Wow, I looked up bluealien and ended up on the Shep/Teyla page. Now, I try to be fair and neutral on GW but I'll be honest here- they are delusional! First bluealien says that all the other shippers twist the facts to suit their own agenda and ignore the truth and that TPTB have said there is no Sparky or R/T, which apparently means that Sheyla wins by default- then quotes JM as saying that supporters of J/T are nutters. Um, doesn't that qualify as one of the powers contradicting the existence of their ship? Or does it only count if a writer/producer strikes down other ships and not theirs?
What gets me is how condescending this all sounds. There is no 'one great truth', one 'true way'. To be a shipper and pretend that you *aren't* interpreting certain scenes and the interaction between characters to suit your own agenda or perspective is pure unadulterated biased crap. I have always acknowledged that the different writers toss bones to different ships in different eps and that 'the ship is in the eye of the beholder' and that I may see one scene [the 'defending my honor' scene, the hug scene, the many moments in TRW] in a particular light through ship-colored glasses and my interpretation of the dynamics differs based on what I expect to see or the filter I use to process it.
LoveConquers goes, '...we already have confirmed hidden feelings and teasing moments, which is what makes J/T about as canon as you can get with Stargate. Canon in the sense that they are the two written to have sexual tension and teasing moments...'
*bashes head against wall*
Like we don't comment on hidden feelings and teasing moments in the Sparky forum ALL THE DAMN TIME. What makes their posts on the matter more valid than ours? Suppressed emotions and flirtatious moments are *subjective*, dumb-asses. What they squee over as shippy, I might find excruciatingly awkward and uncomfortable [and I'm sure they feel the same about Sparky but at least I'm not acting like everyone else is an idiot for not seeing the light] Short of the characters confessing their true feelings to one another, EVERYTHING is interpretation which involves bias which means that there is no right or wrong, just a perspective.
Ugh. I try not to put down other ships, or their followers, but I don't remember any of us being this condescending and self-righteous and pig-headed about it.
What gets me is that Linda06 actually goes, 'I hope the whole pregnancy thing will be good for our JT in the long run'. Because *objectively*, Teyla falling for a long-time friend and falling pregnant with his child and failing to discuss the situation with Shep but gossiping with Ronon about it and then apparently heading off to rescue the guy and being obsessed with finding him is GOOD for their ship. I'm stating facts here, and none of this sounds like what I'd be wanting for Sparky. If they can twist it into a pro, god bless them, but I can't believe that people would say with a straight face that it is so obvious all other ships are wrong and theirs rules when it is in clear danger.
And I have spent waaaay too much time on a matter that never really bothered me before. *rolls eyes*
