@ odakota_rose- dude, my dreams are getting more exotic. Last time, we were going on a road trip, this time, I dreamt that you and I were on holiday in Fiji together!
It was disappointingly rainy on our first day and the waves were rough and dangerously massive [I was joking, ‘I’ll be so pissed if there’s a tsunami while we’re here’] so we didn’t want to go to the beach. I went, ‘Perfect weather for staying in with a dvd’ [and can you guess what I selected? *g*] and I was getting set up while you were sitting outside, writing out pages and pages of something- by hand. It seems anachronistic in this day and age [how very Malone of you, lol]…
Then some jerk came along, wanting to borrow a dvd because somehow I managed to find space for my entire dvd collection in the luggage, [possibly yours, too, it took up an entire wall, from ceiling to floor!] but he accidentally sent a shelf of them falling to the ground and I got hysterical and screamed at him and kicked him out of our room, like, no way I’m lending my precious babies to someone with such callous disregard for them, and then I kind of broke down at how he wrecked the order I had them in. Wow, I’m neurotic and high-maintenance even in my dreams!
And being awesome, instead of eye-rolling and making fun, you came and sat next to me and calmly started re-ordering the dvds with me. *squishes* My damn alarm decided to wake me up then, but it was a lovely ending, lol. [Possibly influenced by our conversations about organizing stuff?]
---
The parents are such bores. My father and I were sitting in the car outside Safeway waiting for mother to get some groceries when suddenly we see these two kids bolt out of the store, frantically racing along with a loaded trolley.
'Where are they going in such a hurry?' he wonders. 'Maybe they stole it,' I suggest. JOKINGLY, mind you, but the next second, this check out chick marches out in search of the thieves.
They've ducked around a car, out of sight, and she manages to walk down the length of the car park, looking left and right EXCEPT FOR WHEN SHE PASSED THE CAR THEY WERE CONCEALED BEHIND. *headdesk* It was quite hilarious. You'll note neither my father nor I involved ourselves in the proceedings- he was muttering dark prophecies of these troublesome teens bashing someone over the head, so you know...a policy of non-intereference, not just practiced by the Ancients!
Then another guy comes out to join the search and he pinpoints their location with impressive accuracy. The funny thing is that they've gotten into the car and crouched down at the back, obviously hoping to remain unseen, but he just stands there, pointing and ranting at them til they sheepishly get out of the car. BWAHAHA. I really wanted to stay and see how things played out, watch them get chewed out, see if the cops were called, but mother returned and then we were off. No curiosity whatsoever, those two, hmph.

Someone mentioned the similarities between Roswell and Twilight a while back and it's amused me because I can see a superficial resemblance.

Max heals Liz's gunshot wound.

-
[thwarted] teen longing as well as puzzlement and suspicion over the male's true nature in Bio.

Also, Edward and Max both bail on their respective soul-mates, leaving the girls to feel rejected and wonder what it is about them that sends the guys dashing away.

Bella constructively sniffs her hair, wondering if that's why he seems so on edge...

...while Liz takes the genius route of studying Max's DNA under a microscope. Way to go, young!Scully. *applauds*
In Bella's defense, she uses google later on to figure out what Edward is [I actually can't blame her for not figuring it out on her own- I mean, who would've thought vampires could walk around in the daytime, withstand sunlight and all that? Why call them vampires at all, Smeyer?], so she does really have investigative skills.
-

Edward repeatedly warns Bella that it's 'dangerous' to be around him, he's the 'bad guy', he desperately craves her blood and longs to drain her dry, HE'S A KILLER, OMG, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE...but she likes to live dangerously and test his control and squee over how much he loves her, which he proves by not taking her life...

Edward: And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.
Bella: Stupid lamb.
Edward: Sick, masochistic lion.
A romance for the ages. The modern day Romeo and Juliet. *eyeroll*
Max also warns Liz that it's not safe to be around him [but NOT because he wants to kill her every time he breathes in the delicious scent of her blood, this is an important distinction, yo] and Liz also doesn't give a damn.

-
And this isn't much of a 'similarity', I just like the pretty sparks in the background and the matching body language.

-
It's also hilarious to me that the Dido song, Here With Me, that I thought summed up Edward and Bella's relationship ['...I won't go, I won't sleep and I can't breathe, until you're resting here with me...and I won't leave, and I can't hide, I cannot be until you're resting here with me...'] is the song in the Roswell opening credits! Such a beautiful, poetic, angsty and touching opening sequence! *squees*

The Mentalist finale- episode 23.
[caps by nicktess at open_distance]
After eleventy million glee!explosions, I finally calmed down and got some coherent thinking done. :D
I feel awesome. I said a while back that I wanted Jane to be put in a situation where he had to choose between Lisbon and Red John, saving her or pursuing his plans for vengeance and of course, there was NO DOUBT that he'd choose her, because I wouldn't ship them if he was willing to let her die, but I wanted to see the angst over that and YAY, this is what happened!

