Okay, guys, experimenting with lj cuts here, don't mind me. If it works, all credit to justhere1971! [All errors are my own]

I started out discussing Criminal Minds. Somehow it became a rant about TPTB and their moronic decisions. Is that happening to anyone else? I need to get my head checked...

Criminal Minds is officially the freakiest crime show on tv. I love that it is all about serial killers, because they make damn good viewing and it's spookier that you don't know who they'll go after next and it could even be one of the main characters which just makes my day, because then we get team angst and even shippy angst if there's a couple I'm supporting, so yay!

Except…I'm not shipping anyone on this show. They wrote out Lola Glaudini, who played Elle Greenaway, my favorite, which just sucked. And I liked her for her own character, which is good as the only guy I thought she vibed with was married, unfortunately, so that was doomed. Reid is adorkable, but he gets on my nerves after a while [what is with the geeks taking over shows? McKay gets half the screentime on Atlantis, Reid similarly here]; Morgan is one-dimensional; Hotch is married so I can't let myself fall for him even though he is damn gorgeous; Mandy Patinkin quit the show so screw his character; and the two blondes, while perky and fun, don't get enough development. I thought the ep where JJ took to the team to the small town where the three girls had been abducted and told they had to nominate one to die was pretty cool. 'North Mammon'…?

But oh, this week's ep was just plain sickening. I know all the Dawson's Creek fans will be pleased about James VDB, but he is scary. All the more so because he looks so innocent and appealing and then WHAM, psycho!self takes over.

Okay, I saw the dissociative identity disorder 'twist' coming a mile off. It was so obvious. They never showed the other unsub- there was too much fancy camera footwork going on; they'd have the harsh voice of unsub 1 speak while the camera focused on something else, then pan back to unsub 2- Henkle- who would turn his head and talk to unsub 1, but when 'he' spoke, the camera wouldn't focus on him, it'd find something else more interesting to look at. Or focus on Henkle's reaction. I just hoped they wouldn't be that lame, because the whole 'fragments of personalities warring with each other' thing is overrated and I did a lot of research on it, [though don't ask me to recall anything impressive, my brain does a memory dump when the info's no longer required] so I'm just nitpicking the script and going on about how nothing has ever been proven, it's inconclusive and Heroes did it better with Niki. Although I'm still damn confused about her and Jessica, I can't even remember if Jessica was real or what happened to her if so and where she's gone since because Niki seems to be herself again, after being imprisoned in her own mind for an arc.

Anyway, I'm never going to get a laptop with a camera in it after watching this show. It spooks me out to think that someone could remotely access it and watch me in my room…doing boring things that would make a person beg for a dentist appointment to relieve the monotony, but still. It's the invasion of privacy that counts. *shudders* People are a lot smarter than I am when it comes to figuring out ways to creatively manipulate technology to appease their own sick desires, and I am so not eager to provide an avenue for some sicko to get at me. I know, this is Australia, nothing like that happens here- well, it's precisely that kind of thinking that can GET YOU KILLED.

My parents are super paranoid about always locking the doors. Front and back. Screendoor, in-door, and bolt. The works. Even though I tell them that anyone who really wanted in could just smash a window. *shakes head* But the point is to do all you can to minimize the risks. The people in these shows are incredibly stupid, they're forever leaving doors unlocked. That's the first step to getting yourself in the newspaper under the title 'Family slaughtered in tragic home invasion'. God. Dumb-asses.

Oh, and I know this doesn't belong here as I'm paying out CM, but anyone who watched Heroes last week? I love Peter, but he must have lost a heft load of IQ points along with his memory. Fine, I get he wants to recover his identity, but why the hell would he participate in a crime in order to find out who he is? Isn't it simpler to just go to the police station and ask nicely? Freak. And if you decide it's *safer* to pull off a robbery, for some wacked out reason, HOW FREAKIN' STUPID is it not to wear a mask? Cover your face, frellwit, or else a whole bunch of other people will know who you are and they won't be interested in curing your amnesia, they'll be tossing your butt in jail. *weeps* The first step of successfully committing a crime- take all steps to ensure you don't get caught. Easy enough to remember, isn't it? Objective: do the crime, not the time. Obscure your features with a mask, a hood, whatever, just don't stroll around and give the guards ample time to memorize your pretty face, OMGWTFMORON.

Stupid Peter. I knew there was a reason I found Nathan hotter. Even though that mirror reveal of gross scars covering half his face disturbed me. But as long as only he can see them in reflective surfaces, that is fine with me.

Back to CM though. It's a sad reflection on our society that people will view footage of horrific crimes committed upon fellow human beings and find it stimulating, enjoyable, plain ol' *fun*. I threw up in my mouth just imagining someone's throat being slit and their major arteries slashed open. I don't know how these people can sit through movies like Saw and The Hills Have Eyes and slasher flicks like that. [Lisa, Amu, I'm looking at YOU. Perhaps even Netty, I'm not sure. Probably Sarah as well. You guys are SICK. Oh, and I still haven't forgiven you girls for dragging me to see 'Doom'. I wanted to leave after the first five minutes. In which a woman's body was torn apart- stupiiiiid, when stuck in an elevator, wait for rescue, do *not* attempt to crawl out through an improbably small crevice since your hips probably won't fit anyway and those doors have an inconvenient habit of slicing off body parts of the unwary.]

