OMG, YOU GUYS.
There was a HOSTAGE SITUATION at my university. While I was there.
And I didn't have a clue it was even happening!

I'm walking to catch the bus- my grand plan was to have lunch at KFC with my glorious new Ilona Andrews book- and this reporter chick rushes up to me, all, 'Were you there when the incident happened?' and there's the camera dude recording my brilliant response of, 'Uh...no. There was an incident? Huh. What happened?' *facepalm*

[I kinda understand why that Clare chick made up her phony 'eye-witness account' to the King's Cross shooting now- there's a camera in your face and you just want to feel important, lol]

This is what happened.

Some jerk has a knife to a woman's throat. There are police cars and ambulances. The road's blocked off, preventing any cars or buses entering the campus. There are freaking hostage negotiations happening right outside in the open- and where am I? Holed up in the library, totally unaware anything is going on!

Anyway, happy ending- the woman's fine, the loser's in custody, yay for all. But I can't believe this happened and I didn't even know. If I'd just walked out for a breath of fresh air or something...yes, I know it sounds horrible that this woman's being threatened and I wanted to see what was going on, but come on. If she'd died, I'd be all kinds of horrified, but as it is, I'm just curious to have seen what went on. Real life drama on my doorstep and I missed it all. *sighs*

---

How cute is this?! Aww! Penguins posing for a camera!
---

This is completely random of me, but I was pondering the hairstyle changes of my favorite ladies in the new seasons of CM and Mentalist, and this struck me:

Before:

After:

They swapped hairstyles! Emily lost the fringe and Lisbon gained it! I have to say, I much prefer them this way. Very striking and attractive!

---

Call me crazy, but I kinda think the Australia swimmer, Stephanie Rice, resembles Glee star, Lea Michele. But then I suppose all young, white, brunette chicks look alike. :P

Judge for yourself.

Am I completely off the mark here? They do look a little alike, right?

Vidspam.

I can't find the Could've Danced All Night clip anywhere. *pouts* I love Emma's singing voice, she's so gorgeous! *squishes her*

Will is awesome. I'm glad he isn't my teacher, though, I'd have the most inappropriate crush on him!

And oh, I love Jayma Mays, I was so crushed when she died on Heroes- she was only in like, one ep? But she was so adorable and I wanted her to be a recurring character, but NO. *pouts* Anyway, now she's on Glee, so it's all good. [Even if I hate that crappy wedding subplot, ugh- let her and Will be all cute and flirty, what's with the overweight gym dude? Jeez!]

I would never have thought it before you pointed it out - but Lea Michele DOES look like Stephanie Rice - and I think it's a bit more than just similar colouring...

and AHAHAHAHA about that bogan!Clare video thing...glad you weren't involved in the hostage thing..but also sad you missed it!

Ha, go me and my wacky random associations! I think the last two pics in particular show it off really well- they have similar arched brows and shaped lips.

*g* Well, it isn't til you get a camera in your face and people questioning you and making you feel high and mighty that you understand why someone might make up nonsense to get on tv! If I was badly dressed, I wouldn't have been so tempted, but I had a flattering outfit on- if I do say so myself- so y'know... :P

glad you weren't involved in the hostage thing..but also sad you missed it!

Hee, I'm glad you understand! I was worried my flist would be overwhelmed with shock and horror at my callousness but it's simple human nature, I think, to want to be in on the action- like people that can't look away from a collision or accident or something.

PS. Are you Australian? I only ask because of the 'bogan!Clare' reference...

They do look a little alike, yes. I concur.

OMG hostage situation! We had one in the street behind where I work once and we were watching from the balcony as these poor inept police officers tried to talk crazy druggie man down from where he was going to jump out of a window. It was very exciting. He didn't jump, by the way, they wrestled him away from said window and apprehended him. All's well that ends well!

*smirks* Go me and my random cracky associations. *bounces* I love it when I pull people into the vortex of my insanity. ^_^

Ooh, you got to watch a real live hostage situation? Well, at least you were safe up on the balcony. [And lol that you're all 'omg, it was so exciting!' I know it's probably not polite to feel like that, but come on, the intrigue, the adrenaline rush...it's only human nature, right?]

And yes, it's good that things worked out in the end, because if you'd actually seen him splat on the ground...I watched this British crime series once, just to see what it was like, and the main chick got killed off that same ep- I totally didn't see it coming because she was a lead, so I was all blase, 'Yeah, they're going to save her at the last minute'- but NO, she gets bloody PUSHED OFF A BUILDING, falling to her GORY, GRUESOME DEATH, ZOMG. And then her team comes to process the scene, and her heads caved in and there's brains and blood splattered everywhere and oh, god, it's still so nauseating and I'm not even invested in that show but it upset me greatly.