Okay, okay, so I didn't really call this exact scenario, but the gist of it was the same- Lisbon's life over his chance to get Red John. It's even more spectacular because throughout the entire season, she's been the one saving his ass when he gets in trouble and now he gets to do the same. I thought it was kinda funny in the cellar when she takes a whack to the face from RJ's accomplice and Jane's just scurrying out of the way, lol, like LISBON CAN HANDLE IT, I'LL JUST BE OVER HERE IN THE CORNER, MINDING MY OWN BUSINESS. I love that. It's not like he has to go all man of action and protect the fragile little porcelain doll, because my god, did Lisbon kick butt without any assistance at all.

Check out Hardy's bloodied visage, she worked him over but good!
It's interesting that people seem to think Jane's been emasculated or portrayed as weak and unmanly [especially considering his NAME, lol]; in general, because he doesn't usually handle guns [he's a civilian consultant, he values his mentalist skills over weapons, he has a team prepared to back him up at the first hint of trouble, so I don't see a problem with this] and more specifically, because of his reaction to shooting Hardy.

I liked that he was horrified and threw the rifle away, even though I winced because come on, that's so careless and dangerous, the thing could accidentally go off and shoot someone! [I don't know this for sure, but I think it's best to be on the safe side, don't you?] Jane's the one that takes the less violent, more cerebral approach to solving cases and dealing with people [he's the one that'll shut a gate on a fleeing suspect who winds up nearly knocking himself unconscious slamming into it, heh, rather than going around tackling people and getting physical], I think it's completely appropriate and in character that he'd be almost repulsed by the rifle and at what he'd done.
A lot of people seemed frustrated at not getting a resolution to the Red John case but come on, where's the fun in that? Only a season in, we can't have him succeed in his quest just yet, patience, people! Same goes with the ship. I thought we made remarkable progress in both cases in that scene with Lisbon.

Lisbon: What if Hardy had killed you right here?
Jane: And then he would've led you straight to Red John.
Lisbon: You'd be dead.

Jane: But you would have Red John.
Lisbon: I don't think you mean what you say. I think you'd choose life.
Jane: Well, you think wrong.

Lisbon: No. No, you think wrong. Can't you see there's people who care about you, who need you?

Lisbon: You're being selfish and childish and I want you to stop it.
Jane: Wish that I could, but you know, some things you just can't fix. You needn't be angry, it's just the way of the world.
Lisbon: We still have Hardy. He's gonna talk, he's gonna give us Red John.
Jane: Right, Hardy, yes.

Lisbon: And we saved a life.

Jane: Yes, we did, we- did, we saved a life, hooray for us.
All along, this is the man who's been hellbent on extracting payment for all his pain and suffering from Red John's hide, he's probably been fantasizing about torturing and killing this guy for years, he's made it clear to Lisbon that he doesn't give a damn about the law or justice or 'what's right', he wants to avenge his family's death BY SHEDDING BLOOOOD...and now he's accepting the police arresting that man as a compromise?! SERIOUS progress, yo.
Also, Lisbon may as well have come out and said that she needed him. :D *iz giddy* Can you imagine her giving that same speech to anyone else on the team? She cares about them all, but that tremor in her voice, that repressed agony on her face, the way she's so shaken and angry...that's all for Jane. Because he's different. I think she'd've held herself together a lot better if it were any of the others, you know? But it's more personal and painful with him.
The way he repeats what she's said...I don't think it's mocking. It might come off like it, but I almost think it's like...he's reprogramming himself or something. He's put aside the old revenge-driven desire for blood and adopted her values, shown a new willingness to stay within the parameters of the law and let them take Red John into custody. It's not enough, he still has all those years of hurt and agony to deal with, he has demons and they're not going to stay locked up neatly in a compartment in the back of his mind, stay hidden deep within his soul, they're gonna want release, they're gonna rattle at their cage and demand their due. But he focuses on Lisbon and her optimism and hope and the small comfort she offers and he tries to make that enough, tries to accept it as a new form of sustenance.
My heart was in my mouth that whole scene, wondering if he was going to snap, waiting with bated breath to see Lisbon's reaction, seeing how invested she was in him...he seems so hopeless but she tries to cheer him up [like she did the last time Red John slipped through their fingers, reaching out to touch him on the shoulder in that motel room] and wins a smile from him, even if it is tinged with sadness. *clutches heart* My ship! *cuddles it* Jello FTW!
I love how kinda Mulder/Scully it's getting- beyond the obvious male/famale partners dynamic, there's the whole 'man on a quest that will take him to dark, dangerous places and the woman at his side, trying to help him and save him' aspect.
The squee of this ep reminds me of Endgame, where Mulder exchanged the woman he believed to be his sister for Scully- his sister, FFS, the one he's spent his life searching for, ruined his career and burned so many bridges over, all in an attempt to find out the truth about what happened to her- and he gives her up for Scully...analogous to Jane here, killing the man that could've led him to Red John, shooting him to save Lisbon. I LOVE IT.

