You could totally enjoy it on the shallow level of 'ooh, pretty people + fangs and gore + random flashback sequences with period costume'. Just- don't watch it for the plot is all I'm sayin', yeah?

And dude, Ian Somerhalder is TOTALLY a reason to watch the show. [If it comes on Foxtel, I'm recording it just for him, but otherwise, it's not on my list of 'make a date with the couch', I'm not that fussed] He's the evil brother and so witty and charming, if in a psychotic sadistic way. That neck-snapping sequence? Pure awesome. I never saw it coming and it was just so mind-blowing and unexpected for a show that's too frequently cliche and bland.