In my defense, if he was holding someone hostage like you saw, it probably wouldn't have been exciting. But this was a crazy, drugged up dude hanging out a window all, 'YEEEEAAAHHHH I'M DRUNK AND THE WORLD IS MEAN!'. It was HILARIOUS.

Plus I was never really worried that he might jump, you know? Or fall. I don't know why, I just didn't think it would happen and it didn't, so all's well that ends well!

Wow those British shows are HARDCORE. They would never pull that on Criminal Minds! At least I hope they'd never pull that on CM. I don't blame you for being upset. :(

if he was holding someone hostage like you saw

BUT I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHIIIING. That's what bugs me. Grr. But anyway, I'm over it. Really. I'm sure something else equally exciting will happen before my very eyes and I shall forget ALL ABOUT THIS. *nods*

Yeah, damn British shows. Why kill off someone in such a horrific manner, my GOD. *cringes* It makes Kate's bullet to the head look so innocuous and less horrific than it was at the time. *shudders* Better not ever happen on CM, I'm just sayin'. Lots of people are convinced Thomas is leaving and he CAN'T, I cannot lose someone else! I love Emily but I don't know if I can watch it just for her!

Indeed I do!

Y'know, I was thinking of you when I talked to that reporter chick. They get a bad rep, but she was really nice- I had absolutely no info to give her and she had no use for me, but I asked what was going on and she stayed and filled me in on the events that had transpired, which was kind of her. [And she was wearing the most gorgeous red dress, but anywyay]

Yes, we do get a bad reaction in a lot of cases. I wonder where she was from...

*snickersnort* That icon! Omg, that's totally me! When I make contact with anyone other than my mother and grandmother, it's a carefully planned move. I have to full on CHOREOGRAPH MYSELF because it's just so...I can't even explain. It's my fear of rejection, I think. I need to brace myself to reach out to others. *nodnod*

And yeah, if I had to choose between missing the whole thing or being involved, I supposed I'd choose- hey, hang on, as long as I survived and wasn't horribly mutilated, I don't know, it might be an exhilarating experience. *shrugs* I say that now, of course, but...hmm. Anyway, the dude was just having a domestic incident with his girlfriend, it wasn't like CM with a psychopath randomly attacking people. So I was safe!

And dude, YES. The fringe so did not suit her. I love her, so I was willing to put up with it, but better on Lisbon. Now all I need is for Hotch to lose that polka-dot tie. Gah!

zomg, hostage drama *hugs you* just as well you didn't see it; witnessing violence firsthand stays with a person

*melts at the penguin picture*

Okay. I'm probably not acquitting myself well here by declaring myself interested in seeing another human being get threatened. But...it's like when people can't look away from a car crash or something. I just- exciting is such an awful word to use but...

I wonder if this is what articles mean when they say people are desensitized to violence because of tv. *ponders*

And yes, omg, the penguins! I'm firmly suppressing the cynical part of me that wonders if it was manipped somehow, because of the epic cuteness! *bounces*

Hehe, I'm glad general opinion agrees that the two ladies look alike. Sometimes I'm not sure whether I'm reaching or not. I'm not the most impartial observer around, lol.

A lot of people are fascinated by what's different and surprising. It's not even desensitization, just curiousity, imo.

You know, I don't think the penguin pic was a manip at all. I've seen similar photos with other animals in National Geographic and Smithsonian. A nature photographer will leave his tripod to grab something from his pack and the animals he's been observing will mosey over now that the human's gone to see what's going on. And, of course, no professional photographer only carries a single camera on his person.

eh, being an impartial observer is overrated *hugs you*

IKR?! *flails*

And meh, doesn't it make you feel left out? Like, everyone else is buzzing with news and you're in the dark, so uncool. *pouts*

I love her hair, kudos to the stylists! Her fringe was just too heavy last season, and it didn't flatter her face that much. The side-swept look is much cleaner and more elegant. IMHO. :P

Also, omg, as soon as you mentioned CM and Mentalist hair styles that thought clicked in my head and then you picspammed it. Brain sharing awesomeness xD

I still like Lisbon with the wavy hair better though, lol.

Doesn't it sound cool just to say it, though? 'Hostage situation'. 'Hostage crisis'. Mwahahaa. Yes, I'm a drama queen. I'd totally be a villain just for the awesome monologues. :P

Whee! I love those brain-sharing moments! *nuzzles Cylon twinny* Our minds are in sync. :D

Hmm. 'k, with Lisbon, I like her hair either way. I wasn't a fan of the fringe at first but it quickly grew on me. Whereas with Emily, I'm SO glad she finally got rid of it.

Do you watch Glee? Don't worry, no fandom brainwashing in the offing here, lol, I'm not hooked on it, but the singing's neat! I watch it for the neurotic counselor chick, who was in one ep of Heroes and died, which irked me as I liked her shy, winsome ways, so yay for her striking it lucky on this show! PLUS it has Reid's mom as a super mean, super snarky gym coach! She's like the female House, haha!