BTW. Anyone getting Charlie Crews [Life] vibes here? Anyone at all?

-
ETA:
'tis so cool to see Kate Vernon aka insane!slutty!Ellen Tigh from BSG...I hated her character for so long but that one episode of calm!rational!Ellen in No Exit made me love her. THAT Ellen is my personal canon, 'k? Not the irritating, manipulative, slutty, jealous harpy.

SHE'S SO PRETTYYY! :D

1. Opening Credits:
Avril Lavigne- Fall to Pieces
‘…if I had my way, I’d never get over you…and I don’t want to fall to pieces, I just wanna sit and stare at you…’
Hee. Me and my fandoms. *nodnod*
2. Waking Up:
Pink- Sober.
Lol at odakota_rose. I take it that our memes have us mutually developing alcohol addiction, going out and getting drunk together?
3. First Day of School:
Lenka- Dangerous and Sweet
Actually sums up high school really well. It’s a jungle, gotta face all kinds of dangers- ‘I should put on my armor the next time I see you so I won’t be harmed’- but it can have its rewards if you find your niche, make the right kind of friends, work at your relationships and all that.
4. Falling In Love:
The Weepies- Simple Life
This is sweet and utterly suited to the theme.
‘…I dreamed you first but not so real and everyday since I found you,
such moments we steal, like little thieves, we rub our hands,
we hold our hearts between them…
We’ll weave our days together like waves and particles of light,
I want only this, I want to live, I want to live a simple life…’
5. Fight Song:
Jordin Sparks- No Air
Makes no sense as a fight song unless you take the title literally- like, someone’s choking me and I’m gasping for air. ‘Tell me how I’m supposed to breathe with no air, can’t live, can’t breathe with no air’ takes on a more ominous tone…
6. Break-Up Song:
Nelly Furtado- Afraid
‘So afraid of what people might say…wanna spread your wings but you’re not sure, don’t want to leave your comfort, wanna find a cure
...we’re afraid of who we see in the mirror, we wanna let go…who wants to be alone in this world, just look around and all you see is hurt…’
7. Prom:
Staind- Outside
‘I’m on the outside, I’m looking in…’
Sounds like my typical reaction in social situations.
8. Mental Breakdown:
Band of Horses- Funeral
9. Flashback:
Coldplay- Yellow
10. Wedding:
Elisa- Rock Your Soul
Aww. This song is so beautiful and almost euphoric, about being in love and on top of the world and utterly connected to another person. Trusting them completely, wanting to give them everything you have to offer.
'I feel closer to the clouds, I’m touching all the highest leaves on top of the trees…
I show you my dreams to make them our dreams...’
11. Birth of a Child:
Faker- This Heart Attack
*dies laughing* Yeah, I’d totally have a heart attack if I found myself with child. What the hell would I do with one of those?!
‘This heart attack, I’ve gotta get away, not coming back…’
Oops. Negligent parenting there...
12. Final Battle:
Sonique- Fly So High [Touch the Sky]
Okay, that title makes me think of an epic battle between Heaven and Hell, with angels and demons clashing against each other in the skies. Heh.
13. Death Scene:
Three Days Grace- I Hate Everything About You
14. Great Death:
Within Temptation- Memories
‘All of my memories keep you near, in silent moments, imagine you here…’
A song about loss and pain, it fits the mood.
15. Funeral Song:
Ja Rule- Mesmerize
All right, that’s just inappropriate. *headdesk* A song about oversexed couple or at least, the dude’s a sex maniac. DNW, KTHXBAI.
16. Ending Credits:
Youssou N’dour- 7 Seconds
-
Jessica Pollard at the Schools Spectacular. Wrote the song herself [talent!] and gives an absolutely beautiful performance.

Date: 2009-05-25 04:24 am (UTC)And I'm of the opinion that Twilight rips Buffy off, but I can see the Roswell resemblance as well!

Date: 2009-05-25 04:39 am (UTC)Twilight/Buffy?! Seriously? Justify your response! :P
At least with Roswell, they're both ordinary girls that attract the attention and devotion of extraordinary guys, but Buffy's kick-ass and special and has this destiny and everything...true, her show does have vampires, there's something in common, but the Buffy!vamps are so different from Twlighti!vamps... :P

Date: 2009-05-25 05:22 am (UTC)In hindsight, it's probably not a very good theory.