I thought Reid, for all his supposed genius tendencies, was amazingly stupid for splitting up with JJ. One does not race off into the dark, leaving one's partner behind to be mauled by dogs. And I have to nitpick this- since there was only one unsub and he was running through the cornfields, or whatever the hell they were, who opened the bar door so that JJ could step inside, calling for Reid as she crept along? Hint: if you call for someone once, and they don't answer, they're probably not there. Seriously, don't put yourself in further danger by walking further in and calling them again and again. Dude. *smacks JJ*

Oh, and wasn't it so kind of the dogs to refrain from pouncing on her til she walked halfway through the barn, stepped in blood and guts, shone her torch to show us torture instruments and then reveal the canine menaces? So much more dramatic that way. If they'd ran for her the moment she stepped in, we wouldn't have had this build up of tension, and that little gasp of 'oh, she's screwed'. The dogs should consider pursuing acting as a career, they're naturals at playing for an audience.

This new chick. I'm not sure about her.

I miss Elle. ~~went rogue~~

I miss Rose from Doctor Who. ~~written out~~

I miss Molly from Threshold. ~~cancelled~~

I miss blonde chick from The Inside. ~~cancelled~~

I miss Jessica from Shark. ~~cancelled~~

And of course, my ongoing angst over Elizabeth. ~~left behind~~

WTF HAPPENED TO NO ONE GETS LEFT BEHIND?!

What do TPTB have against me? It's like any female character that I admire, empathize with, form an attachment to, appoint my role model, vicariously live their lives are abruptly written out- either killed, or go insane, or the show's cancelled. Why…?

It's hard to believe that shows used to have a fairly stable cast of characters maintained over a period of gee, more than a year or two.

X-Files lasted nine years with Mulder and Scully. I know technically David Duchovny left the show, but it never really felt like he did, you know? He was always popping up in guest spots and being referenced and flash-backed and all. And besides, he was in seven full seasons, that's a huge accomplishment. As well as one movie, hopefully soon-to-be two. Awesome.

Stargate SG-1 lasted ten years. Eight of them with the same core cast. Wow. It *can* be done, what do you know?

How about Star Trek? TNG, DS9 and Voyager all lasted seven seasons:

·        Sure, Voyager replaced Kes with Seven [hugest injustice ever], but other than that, it remained the same.

·        TNG- well, they had a new doctor for season two, but only because the gorgeous-but-hideously-named Gates McFadden had the bad taste to get pregnant. [Don't you hate it when they're selfish like that? Think of the fans, for goodness sake.]

·        As for DS9, I know less of it than TNG, but it was probably the most radical in terms of cast shake-ups. I know Worf became a main, after…Tasha Yar was killed? But she wasn't that important anyway, was she? I'm speaking out of ignorance, not disdain for the character, so don't flame me, plz. And OH, heartbreakingly, Jadzia was replaced with Ezri which was DUMB. Her death was just pointless. Apparently the writers wanted to emphasize how fleeting and all too brief life can be, or that kind of rubbish. Why have the characters in a relationship if you're only going to kill one of them off? That's just horrible. But in terms of my analysis, that's only two switches and over seven years- awful, but it's quite a good average, compared to the other travesties that have happened. SGA has written out three main characters in three years. And killed two, possibly three recurring characters. Whatever happened to Bates? Possibly four, if he's gone.

These times suck. They've changed, and not for the better.

I am in agreement about Peter. It doesn't help me that I remember him from the Gilmore Girls.
As for tptb sucking? What's up with that? They want a successful show with interesting characters, yet they take the most interesting ones and off them.
Evil world.

You watch Heroes too? I love how sci-fi fans often have more than one show in common. Heroes frustrates me because it has so many characters with unique and interesting storylines and there's never enough time for me to find out what I want to know about them before the show's over. Like those twins, what's the deal with their powers? The girl knocks people out, and her brother revives them? What kind of power is that? Claire's probably my favorite because she's a teen, pretty, invincible...though dude, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that maybe you shouldn't be clipping toes off in front of open windows. Why doesn't anyone shut the curtains in America?! The guy's weird, I mean, peeking in people's windows is stalker-ish behavior, *not* cool.

Hmm, who else do I remember on Heroes...? Hiro is setting himself up for heartbreak. I hate love triangles, they're so messy and painful. *smacks sense into Hiro* It's sad that the princess is supposed to end up with Kensei and he's not allowed to have her. Wonder how long he can keep his feelings to himself?

What happened with Candice? I liked the previous actress that played her- they have switched actresses right? Because she looks totally different. Though I am one of those people that won't recognize someone after a haircut, so maybe I'm just blind, lol.

On a CM related now, what's weird is that Paget Brewster recently joined the show and now she's popping up in all these random midday movies that I'm watching- One True Love and Lost Behind Bars. I never knew this chick before CM and now she's everywhere!
