*cut for self-obsessed whingeing* )

After releasing all that resentment and frustration, I have to point out a reality check: in Afghanistan, some sadistic jerks throw acid at schoolgirls, blinding them for defying their religion and culture by seeking education. And here I am, needing emotional blackmail and crazy restrictions designed to force me to do well. How wack is that?

-------------

Apart from parents, another source of constant aggravation. Windows Movie Maker is being a real bitch. I know it gives everyone a hard time, but come on! My laptop is pictured in the dictionary under 'epic fail', for frak's sake.

I thought maybe I was equally culpable for its slackness, since running a laptop on about three GB of spare room is probably not the way to encourage optimal performance, right? I spent the morning clearing out craploads of stuff, ending with an astonishing 21 GB of free space and still, STILL it won't co-operate. It takes half an hour to open the file, operates for two minutes max if I'm lucky before it freezes, and refuses to save a vid of what I have so far, so I can't even be like, 'Look, Dakota, I did try! Here is proof of my efforts!' *wibbles*

Anyway, I'm not allowed to use it til the weekend, *eyeroll*, so maybe by then it'll have simmered down and show some mercy. But oh, if someone has a magic wand that they can wave to cure it of its tantrums and general pissiness, I would welcome a miracle.

Btw, who thinks Myki is the worst to happen to the public transport system since Connex? I'm not sure who thought it would be a brilliant idea to issue people with cards that you need to TOUCH to the screen- about a hundred times before it registers- rather than conveniently SWIPE, as one does at every other sort of terminal throughout this country.

An even bigger irritation is needing to 'scan off' before one departs the bus, else risk being charged extra or something. Did you ever think about how this would hold up bus services while people stand at the machine and look like fools as the machine ignores their card over and over?

And it's not making the bus driver's job any easier, in fact, it's more of a nuisance because then people want to transfer funds ONTO the myki card, and that process is also time-consuming and inefficient. And a lot of people don't even HAVE the Myki card, so the bus drivers end up issuing 'short term tickets', which serve exactly the same function as the previous ones, only instead of printing out a piece of paper in seconds, they need to punch a whole lot of buttons and 'validate' these damn cards, which makes admitting passengers onto the bus take forever. Accompanied by irritating jangly music. I'd go insane if I had to hear that all day.

No new TLW dreams, sadly, unless you count dreaming about [livejournal.com profile] odakota_rose  posting TLW icons. Weeeiiird. I don't know why THAT would be on my brain. O.o Nope, no clue...

But strangely enough, I did dream about making pancakes with Bree from Desperate Housewives. I don't cook, but there I was, all domestic-y and stuff. Damn good pancakes, I must say. They were smothered with whipped cream, which is one of my many vices. Mmmm. But yes, a little unsettling because it's so OOC for me. Though not as much as those rare, freaky dreams where wacky things happen that seem perfectly normal, like, you know, I'm pregnant- OMGWTF?!

You know those dreams where you're not you, you're somebody else? And then you wake up and wonder if this is how mental illness starts, losing grip on your identity in a dream? Like, what if one day, I wake up and I'm still the person I was while I was dreaming? *shudders*

So, I was going to leap on the 'name your laptop' bandwagon.[livejournal.com profile] odakota_rose  has Moya,[livejournal.com profile] mcgarrygirl78 has Matilda,[livejournal.com profile] spence_reid  has...Agnes? But when the only appropriate name that comes to mind is Galactica- for my laptop is one with the crashing, and the falling apart and the malfunctions and inevitable crapping up- I think I might maybe postpone this. I have a feeling all the BSG people will come bash up on me since any jokes about Galactica witty or not are just too soon. Besides, my laptop induces enough angst without its very name making me all glum and depressed, right? I'll stick with 'frelling piece of dren' for now. :P

----------

Another TLW dream. I'm torn between amusement and concern at how much it's eating my brain. And in the grand tradition of my subconscious ripping off themes and events from other shows, considering how much I've been thinking about Boomer/Chief in the last week, it's perhaps not surprising that my dream dredged it up in terms of Marguerite and Roxton going through the whole 'I shall yell and rant and verbally abuse you to make everyone THINK we hate each other, while secretly, behind closed doors, we're stripping down and preparing to frak each other's brains out' routine. Lol. My brain used to be so innocent. >_< Where did this come from?