Date: 2009-05-25 05:41 am (UTC)Though hey, I see where you're coming from, and it's not a bad theory- especially re: the hair and the brooding, lol.
I don't know if you've ever seen Gossip Girl but I compared Chuck/Blair to Buffy/Spike (http://borg-princess.livejournal.com/46299.html). Doesn't get much crackier than that. ^_^

Date: 2009-05-26 12:44 am (UTC)I don't usually say this about many shows but EVERY SINGLE EPISODE ROCKED. I mean, there isn't one that I would delete from the permanent record if I could, and I wouldn't edit it all too much because it gives me everything I want and does so perfectly. I love the balance of case/ship, the banter, the humor...and I love how kinda Mulder/Scully it's getting- beyond the obvious male/female partner thing, there's the whole 'man with the quest that takes him to dark, dangerous places and the woman trying to help him and save him' aspect.
This ep and the subsequent squee reminds me of Endgame, Mulder exchanging his sister for Scully- his sister, FFS, the answers he'd been searching for his whole life- and he gives her up for Scully...just like Jane did here, killing the guy that could've led him to Red John. I LOVE IT.

Date: 2009-05-25 12:56 pm (UTC)u did TM finale picspam??.. nice :-) .. I totally loved the episode.. your comments are almost like mine.. though I did thought that it could be better but I didn't feel disappointed at the end.. I was happy that he saved Lisbon's life .. and what I liked most is as u said that Jane's character has developed through the situations he's been in (i.e in those episodes he gave Lisbon red-john-is-mine speeches and when he asked the killer-woman how does it feel to take revenge? and she said it doesn't go away). I have to say, I've been complaining about the way writers wrote this show, but when I re-watched the episodes I find the characters are way more attractive in this show. You feel the essence of FAMILY in it. they're bonding is down-to-earth and realistic.
and I totally didn't pay attention to Life's resemblance with the final scene.. hahaha
have u noticed that the blind lady's tea cup is like the one showing in front of the monitor?
someone in imdb.com mentioned it and I couldn't believe it until I re-watched the episode.. Jane should follow up this woman in the coming season..
I've tried to watch Castle (the TV show) but it so much similar to Jane's attitude that when I reached the 2nd episode I turned it off swearing not watch it again (which I'll do if I don't have anything entertaining to watch :-p)..but I'll probably look for another TV show until TM S02 comes back..
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-26 06:32 am (UTC)OMG, that finale was UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME. I have never been disappointed by this show, I am overwhelmed by that fact, since I've had other shows that treat me so bad.
Jane's character has developed through the situations he's been in (i.e in those episodes he gave Lisbon red-john-is-mine speeches and when he asked the killer-woman how does it feel to take revenge? and she said it doesn't go away).
Ooh, I'd forgotten about that scene in Scarlett Fever, good point! There was also that time when he convinced that girl in Flame Red that revenge isn't important and then the next minute, he says to Lisbon it was all lies.
But see, character growth! This is so important and quite an achievement in a US drama, and the writers are so clever! I mean, a lot of shows are worried about being canceled so they throw in everything they can think of and speed up relationships and confrontations, but I love that TM isn't pandering, they're not going to have Red John run up in the very next episode and Jane tries to kill him just for the ratings, or have Lisbon and Jane suddenly have sex in her office or something. *eyeroll* That's what fics are for, lol.
You feel the essence of FAMILY in it. they're bonding is down-to-earth and realistic.
I adore family dynamics. Lisbon's so the mom, I love the things she does, like telling Rigsby not to drink all the- whatever that drink was in the fridge, lol, and he says, 'But they're so tiny!' Such a mother/son kind of exchange, lol. Must come from looking after her brothers when she was young.
and I totally didn't pay attention to Life's resemblance with the final scene.. hahaha
OMG, YAY! I'm glad someone appreciated that reference! :D
Duuude, I noticed the tea cup thing, that was freaky! So someone was watching what went down in that cellar? *shudders* That means Red John heard what Lisbon and Jane were talking about, yikes...
But I don't think the blind lady's RJ, it's too obvious! Maybe he took her cup as a souvenir or something?
I've tried to watch Castle (the TV show) but it so much similar to Jane's attitude that when I reached the 2nd episode I turned it off swearing not watch it again
Hang on, so Castle is a lot like TM? Isn't that a good thing? We have a substitute, even if it's not as awesome as Jane and Lisbon and the gang, to amuse ourselves with til the second season. Was there something that put you off Castle in particular?
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-26 06:08 pm (UTC)totally agree.. it's such a delight to watch all that tension and all the unsolved mysteries .. hope after this huge success the writers don't ruin it ..
lmao @ sex-in-her-office thing .. they're not Huddy for God sake :-p
