I am a prisoner in my own room.

No, I'm not being confined to quarters, it's just my dramatic way of saying that I feel like I'm trapped. I can leave my room at any time, but when I happen to be occupying it- which happens quite frequently, amazingly enough- both my curtains have to be drawn, creating a gloomy, tomb-like atmosphere. The curtains on one wall are closed because, frankly, it's screwed and if I try to open it, I get the feeling the entire railing is going to come crashing down. But it's the other set of curtains I'm pissed off about.

You see, my room faces the fence between our property and the neighbor's- or should I say, *did*. The fence was removed last week. Completely without notice. And now, if I leave my curtains open, I am completely exposed to the neighbors and I am NOT HAPPY. It's such a violation of my privacy. I hate the fact that if they're standing outside- by their oh-so-classy pool- they can see into my *bedroom*. It's unfair. They get to be safe and secure in their house without any worries, since my window faces their front yard while my room needs to be all closed up for a WEEK unless I want to act like a reality show contestant for their viewing pleasure. Big Brother candidates may not think it's a big deal, but I like my privacy, thanks. The idea of people watching me while I'm at my desk or reading on my bed creeps me out.

It all started at 9:30 am on Friday. I was doing my best to sleep in, and was succeeding until the doorbell rang. Given that I don't qualify as human when I first wake up, I wasn't exactly in any condition to be greeting strangers. Oh, my bad. Apparently that was their idea of advance notice. Ringing the doorbell on the day in question. I mean, common sense would tell you that a lot of people would be at work and kids at school, so the fact that I *did* happen to be home then is entirely coincidental and should not be an excuse for them to put the blame on me for not racing to the door to chat with them.

So, I'm reluctantly awake, trying to remember that I am alive, sentient and have some vague responsibilities I'm meant to be fulfilling, and then all this racket starts up outside. On the other property, so I'm not too concerned. Until a truck backs down *our* driveway, all the way down to the garage at the back, and these two men get out with chainsaws. I race to the window and apparently they've decided to start hacking down the vines on the fence. That's when I put together the doorbell and this incursion onto my [rented] property. I don't even know if they got permission from the owners, but certainly no one bothered to tell *us* what was happening. So ALL FREAKIN' DAY they are using various pieces of machinery to remove the vines from the fence, hack them into smaller pieces, and then they're trampling across the yard to put the branches into the back of their van, scattering detritus along the way. The joy continued when they worked on dismantling the fence itself and breaking it down into smaller pieces.

The end of the day approaches and now there is no more fence between our house and the neighbor's. No sign that one will be erected. [Oh, grow up] Never mind, it'll be done tomorrow, right? Except *not*. While I'm delivering papers, the dude stops me on the street and says that the builders will be back in a week's time to put up the new fence. It'll take them two full days, apparently. So I'm stuck with my room being exposed to everyone next door, which leads to my curtains being shut full-time, making my room all gloomy and stifling, and causing my pissy mood. Can you sense the lack of thrill? It's great that their property's getting better fortifications, never mind who it inconveniences. Jerks.*

*Disclaimer: Everything I say here is a direct result of my bad mood. No offense intended to any of the parties involved. Even though I mean every word. Still, I think the hassle that I am enduring far outweighs the possibility of anyone's feelings being hurt.

Okay, guys, experimenting with lj cuts here, don't mind me. If it works, all credit to justhere1971! [All errors are my own]

I started out discussing Criminal Minds. Somehow it became a rant about TPTB and their moronic decisions. Is that happening to anyone else? I need to get my head checked...
