the show, didn't make a very impressive showing of herself, but this? Redeems her completely. It's adorkable and quirky and wistful, and omg, that little dance she does...actually, calling it a dance is being generous, lol, but I love it 'coz that's totally what I do! Just jerk awkwardly to the beat, with the most minimal movement possible, looking kinda odd but she's so cute she carries it off well.

*bounces* I never got the point of these 'chat' things, I always thought LJ was sufficient for any conversations I wanted to have, but there I was, innocently checking my emails when a pop-up message from odakota_rose appears! Couple hours later, I am entirely convinced of the value, nay, the necessity of this IM feature. *nodnod* ^_^

Take Which fantasy writer are you? at HelloQuizzy

He's one of my favorite authors! I know, I know, people call his books shallow and cliched, but I enjoy them and re-read them all the time! I don't give a damn the characters follow standard fantasy stereotypes, they are amazing and I love them so. *dances* This quiz is magic, how does it come up with such a perfect answer?

@ odakota_rose- dude, my dreams are getting more exotic. Last time, we were going on a road trip, this time, I dreamt that you and I were on holiday in Fiji together!

*my subconscious amuses me* )

---

The parents are such bores. My father and I were sitting in the car outside Safeway waiting for mother to get some groceries when suddenly we see these two kids bolt out of the store, frantically racing along with a loaded trolley.

'Where are they going in such a hurry?' he wonders. 'Maybe they stole it,' I suggest. JOKINGLY, mind you, but the next second, this check out chick marches out in search of the thieves.

They've ducked around a car, out of sight, and she manages to walk down the length of the car park, looking left and right EXCEPT FOR WHEN SHE PASSED THE CAR THEY WERE CONCEALED BEHIND. *headdesk* It was quite hilarious. You'll note neither my father nor I involved ourselves in the proceedings- he was muttering dark prophecies of these troublesome teens bashing someone over the head, so you know...a policy of non-intereference, not just practiced by the Ancients!

Then another guy comes out to join the search and he pinpoints their location with impressive accuracy. The funny thing is that they've gotten into the car and crouched down at the back, obviously hoping to remain unseen, but he just stands there, pointing and ranting at them til they sheepishly get out of the car. BWAHAHA. I really wanted to stay and see how things played out, watch them get chewed out, see if the cops were called, but mother returned and then we were off. No curiosity whatsoever, those two, hmph.

Frak you, ff.net. I finally get back online and want to post my new TLW chapter to Where I Follow but DOCUMENT MANAGER IS DOWN, YOU SAY? You couldn't have had this hissy fit OVER THE WEEKEND? When I was trapped at home and couldn't get online, you didn't wanna chuck your wobbly then?

Hee. Australian slang makes me giggle. Wait, I'm angry right now. *frowns*
Oh, fine, I can't keep it up for long, I'm just so thrilled to be on the internet again. You guys have no idea how much I missed you all. *clings* Hope everyone had a good Easter!

Also, admire my shiny new icon! *gazes blissfully* By the incredible [personal profile] odakota_rose , whose icon-making talents make me glee in the most undignified way. :D

Okay, moment of truth here; I'm an idiot. I was watching Bad Guys [YAY!] and it hit me. Marguerite and Vala have this other similarity that I can’t believe I overlooked before- their immense fondness for teh shinies. Both are renowned thieves in their respective universes. I love that Marguerite is a ‘jewel thief wanted on five continents’, how cool does that sound?! On a side note, this factoid is what made me squee a little in Leverage’s season finale [please, someone tell me there is going to be a second season?] when the baddie was listing each team member and their respective ‘wanted’ status. *g* [Hardison is a bit of an underachiever- Iceland? That’s it?]

---

On the off chance that this interests anyone, I’ve written up a brief translation of the Samoan exchanges in the second ep of TLW, Stranded. [Why no, I didn't have anything better to do....]

Netty made fun of them, but Ma tells me that the writers and actors did a decent job overall; the translation was correct for the most part, aside from the odd glaring error [as well as the fact that the Samoan alphabet does not include a ‘J’ or ‘Z’, but then, these are the fictional Zanga, so I think that’s excusable] and the actors did a credible job with the pronunciation and accent-  though she preferred Marguerite to Jacoba, lol, whose mumbling enunciation drove her crazy. An example of a dude spitting out the lines with more attitude than accuracy, heh.

'I knew you were fluent in- what was it- sixty or seventy languages. I just can't figure out how this can be one of them...' )

Randomly? That quote in my post title is from Blair of Gossip Girl, talking about her and Serena. But doesn't it kinda remind you of Marguerite/Veronica? :D
The dark/light parallel, and the unflattering self-portrait: '...then there’s little baby Veronica and me- I’m the wicked stepsister...' *snickers*

*sheepishly waves at [livejournal.com profile] odakota_rose *

Lol, the best way to start off our internet friendship is probably NOT by contradicting you but...on a scale of one to ten, the resemblance between Sarah Palin and Laura Roslin? Is um...not as uncanny as the resemblance between...

HEE! As soon as I saw Sarah Palin, I immediately screeched that she LOOKED JUST LIKE TINA FEY!

[Except my family is hideously un-tv-addicted and had no idea who I was talking about. I had to point to a poster of 'Baby Mama' for anyone to get the reference. Ugh. Why, god? Why stick me with a bunch of people who cannot communicate on my level?]

Anyway, I'm probably one of the last people to see this but while not a fangirl of Tina's [though rapidly becoming one], she has compounded her awesome by slyly responding to or boosting public perception and playing Sarah Palin on SNL. How much more perfect can it be?

I thought it was so, and it became so. My thoughts affected reality. How cool is that? And now that I own the world... XP

Shippy meme snurched from [livejournal.com profile] sofie_sanctuary

6 ships you like. Number them from 1 to 6.
1. Elizabeth/Shep

2. Adama/Roslin
3. House/Cuddy
4. Daniel/Vala
5. Mulder/Scully
6. Jarod/Miss Parker

- 3 ships that you used to like, but not anymore. Number them from 7 to 9.
7. Jack/Sam [not that I HATE them, but after all this time, I’m not into them anymore. If they miraculously hooked up in a new movie, I’d be happy for them, but not all explosive fangirly squee, it wouldn’t rock my world]
8. Juliet/Jack [damn Kate]
9.  Cameron/Chase [since they’re non-existent on House these days, I’ve lost interest]

- 3 ships that you can't stand. Number them from 10 to 12.
10. Sheppard/Teyla
11. Kate/Jack
12. Cameron/House

- 2 ships that you're curious about, but don't quite ship. Number them from 13 to 14.
13. Carter/Cam
14. Teyla/Ronon

Why are all the epic romances fictional? Is there no way we can have true movie-style love in reality? )