'But they're so tiny!' Such a mother/son kind of exchange, lol. Must come from looking after her brothers when she was young.
yeah .. I love that about her.. she's so warm even when she's behind camera.. what I really want the writers to do in S2 is dig deeper at Lisbon's, Rigsby's and Cho's life.. all we got is Grace's and Jane's..
I got this idea today that maybe the man who killed Lisbon's mother might appear in an episode.. I didn't know where it came from but it's gonna be gr8 on screen *dreaming*
'OMG, YAY! I'm glad someone appreciated that reference! :D
yeah .. I loved Charlie Cruise too .. he was so different .. the S2 final scene is where he stands in his Orange field.. good catch!
But I don't think the blind lady's RJ, it's too obvious! Maybe he took her cup as a souvenir or something?
I don't think so too .. maybe both got it from the same store.. who knows :D
Was there something that put you off Castle in particular?
well, it's nearly the same Jane attitude where he's moving around, "sometimes hands in pocket" looking at everything and his partner is only investigating the suspects.. but he gets on my nerves.. maybe I'm so much INTO TM that I can't see any other show *lol*.. other than that yeah it's a good substitute ..
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-27 12:13 am (UTC)I will curse TPTB and make voodoo dolls and torture them for eternity if they screw up this show after stealing my heart. The writers have done awesome so far, though, so I'm going to have faith in them. *nodnod* I WANT TO BELIEEEVE.
lmao @ sex-in-her-office thing .. they're not Huddy for God sake :-p
Bwahaha. *giggles* That would be more of a Huddy thing, huh? :D
I haven't seen the finale yet- I was all frantic to and then I found out the smexing was a hallucination *sads*
what I really want the writers to do in S2 is dig deeper at Lisbon's, Rigsby's and Cho's life.. all we got is Grace's and Jane's..
YES YES YES. ITA. First season was all about Jane- which makes sense, he's the title character- and also Grace, which...yeah, she's the newest member of the team, blah blah blah. Okay, I get it, writers. Now for some LISBON-centric eps, please! [I love the other guys- Cho, in particular *cuddles*- but Lisbon definitely pwns them all]
I got this idea today that maybe the man who killed Lisbon's mother might appear in an episode.. I didn't know where it came from but it's gonna be gr8 on screen *dreaming*
*jaw drops* I-I...WOW...*brain!splodes* I love you! That is such a fantastic idea! If we don't get this onscreen, someone has to fic it 'coz damn, that's brilliant! Angst, hurt/comfort...*dreams with you*
the S2 final scene is where he stands in his Orange field.. good catch!
*preens* I'm so proud...but yeah, it's hilarious how all this drama's gone down, Reese has been kidnapped, he's been exchanged for her as a hostage, people have died [omg, how intense was it when he KILLED THAT GUY WITH ONE BLOW?! Yikes...] and then at the end of it, he's just in an orchard, with his fruit...ha. It made sense for Charlie, kinda random with Jane. Maybe the writers were making a Life reference on purpose? :P
But I don't think the blind lady's RJ, it's too obvious! Maybe he took her cup as a souvenir or something?
I don't think so too .. maybe both got it from the same store.. who knows :D
*gigglesnorts* That's hilarious- everyone's going nuts trying to figure out the significance of the teacup- is she Red John? is she RJ's accomplice? Did he steal it? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!- and you're the only one to suggest 'hey, maybe they shop at the same place'. *dies laughing*
but he gets on my nerves.. maybe I'm so much INTO TM that I can't see any other show *lol*.. other than that yeah it's a good substitute ..
I've heard good things about the show, but I've also heard that there's kind of a sexist attitude, like, the guys don't really respect the chick. One person said that on TM, we all get used to how Lisbon's the boss, all the men on the team defer to her, they respect her, but with Castle, they treat her like her opinion doesn't matter and walk all over her. *shrugs* I'll probably watch it 'coz I'm desperate but that's what I love about TM, nobody ever makes an issue out of a small petite woman like Lisbon being the boss and ordering around big burly guys like Rigsby who's three times her size, lol.
(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-27 05:31 pm (UTC)I truly wanna see ur face when you're going all through those emotions *lmao*.. if the writers included such episode it would be so much interesting.. 'coz now Jane would be teasing her about the revenge thing.. and I bet she would want to kill that man with her tiny-powerful hands *still dreaming* ..
Reese has been kidnapped, he's been exchanged for her as a hostage, people have died [omg, how intense was it when he KILLED THAT GUY WITH ONE BLOW?! Yikes...]
oh god, that scene was so out of this world.. the way they reach for each other to hold hands and Reese calls his name and he says "just breath" and that Roman "no touchy" line.. *cruel way to end a moment lol* made my day..
*dies laughing*
hahahaha .. what can I say ? give me J/L and I'll be happy.. hehe
they respect her, but with Castle, they treat her like her opinion doesn't matter and walk all over her. *shrugs* I'll probably watch it 'coz I'm desperate
I haven't watched enough to give a solid judgment about that .. let's wait and watch.. will post my opinion about it later..

