1. I don’t like Roslin’s new hairdo. First time I saw her, I’m ashamed to say I thought it was Helena Cain and it was only when I wondered WTF she was doing sitting next to Adama like she belonged there that I realized her identity.

The new do makes her look harsh, damn it. Ruthless. Stern. Not deceptively soft and gentle and all fiery sensuality and…however else the fics describe her. I liked the masking of her brutal practicality with the long romantic locks. Now her look is all stripped and pared down. Not happy. I get the whole subtext and why they think it's necessary and so subtle and clever...

Evidence that I'm not imagining things:

-Speaking of wigs -- and of characters morphing into other characters -- it can't be a coincidence that Laura's is cut in the same style that Helena Cain wore, can it? In her dying days, Laura's become just as ends-justify-the-means as ol' Cain used to be. How frakkin' scary is that?

Stupid writers. Why do they try to destroy my favorite character? *sobs* Although NO WAY IN HELL is she as bad as Cain. *spits*

Omg, they show her bald in Faith, apparently. Wow, feeling uncomfortable...Yes, this makes me the shallowest fangirl ever, but baldness…not one of my kinks. I freaked out when they shaved Weir’s head in Adrift- but those trusty little nanites shortly thereafter restored her wavy locks, shiny and natural as ever. I want programmable nanites, damn it. How awesome would that be? ‘I want long fairytale princess hair today…no, scratch that, I’m feeling cranky, let’s go with a punk rocker crop and highlights…hmm, now I’m wearing frilly white lace, how’s about we go for the Swiss milk maid ‘Heidi’ plaits, shall we?...’

I love hair.

2. Random icon with the caption: ‘Mary McDonnell- turning straight girls since 1952’ makes me lol.

Firstly, because I’ve been gushing about her so much my family probably does think I’m gay. No, really, idolizing a woman makes me gay. Huh. It's not that I'm offended, it's just I'm exasperated that they're so narrow-minded they can't juggle the duality of being completely in love with her yet not being like, sexually attracted to her and to females in general. So if I had posters of hot guys with no shirts on, that'd be a comforting confirmation of my non-gayness to them, but having posters of Mary/Roslin, Torri/Weir and so on is unsettling and disconcerting to them. To the extent that in conversation, I need to censor my hyper-gleefulness and adoring worship of Mary because I know it makes them feel uncomfortable. *sighs* II need to find this other icon I saw somewhere: I am straight and Marysexual. Put THAT on a poster. Mwahaha.

Secondly because- well, *since 1952*? Since she was a BABY? Seriously? I don’t know that an infant would be capable of wreaking such havoc on the heterosexual female population…then again, Mary can do anything. Dominating the female sex from the cradle isn’t too much of a stretch, no…

3. Mary McDonnell has the most [freakishly] uniformly straight teeth I’ve ever seen. When she smiles, my first thought- well, after ‘gods, who knew a smile really could light up the world?’- is ‘Wow, look how white and straight and perfect her teeth are!’ I’ve never had a problem with mine, but in comparison, I feel like I should get braces. XP

4. Season 4 Gaius Baltar is a dead ringer for Jordan Collier of 4400. It’s uncanny.

They also undergo similar changes to their characters- they 'see the light' and go about ostensibly trying to make the world a better place, mainly by destroying the current status quo and scaring the crap out of the current administration with their revolutionary propaganda. They become revered cult leaders in the process. Now, Collier I grew sympathetic to and quite liked- Baltar? Can go airlock himself for all I care. I still hate his guts. I hate how he always has people falling over themselves to worship him, despite what he's done, even though he's a coward that only acts out of self-preservation and doesn't give a frak about anyone else. Whereas Roslin, who I adore, is always the one being torn down and disrespected and people never appreciate her, even though time and again, she's sacrificing herself for the people and to do what's best for them, even if it's slowly killing her inside. Collier genuinely changed. Baltar just figures out what path benefits him the most and takes it.

I don't really have a problem with her hair now that I've gotten used to it. Actually, I rather like it (although nothing can compete with her natural beauty).

THEY DO SHOW HER BALD IN FAITH THOUGH!! And it was way creepy. Something I don't need to see again.

At least someone agrees with me! I was feeling like such a traitor of a fangirl, after reading all these comments about how Mary rocks the bald look and makes it look good...and I was still just going- 'no, no, that's not- ummm...'

I think I just need time to adjust to the wig. Her natural hair was so pretty that it made the wig just such a shock and I reacted with perhaps undue hostility. Also, it kind of reminds me of when she first started losing her hair and the argument with Bill and it makes me get angry with him all over again and just- yeah, a lot of negative associations there, lol.
