I was catching up on some recent and not-so-recent eps of my various favorite shows and was a little surprised and taken aback that they all shared the same theme.
The Week of Suicides

House
I wondered whether or not I really wanted to see this episode. I love Kutner, I didn't realize how much I loved him til I was faced with the certainty of losing him. I really hate the writers for getting rid of his character this way, I mean, come on, why so vindicitive, people? I'm so frustrated when shows write out characters by killing them off, it's unnecessary, damn it. *snarls*
Cameron: Kuttner wasn't murdered.
House: You deduced that by removing your sunglasses to the strains of a Who song?
Hee! I love when characters in a tv show make a reference to characters in another tv show. This comeback is made of so much win!
I do wonder why it's so hard for the writers to acknowledge some couples do exist out there that are in love and don't hurt or betray each other. With every single relationship on this show, no matter how seemingly perfect, House relentlessly tears it open to expose some secret hidden weakness that will destroy it. There has only been one couple, to my knowledge, that were totally in love and he wasn't able to find any evidence they'd ever cheated on each other or harbored secret resentments or back-stabbed one another in any way...and then he exposed the fact that they were half-brother-and-sister, effectively ruining their relationship anyway, even if through no fault of their own. The message is not just 'everybody lies' but 'there is no such thing as true love'.
Anyway, I felt so much sympathy for the husband in this ep- he started off looking like a jackass and then he was willing to die for his wife...before finding out she had an affair. OUCH. I wanted to slap her, wtf with that 'It was nobody you knew'- oh, that makes it better? You really took his feelings into consideration before you broke your marriage vows, huh?
Poor Wilson's a little hard done by when it comes to Cuddy. I thought it was funny when he called her out on it, 'You don't give a crap about what I need, you just want someone to take care of House'. But I love that they're so close that her otherwise cryptic short-hand, 'He told Kutner's parents it was their fault' prompts him to shelve that bout of resentment and seek out his irritable friend. I do enjoy when Wilson and Cuddy work together to deal with House.
Taub: Kutner wanted to die, Charolette doesn't so in a contest for my concern and interest, she wins.
Chase: Okay. Either you're a cold-hearted bastard or you're too miserable to face it. Go home and cry.
Taub was a real jerk, acting all uncaring, but I don't hate him for it because I get the feeling he DOES care but just can't let it show. Nobody could be that indifferent to a colleague killing himself, except for House, and even House was all off-balance throughout the ep and affected by it, so I can't believe Taub didn't give a damn. Guilt makes people act in odd ways.
I was blinking back tears in the finale scene. I didn't full on bawl my eyes out like with Laura's death on BSG but I was definitely a little weepy. The moment that broke me was when Foreman took 13's hand- I knew it was coming, I guessed from the start that they'd reconcile at Kuttner's funeral, but no matter how predictable it was, I was still in a fragile emotional state and that finally set the barely repressed tears flowing.
Side note: Did we ever figure out why Kutner killed himself? Or was the message of the ep that nobody ever really knows?