Date: 2009-05-25 09:46 pm (UTC)Bella: Stupid lamb.
Edward: Sick, masochistic lion.
That is the perfect summary for that book/film. Awesome. ^^
I have to say the movie was better than the book. It still wasn't good, but it was better.
DragonLady

Date: 2009-05-26 12:35 am (UTC)I kinda want to see the movie now. Apparently Bella exhibits more personality than in the book and she- gasp!- seems to give a damn about her friends rather than just using them to fill space in between the moments when she sees Edward and is consumed by her overwhelming obsession for him and nothing else in the world exists.
It still wasn't good, but it was better.
I- don't see how it could've gotten worse. *knock on wood* There are still another few movies to come out, though.

Date: 2009-05-26 10:03 am (UTC)I just LOVE the look on Lisbon's face when she says "No YOU think wrong, Can't you see there's people who care about you, who need you? " and how at any other time Jane would probably have teased her "Oh you CARE about me, do you?"
I'm glad you thought that about Jane dropping the gun too! Even though I was basking in my shippy "OMG HE SHOT SOMEONE FOR HER" I was distracted by the fact that was clearly dangerous.
Love your analysis as they are basically my thoughts too. :)

Date: 2009-05-27 11:20 pm (UTC)at any other time Jane would probably have teased her "Oh you CARE about me, do you?"
Exactly, EXACTLY. I'm just so glad the writers decided to let them have this heart-to-heart, her putting her emotions out there and him revealing how broken he really is [I don't know if that's him trying to be honest or warn her off or reverse psychology asking for help- it's so complicated!] instead of making it all flippant like any other scene during the season. Don't get me wrong, I love it when he tries to make her blush, but that would've been so out of context here, with this serious angsty mood.
Even though I was basking in my shippy "OMG HE SHOT SOMEONE FOR HER" I was distracted by the fact that was clearly dangerous
Ahaha! *luffs* Excellent, we can't both be wrong. I've never fired a gun before in my life, but I'm sure it wasn't a good idea. Imagine the angst- this would never happen, will never happen, but my brain is twisted like this- if the gun had gone off and Lisbon been shot... :O
Thanks for reading, I enjoy discussion!

Date: 2009-05-27 11:13 pm (UTC)And yeah, I didn't mention it- I was too overwhelmed with shipper glee, I missed quite a few points, damn it- but I love that she's kind of frozen and just in shock. It's not having a gun in her face because come on, she's tougher than that and she's faced down baddies before but from realizing what Jane did.
we have him holding the back door of the police car open for her
Dude, I don't want to harsh your squee but...I think it was less a shippy little Jello moment and more of a 'people don't leave the police car til someone opens the door for them, they can't open the door on their own because we don't want suspects jumping out and making a bid for freedom'. I think. I'm not a cop, what do I know, right?
Even with that rationalization, I still enjoy seeing him opening the door for her. It makes me giggle 'coz Lisbon and her control issues...being in the backseat and needing Jane to open her door...heh. I love that she looks back for a moment and realizes he needs to be alone and he can't come forward and meet the family. It's not a begrudging, mean thing on his part, just- he can't be around a family happily reunited when it reminds him of what he's lost, you know? And I love that she seems to take all that in with one glance and moves on ahead. These actors are so awesome, showing these little complicated things so capably. *luffs*

Date: 2009-05-26 03:36 pm (UTC)Isn't Jane's helplessness in the face of a fight adorable? I feel like i should find him so cute when he cowers like that, but I just love how the writers are not trying to force this image of the self-sufficient Hercules who can take down opponents in hand to hand combat and shoot like Chuck Norris. What would he be? A Rambo who can read minds?
No, Jane has other abilities, he can read people he can follow clues, he is the brain, Lisbon is the muscle, and I love the writers for doing that. I've been thinking about doing a picspam on these moments of helplessness from Jane, and I've been capping some of these scenes, and there are times when this man looks genuinely terrified when having to face an armed suspect. So I wonder, what's he gonna do about RJ, unless it's all a facade and when he faces Red John we'll realize he took an A level in baddassery and he's been hiding it all along.
*clutches heart* My ship!
My thoughts exactly, they are so asfhkdjfkchenbdbeh! Just when you think you've seen the shippiest moment yet, and that they can't get any angstier and cuter and hotter, they go and put themselves on the line for each other again. And OMG that conversation in the basement, I felt like my heart was coming out of my chest, and their expressions, so devastated, and their forced optimism, SO ANGSTY. And Lisbon's face after Jane shot Hardy, she was on the verge of tears.