I love the miniseries. Roslin established power and got to be in control for like, the only time in the show, Apollo was actually cool, Helo- well, I still wanted to thwack him, but that's a step down from my usual urge to beat him to a pulp, and Baltar wasn't the writer's pet just yet. And it was fun watching it with Katherine- she's usually the one with the sexual innuendo and outrageous, colorful remarks, making me scramble to match wits with her, but two seconds into Six frakking Baltar, she's shielding her eyes behind a cushion. *smirks*

1. Go to your desktop and press the Print Scrn key [located on the right side of the F12 key]. [If you have a Mac, push the 'apple' key, shift and three]
2. Open a graphics program [like Picture Manager, Paint or Photoshop] and do a Paste [CTRL + V]. If you wish, you can 'edit' the image before saving it.
3. Post the picture here or on your lj. You can also give a short explanation on the look of your desktop if you want. You can explain why you prefer such a look or why it is full of icons. Things like that.

'k, disclaimer: my laptop is of such crapitude that a lot of normal functions you take for granted? Don't work. Ctrl + alt + del is one. Print scrn is another. So I'm doing this for the Deakin computer. Which means you don't get to see the clutter of mine and I can continue to pretend to be a neat, organized person. :P

Five questions from [livejournal.com profile] mcgarrygirl78 .

*answers* )
marguerite_krux: (Roslin+airlock=doom)

Ugh. I’m currently occupied by nasty thoughts about the blonde that blocked my way onto the bus, standing in front of the door while she hunted for change, then took my favorite seat. I hate people that do that, I don’t know how hard it is to have your money ready before you line up for the bus- if you’re going to hold other people up, then go to the back of the frakking line. And don’t take their favorite seats after being so rude! >:[

But that's nothing compared to my laptop problems. I've been trying to save some of my crap on dvds so I can delete them off the laptop in the hopes that it will operate better. Since my screensaver folder is about 5 or 6 GB, I figured I could sacrifice that for the greater good. Except my laptop refuses to burn dvds all of a sudden. It was working fine on Monday, but now, all of a sudden, it spits out the dvd halfway through the burning process and announces that it doesn't have enough space. I shove the dvd back in and all of a sudden, it's apparently only got 700 mb of space instead of the 4.4 GB I KNOW it has. Still, I figure that's better than nothing and try again- only the laptop has another hissy fit and rejects it and the next few discs I try. WTF IS WRONG WITH IT? WHY DOES IT HATE ME? *FLAILS*

---------------------

However, this post on the 10 Ways that Laura Roslin is Thoroughly Badass makes me feel better. My pet hate in BSG is the way that show never lets her win anything, it's always gotta come back and bite her in the ass somehow and she doesn't get a single victory that isn't a Pyrrhic victory. Yet, in spite of every single writer dedicating themselves to destroying her soul, she rebounds and increases her awesome with each trial. This picspam reminds me how much she pwns everyone on that show.

--------------------

I've been watching season 6 of Buffy. And um...Willow's kind of an asshole. Actually, so's Buffy. Why do I find myself liking SPIKE more than the girls? Both these chicks are so awful with relationships. They both have someone that cares about them so much and they screw it all up. I actually blame Willow more because she's supposed to care about Tara and yet she violates her, apologizes and says it won't happen again, then promptly repeats her actions the second Tara leaves the house. WTF? With Spike and Buffy...well, that was always going to be messed up.

Whoa, actually, I'm getting Gossip Girl vibes again- Buffy/Spike=Chuck/Blair? O.o

The bad boy in love, the girl that refuses to admit the sex meant anything...yes, I'm getting very weird with these parallels, I know...and to compound the crackiness, I have to say, the first thought that popped into my head when I saw this pic of Chuck and Blair was 'OMG TWILIGHT?!' He'd make an awesome vampire, and Blair is a hell of a lot cooler than Bella, any day. I'd love to see Blair take Bella down, actually. *daydreams*

AHAHAHA.

My library rules.

Where the local video stores and shops have failed me, the good old library gives up the goods. I have no idea whether these movies are any good, but there has been a lot of flailing and romanticizing over them, and seriously? $2.20 each? For the Mary love? Not too much to ask!

Of course, my laptop is frakked up at the moment, so I don't know if I'll be able to get through them tonight, when the parents are around. Damn my reflexes. I managed to trip on the cord and drop my precious laptop at such an angle that the DVD drive kinda...just...broke off. Um. It was very traumatic at the time, but at least it wasn't worse. It's been a week and I'm having withdrawal pangs from missing my late night movie/tv marathons. And just when I get a new source of Mary...it's almost worse having the dvd and knowing I can't see it til later. >:[

True, there is the small matter of two essays due on Thursday, so maybe it's a good thing I can't indulge in a dvd session. Lol.

Anyway, Ezydvd failed me on these two movies, but when I searched for Mary, it came up with three possibilities: Mumford, Passion Fish and...You Can Thank Me Later. I know nothing of the first two...and *clear throat* interesting things about a certain scene in the latter. Funnily enough, it is twice as expensive as the first two. Hmm.
