Frelling piece of *dren*.

So, I'm d/l an SGA ep, because I need new fodder for a vid- it reads as 60 % done and I take off to watch 'Next' in the meantime. Come back an hour later and WHAT DO I FIND? The bloody laptop's gone and restarted itself for some reason, and then a pop-up appears, annoucing proudly that 'new programs were installed and required your laptop be reset' and would I like to view these amazing new modifications and how absolutely thrilled I must be at its efficiency and consideration and OMFGTHERAGE. *seethes*

Sure, laptop, great work. I'm impressed. Never mind how angry I am at having to start d/l from scratch again. Ack.

Help, someone? I'm looking for all the Sparky balcony and desk scenes. I know a few, but I'm not sure if my list is missing something:

Desk: Coup d'Etat, Misbegotten, Vengeance [feet were up on her table in The Return but other people were around so I can't be bothered with it]

Balcony: Rising, BIS, The Tower, Progeny...?

Does Shep have his own office? I read about that in fics now and then. Strange thought, he wouldn't be hanging out there too often, writing reports and whatnot. Administrator!Shep? *chuckles*

Oh, you know my pain. *commiserates*

Aww, 8 hours? That sucks much worse than my mildly crushing experience. [At least I got to enjoy a Nicholas Cage movie that does *not* suck while I was blissfully ignorant of the fiasco waiting to happen.]

I would totally be giving up on the damn thing if I were you, but I admire your resolve to start again. Hope your upload works out and alleviates your rage. [Or else I pity people around you- isn't it amazing how technology can make you so excited and euphoric and floating above other mere mortals, then turn around and do the equivalent of dropping you off a cliff into churning waters that smash your helpless body against merciless rocks, leaving nothing but mush and pulp where a living, breathing person with hopes and dreams once existed?]

I'm trying again with mine now but I can't sit in front of the laptop for a few hours just to make sure no errant pop-ups appear and destroy all my...uh, hard work. [Though I did sit through an hour of mind-numbing boringness, staring at the screen displaying the d/l's progress, waiting for my Shark ep the other night- er, morning, it was like, 3am. *whistles innocently and totally non-obsessively*]

I know that it isn't all that difficult to click the d/l link, but it hurts to come back and find it was for nothing! Especially when I'd checked before and it was going smoothly and then BAM! Blindsided.

What *are* these bloody updates anyway? I don't notice any improvements to the laptop...are these my complimentary viruses to go with the aggravation of losing my ep?

We haven't seen John in an office. He mainly hangs out in Rodney's lab and bothers him in between sparring with Teyla or running with Ronon :)

Thanks for confirming that. I was nearly positive it had never been mentioned in the show but when you read about it in fics all the time, it gets mistakenly filed under 'canon' and then I can't separate fact from fiction.

But he would have an office, wouldn't he? I mean, he handed in a report to Elizabeth in FS, so he does official write-ups for personnel reviews and that sort of thing and- actually, no, I can't see him in an office...he probably just makes it all up while lounging on his bed, lol.

So his hobbies are causing trouble offworld, sparring, running and bothering McKay. He totally needs to take up painting or something more exciting. Wait, I just remembered he plays golf! In which he hits golf balls into the water without any apparent intention to retrieve them... O.o

I take it back, he has very fulfilling down-time activities. *rolls eyes*

He "could" have an office. He and Rodney are the heads of the two branches (military and science) so they have to do the paperwork for it and they're the signatory officials for anything that needs to be approved in their respective branches before it goes to Elizabeth or Sam or whoever's the expedition head. However, it's likely that while John has an office, he doesn't use it. Lorne's his second in command and I find it very likely that they share an office and that Lorne uses it a WHOLE lot more than John.

Wait, I just remembered he plays golf!

Yes he does. He also has a guitar and a surfboard in his room, so if he ever got the urge...yeah, golf's safer :)

Wow, that was quick! The computer I'm on is really slow but I saw that I had a new email so I decided to check my inbox, even though it took about ten minutes to load and the whole time I'm thinking 'it's nothing, or it's junk mail, or another letter from a Russian wannabe mail-order bride complete with rotten English who got my email from a marriage agency that suggested I was 1) a guy and 2) interested in 'serious relations' with her'. Um. Hmm. Anyway, I'm glad I checked and found the notification of your response. It was all worth it! Lol.

I'm so intrigued by the notion of Shep as a 'signatory official'- I'm used to him being 'military commander extraordinaire', rather than paper-pusher. What kinds of things do you think he'd be approached about? Things like restocking ammunition and...and...my imagination fails me. Heck, I have no idea what Elizabeth's always working on with her *five* laptops and little PDA thingies and wall interface- it's harder to imagine what official boring paperwork Shep's doing offscreen. Or not doing and passing off to Lorne. That should be a fic prompt- I love Lorne's sense of humor and he gets heaps of wity lines. He and Shep play off each other so well with their drollness. I watched Coup D'etat recently:

Sheppard [in prison cell]: Major.
Lorne: Colonel.
Sheppard: Way to be alive.
Lorne [dryly]: Thanks, sir! So, have you come to rescue us?
Sheppard: Well, until about a moment ago I thought you were dead, but now that I see you speaking and breathing... yeah, I’m thinkin’ about it.
Lorne: Well, good. [waits a beat] Let me know if there’s anything we can do to help, huh?

*giggles madly*

I completely forgot about the guitar and surfboard! [Which ep did he go 'there could be surfing in our future' and then Elizabeth ix-nays it for some reason?] I really would've enjoyed seeing him surfing in some random ep- that could've been the teaser for Echoes! Shep's surfing and the whale surfaces and that causes huge waves that send him spluttering into the water...hee...I can just see him all dripping and indignant. 'Wait til I get in a jumper and come after you with a few drones, *then* we'll see who's laughing!'

Back from work! Able to answer again!

What kinds of things do you think he'd be approached about?

Well, he has to sign off on everything. Any acquisition forms, any rotations on and off the base, pretty much anything that goes through the military branch.

Or not doing and passing off to Lorne. That should be a fic prompt

It's pretty much fanon at this point that Lorne does all of John's paperwork :)

I love Lorne's sense of humor and he gets heaps of wity lines. He and Shep play off each other so well with their drollness.

Kavan Smith has the BEST sense of humor and can do dry humor so well. And the Lorne/Sheppard dynamic in command structure is wonderful because John is a good CO and Lorne is a fine, fine XO. Together they run the mission really well.

[Which ep did he go 'there could be surfing in our future' and then Elizabeth ix-nays it for some reason?]

McKAY: Well, that would make it approximately the size of ... uh ... I have no idea, but it sounds huge.

WEIR: How long would it take us to get there?

SHEPPARD: Twenty five minutes by Jumper, ground to ground. I saw some sweet breakers on the south tip. There may be surfing in our future!