Date: 2009-05-27 11:39 pm (UTC)AGREED. I just wanna squish him, lol.
Jane doesn't need to be the entire team and their capabilities combined into one person. Why would he even need the rest of them if he can read minds and smash heads together and everything? I love Jane and I worship him but I don't need him to be god. [Even if he has a god complex, lol]
It's interesting, though, because if their roles were reversed, if it was delicate little Lisbon being the mentalist and Jane being the tough badass agent, nobody would have a problem, but it's like society expects the dude to value brawn over brain or something, argh. Aren't his super cool mental skills enough? Why does he need to be, lol, Hercules, with the strength of ten men and all that?
I've been thinking about doing a picspam on these moments of helplessness from Jane, and I've been capping some of these scenes, and there are times when this man looks genuinely terrified when having to face an armed suspect.
OMGWIN. You should! You should you should you should. Will you? *hopeful face*

*g* Good points, I hadn't thought about that. I guess the idea is that he'll have a gun in his hand and he won't be scared because it'll be like, 'Hello, my name is Patrick Jane. You killed my family, prepare to die.' *BANG*. End of line.
Much as I love the idea of the 'A level in badassery' and it sent me into a dozen gigglefits, I'm telling ya, I don't think so. He's too proud to let himself be seen as 'weak' if he was that big a badass, imo.
I'm so spoilt, now, you know? I mean, we got him caressing her face to feel her smile, we got the trust fall, we got him shooting a guy to save her life, that heart-to-heart in the basement...I can't even predict what new level of awesome the writers are going to reach in the next season but I am bubbling over with excitement and anticipation.
And Lisbon's face after Jane shot Hardy, she was on the verge of tears.
Gah. My eyes were burning. He was so broken, sitting there as Hardy was dying, and then that jackass was taunting him and laughing- ARGH *revives him and stabs him a million times*- and she was blinking rapidly and her mouth was quivering, just...it got me all emotional.
PS. I've watched that moment when Hardy makes his escape attempt over and over and I still can't quite figure out what happened. Did the basement door thingy fall shut and he tried to take advantage of her surprise? And she was reaching to take his gun so when he jerked forward that put her off balance? What a moment to switch to Red!John!cam, argh.

Date: 2009-05-28 09:10 pm (UTC)I love this man so much it's unhealthy considering he doesn't exist, and even if he did he is one fucked up guy. But I love him nonetheless, and I'm sure if he were as good with guns and during fight as he is with words and mind games I would have gotten bored with him already.
He is good at many things, but he has this vulnerability about him, it's one of his most endearing traits and I can't understand this need to make every male character into big macho men with a gun in each hand. I'm all for the role reversal we have here, it's great seeing the tiny baddass woman saving the guy.
if it was delicate little Lisbon being the mentalist and Jane being the tough badass agent, nobody would have a problem,
Exactly, but I guess Lisbon is too awesome for some people, boggles the mind. If Jane didn't need the team to protect his sorry ass he'd be a total Gary Stu, it would be SO BORING.
OMGWIN. You should! You should you should you should. Will you? *hopeful face*
I'm working on it as we speak, but let me tell you, there are a lot of caps, lol.
Much as I love the idea of the 'A level in badassery' and it sent me into a dozen gigglefits, I'm telling ya, I don't think so. He's too proud to let himself be seen as 'weak' if he was that big a badass, imo.
I meant it as him having "taken a level in baddassery", but I'd already started another train of thought, and the phrasing got weird there, lol.
Yeah, Jane is proud, and arrogant, my mother (who is a big fan, she has a cute girl crush on Van Pelt, it's cute because I don't think she realizes she gushes everytime Van Pelt is on-screen or has any idea of what a girl crush is). Anyway, my mom and I were talking about him and how infuriating he is, and egomaniac, and how he always has to be right. And we're like "why do we not hate him again?".
So yeah, it would take a great effort on his part having to hide being good at something because he's a show off, he's a showman, always performing.

I know I know, I'm not used to this, I'm used to my ship never being mentioned and no-touching, or tptb being complete assholes to shippers. And we got so much this first season, I'm scared that suddenly they're gonna change their minds and they'll be like "NO MORE JANE/LISBON FOR YOU!" and take it all away. Because sometimes it's seems too good to be true. A fun show with pretty people being being pretty and awesome and tptb who seem to know what they're doing.
PS. I've watched that moment when Hardy makes his escape attempt over and over and I still can't quite figure out what happened.
A moment before the lights go out he looks at the camera, I think he was signaling for Red John to turn the light off. When the light goes out he grabs and whacks Lisbon and tries to make his scape, and then Lisbon beats the crap out of him (HOW AWESOME WAS SHE? I love her).