Lie To Me
Emily: See, in science class, we like to call it 'momentum'. You just need a ittle momentum, dad.
Cal: Traffic sucks.
Emily: You're avoiding the conversation. Have you even taken a woman out since you and mom split up?
Cal: Not your department.
Emily: I'm just saying, you know, you need to stop dwelling in the past, you know, you need to forge on, fight the good fight.
Cal: Where do you get this crap?
Emily: Oprah.
I know in print, it looks really harsh but I love this father/daughter conversation. Cal is so frustrated at her persistence and has this long-suffering air, lol, like he'd rather have a root canal than listen to her list what's wrong with his life and how he needs to get back on the dating scene. *snickers*
I'm used to daughters that really suck. The girl in Shark pissed me off every time I saw her, I just wanted to claw her eyes out and rip her lying tongue from her throat. *seethes* But this Emily is super sweet and totally concerned for her father and you can see how much she loves and cares about him. She brings him dinner, FCOL, because 'I figured you'd be working late.' How awesome is that? I know I'd never bother with my parents...
Emily: I thought you were going to come home.
Cal: I got a lot of work going on, love.
And she doesn't sulk about it, there's no whining. Her dad's got to work, she accepts that and tries to make his life easier and take care of him by making sure he eats. So sweet.
Emily: You really should, you know, try opening up to me.
Cal: Is that Oprah?
Emily: [lightly dismissive tone] Yeah, it might be.
She's so good at handling him, she doesn't get offended or take the bait when Cal tries to deflect the conversation.
Emily: Do you remember that girl at my school who- she took all those pills and...[lowers voice] killed herself? I didn't know her very well but she was in my art class...I wonder sometimes if anyone could've stopped her.
Cal just looks at her.
Emily: What?
Cal: Nothing. *pulls her into a long hug* You shouldn't think about that stuff, love.
Emily: What am I supposed to think about?
Cal: Celibacy. [LMAO]
Emily: [laughs, then tells him sternly] Food, here. Eat it.
I love how she's just so vulnerable one moment, then adorably bossy the next. This actress is so talented, that line when she was asking him about the girl who killed herself, the way she said that line, you could just feel her underlying distress and a hint of guilt and worry and how she was trying so hard to cover it up. Then Cal just hugs her and it's the sweetest moment, and I giggled so hard at that 'celibacy' crack. What a paternal response, lol.
It's a good thing we had these cute father/daughter scenes because otherwise, Cal was a real jerk for the rest of the ep. Especially to Gilly, when she wanted to have a private conversation to check up on him, and he just causesa scene by refusing to go with her, making her talk in front of everyone so that he can ridicule her, I mean, WAY uncalled for. Especially that comment, 'Go mother someone else'. BURN. I know he didn't mean it to hurt, but considering her history what with losing her kid...ouch. Really wanted to hit him on her behalf. *roars*
Of course, their relationship is so strong that Gilly doesn't let that overshadow the real problem- 'It wasn't your fault', she tells him, gently laying her hand on his. Love that moment. He pushed her away, snapped and snarled at her and because she's his friend, she realizes it's not about her and more his defensive mechanisms kicking in and she ignores the personal barbs in order to try and help him.
Gotta say, the young'uns piss me off. I'd airlock 'em both in a heartbeat if I could. chibi_tenshi and I ordered a hit out on Newbie ages ago, and the insolent young man now needs to be dealt with as well, in my opinion. The important thing was to ensure the victims are compesnated and their lives aren't ruined but he wants to make it about his personal morality issues and get on his high horse and demand the daughter be held accountable- how is it justice if people are hurt, his way?
Gilly: When you're the boss, make whatever calls you want.
I hate him for disobeying her and being such an asshole by screwing over the victims because this didn't sit well with his conscience. ARGH. The problem with him and Newbie is that they don't realize there are no black-and-white absolutes in life, you don't get 100% wins, you settle for 70% because we live in a flawed world and sometimes, that's the best you can get. I just want to throttle him so badly for screwing over his colleagues for a personal agenda and getting away with it without suffering any consequences. UGH.

The Closer
A bunch of guys betting on who can sleep with the most virgins. *shakes head* The sickest thing about this ep is that I can see it happening. Kids are just so horrifyingly insensitive and cruel to each other. I remember Hotch in Criminal Minds saying 'all teenagers profile as sociopaths'. Scary, huh?
There was so much misdirection going on in this ep, I was completely suckered and when the twists were revealed at the end, I felt completely overwhelmed with pride and affection for Brenda. I honestly thought she was deluding herself into believing the girl didn't kill herself, that she was letting her emotions and female sensibilities affect her judgment and that she was jeopardizing the investigation because she couldn't see the truth.
And then at the end, it's revealed- she never did believe the girl had been murdered, but she knew that the boy who victimized her would never be convicted of rape and so she pushed the murder angle and hounded him about accusing him of murder in order to get a confession of rape. BRILLIANT move. I am in awe, yo. *applauds*
She was really harsh on the other rape victim, I was so angry at her for pushing Ally to relive those traumatic memories and making it seem like SHE was responsible if any other girls died because she didn't have the courage to step up and report what happened to her. Fragile rape victim, Brenda, and bulldozing over her was supremely uncool of you. But that end scene when the girl finally confronted her demons and came to the station to make a statement...and Brenda giving her this long hug as the girl clung to her for comfort...AWW. So much love for her. You can tell how much she cares.
Side note: I loved that Taylor had to beg her for a favor. The guy who tried so many times to get her thrown out in disgrace, now turning up pleading for her help...I'd've ground him under my foot and walked away laughing if we had that past history but Brenda chose the dignified mature way and good for her. Talk about respect!

Thanks to the lovely
odakota_rose , I have figured out how to save a clip from youtube. I tried vixy.net which worked a couple times for me in the past, then crapped up and refused to play nice again. But now we have: http://www.kickyoutube.com/. [If y'all knew about this already, don't rub it in my face, 'k? I'm not a very modern kinda person *facepalm*] I was dying to have that clip of Marguerite shooting Roxton in case it got deleted, and now I have a copy of the file that I can glee over to my heart's content whenever I damn well please. *dances* Ecstatic doesn't begin to cover it. ^_^
Vid spam.
MAKES ME GIGGLE EVERY TIME. I'VE WATCHED IT A MILLION TIMES NOW AND I STILL FIND IT HYSTERICAL. >:D WHY I LOVE SEEING ONE HALF OF MY SHIP SHOOTING AT THE OTHER, IDK, BUT IT'S STILL THE FUNNIEST, AWESOMEST THING EVER.