I love the way you put it- his vulnerability is endearing. Indeed. :D
What is it with me and liking guys with a hint of vulnerability? Pretty much all the guys I'm obsessed with are broken or damaged in some way. Huh.
I meant it as him having "taken a level in baddassery", but I'd already started another train of thought, and the phrasing got weird there, lol.
Oh, I wasn't laughing at you, if that's what you thought!
It works for me, because there's some educational system- in the UK, methinks?- where students get 'advanced levels' aka 'A-levels', so it totally made sense. Being Australian, I'm not sure of the system itself but I've heard the expression used enough to gather what it means, so you were all right there!
Yeah, Jane is proud, and arrogant, my mother (who is a big fan, she has a cute girl crush on Van Pelt, it's cute because I don't think she realizes she gushes everytime Van Pelt is on-screen or has any idea of what a girl crush is). Your mother sounds adorable! I'm working on getting mine into the show, although I'm totally brainwashing her into crushing on Lisbon, lol.
I love Jane as a tv character, but if I had to work with him...ohhh, it'd be tough not to kill him. Or more realistically, get a transfer because he is impossible to deal with! In addition to him always needing to be right and having the last word and being insufferably full of himself, my nerves would be shot, trying to figure out what craziness he's up to! [Is it canon that he bounced around from team to team for a while before it took with Lisbon?] He's not as bad as House, he's a great deal more charming but... *shakes head* I wonder how she puts up with him, honestly, but he does get results.
The only thing I get a little miffed about is that it's always Jane that spots every clue, shakes up every suspect into giving away something, cracks every case...I know the show's about him, I'm okay with that, but the team was solving cases before him, it'd be nice for them to find some leads once in a while. Not that major a nitpick, but something that nags at me now and then.

Date: 2009-06-01 05:58 am (UTC)*huggles* Yeah, I know how you feel. Raised in the Sparky School of Hard Knocks, what with TATB crapping all over us Sparky fans and screwing us over...but Mentalist gives me hope anew. *beams* I have such glee and happy vibes from this show, I refuse to believe the bottom will drop out from beneath us and drop us into angst-infested waters, okay? It'd be the worst joke ever.
A moment before the lights go out he looks at the camera, I think he was signaling for Red John to turn the light off. When the light goes out he grabs and whacks Lisbon and tries to make his scape, and then Lisbon beats the crap out of him (HOW AWESOME WAS SHE? I love her).
SHE IS INDEED SUPER AWESOME. IT CANNOT BE SAID ENOUGH. *FLAILS*
Okay, coherent thoughts. Um. Okay. Yeah, so that theory makes sense. It's just we see the monitor and I didn't see anyone sitting there watching what was going on- I assume he went to shut off the lights. Which begs the question- is there a remote way to do this from some distance away and what restrictions are there on that? [I am clueless about these things] I assume RJ wasn't actually on the scene, watching the proceedings from like, a room or two over and he just moseyed on a few steps down, switched off the light and then took off, right?
Sorry about all that, it's just so confusing for me and even though I know what happened, I can't figure out HOW it happened.
Another thing- Hardy said he'd talk to RJ and get him to kill Lisbon fast rather than slow and nasty...does this mean she's a target? Is she on his death list or something? Or was that him brazening it out, trying to manipulate her by stirring up fear and panic?
Also- RJ saw everything that happened in the house- I feel a little squicky that that wonderful shippy moment was being spied upon by him...gah.

Date: 2009-05-27 04:18 am (UTC)What I love and didn't realize fully til now is that he as much as tells her that she can't fix him and yet she ignores it completely. I think that's the moment when her mood changes- she puts aside her own [subconscious or not] needs and focuses on trying to help him, support him, make him see the upside to an immensely crappy situation. It goes from intensely personal- near tears! shaking voice!- to pep talk 'I'm gonna prove you wrong, you're going to get through this whether you like it or not, through the force of my will'. I think it's interesting how she switches so rapidly, tucks all her emotions away just like that. She's such a nurturer. *cuddles Lisbon*
I cannot wait for another season of squee! *trembles with anticipation* I'm just glad the season ended like it did- imagine if she'd been shot or something and we were left to freak out about people dying and angsty stuff like that! [Like in another fandom of mine *sniffles*]

Date: 2009-05-27 01:04 am (UTC)*snorts* Yeah, the R&J thing wasn't MY idea, it's all the Twihards who think their book is a literary masterpiece that will still be feted centuries from now. *gags* (Lol, you're anti-twilight? *gasps* I'd never have guessed!)
Aww, 'tis the power of [civiliant consultant with hypnotic powers] Patrick Jane and [The Boss] Teresa Lisbon. Of The Mentalist. Fantastic show that you should watch, sometime, when you have time to spare, because there is shippiness and squee galore. After SGA, I was so suspicious and distrustful of writers but these guys have restored my faith, which is such a powerful thing. I trust them to be true to the ship and not to break my heart. *quivers a little* It's kinda scary but I'm pretty sure I'm in good hands.
That icon? Jane says, FOR SERIOUS, 'I want to know what your face feels like when you're smiling'. *dies* And she smiles for him. *resurrects and dies again*

I kinda wish Kate's character had done it! I was waiting the whole ep for a BSG shout out and got NOTHING. *pouts*
And oh gods, that's a terrifying visual. I'd rather be an orphan than have ELLEN TIGHT as my mother. *quails and runs*
