I thought it was strange enough when I found out that 'Torri Higginson' was actually born Sarah Victoria Higginson, according to IMDB.

[Which included, rather hilariously, a quote of her saying, 'I did my first convention this weekend and found this adorable group of girls - I think they call themselves 'shippers' - who have this thing about Weir and Sheppard and them having sex in closets...It's very weird!' Heh. If that's all she thinks shippers have a *thing* about...]

I mean, I'm always gushing about Torri this, Torri that...so it threw me there for a moment to discover it wasn't her real name. Even if it's what she goes by, I still felt like a bad fan for finding out so late in the game.

Then I look up House on tv.com, as in House the show, but it brings me to a bio on Hugh Laurie who is actually James Hugh Calum Laurie. The web of deceit never ends. What next? Kate Mulgrew might be Emily Kate Vanessa Mulgrew, or Lisa Edelstein could be...Karen Elise or whatever. Damn. I feel so betrayed.

Lol. This is what happens when I'm online too much. I start spamming my own page. *rolls eyes*

And I successfully did not tell my parents my results. So that helps put me in a good mood. XP The tv banning can wait til next week.

Ha! You read this about closets only now?

Hee, I think Torri was a little surprised at first, back then when she saw how popular she became. I remember that at first sheylas did lot of Torri bashing and she found out about that. People were rude and cruel, and sheylas outnumbered sparkies - until The Storm / The Eye.

Later on, she even posted to GW. You can search for her posts in Torri Central or simply search the poster under the name of GumboYaYa (and OMG it totally fits her). Read those posts, it's like 30 of them and she is the sweetest thing!

When she visited Torri thread had 600 lurkers and GW crashed.

She is simply made of awesome!

WHAT? *criz*

Torri was on GW? I am so hunting down those posts, thanks for enlightening me, there is a lot I don't know. I only recently came back to GW, so I missed out on a lot. If only I'd known she would be on! I'm not surprised GW crashed, everyone would've wanted to talk to her and people probably cried tears of joy afterward. Or sadness if they found out after the fact. *sniffles*

What a funny username though! She has a way with names, that's for sure!

But I feel angry at the Weir bashing. Which is so hypocritical because I bash other people, but no one's allowed to say anything against my fave, damn it. I can just imagine the vitriol the Sheylas were spouting, bet the mods were busy cleaning up *that* mess. Sometimes the threads can be scary when people start taking things way too personally. I mean, there's something wrong when I get attacked for posting anti-Carter sentiments on an anti-Carter thread, you know? It's like, 'why read this when you know you're not going to like it? Are you deliberately trying to stir up a fight?' It's stupid.

But Torri makes me feel all light and happy and letting go of my negativity. Hee!

Found you through speckles.

GumboYaYa was her cat's name.

The bashing wasn't just from Sheylas, it was also from Jessica Steen's fans.

She comes up with pretty cute pet names. I'm such a boring pet-namer- when I was a kid, I named three dogs Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla, heh.

Ah, I'd forgotten about the Jessica Steen- avenue of attack. I really like her as an actress [and I like the character she portrayed on NCIS- now if she had brought *that* to Weir, I wouldn't have minded her] but the way she did Weir was way too timid and unsure of herself, you know?

Okay, so she was just finding out about the Stargate program, blah blah, her world was rocked, everything was upside down, she was struggling to adjust, but that's not an excuse. That's like when people were bashing Keller for being a wimp when on the run from cannibals [?] and JM was saying that she was reacting like any normal human being and someone posted that on that reasoning, every single member of the expedition should be wimps who cower in fear from the Wraith rather than facing doom and destruction on a daily basis and demonstrating courage under the most dire circumstances. Does that analogy make sense? Oh, well...

Hmm, I wonder- if they'd had JS remain as Weir, would she have as huge a fanbase as Torri? Would she have been retained longer?

Her Weir seemed ditzy to me. Torri's Weir seems to have more authority. And the voice! Torri has the voice. That's the first thing I noticed. My voice is my living, essentially, so voices really stand out to me.

Ditzy is the right word. Almost cliche blonde.I thought it was the actress but then I saw her play this agent on NCIS and she was so kick-ass and plain *awesome*, very biting when it came to fending off Tony's flirtiness.

It's a little irritating that with Jessica's Weir, they establish her fluency in other languages right off the bat and then never make reference to it again with Torri's Weir except for Epiphany [an ep best forgotten, though I haven't managed it yet] and Tao of Rodney [which would have been a fantastic ep with a little less...Rodney...lol]. That's the only part of blond!Weir that I really liked. She also looked very elegant in a skirt, but that's just me being superficial. ;)

I love Torri's voice. If she did audio books, I'd listen to her read complete nonsense, you know? I just love her accent. That 'o-kayy' from the scene with Ronon in Duet is so adorable. And whenever she says 'sorry', heh.

Thing is, I think her portrayal of Weir is of a woman with authority [not just *in* authority], the problem is that the writers were always undermining her. Kavanaugh just pissed me off so much when he kept insulting her and she didn't get to defend herself in Intruder. She finally blew up at him, but after he got his licks in and she had no defense. Even in the first ep where they clashed, she threatened him by invoking her position as expedition leader and he laughed in her face. Siege 2/3 dude and Ellis also treated her like she was completely unimportant, as did Helia or whatever that Ancient chick was called in The Return. And Shep! Hot Zone is still a sore point with me, argh. [Though the commentary is hysterical- when Weir refuses to answer him over the radio, the actors are all, 'Ohhh, she's pissed!' And later on, Rainbow's going, 'I have a problem with Weir here- Ford's dying, and she's like, 'No, Sheppard, you can't risk your life, it's not worth it' or words to that effect and it is just the most amusing thing I've heard from him!]

But it seems like the only people that treat her with the respect due her position are the Genii and the Wraith Queen. Sure, they both betrayed our heroes in various eps, but they dealt with her as equals, at least. [Ladon refused to speak to Shep, he insisted on speaking to Weir, hee- he has his priorities straight!]

She's actually looking at doing audio books. She's had some offers. I told her that would be a briliant idea, and she should definitely do it! She'd be great.

Go to the do you want Weir back thread... that cow bluealien is in there bitching about Weir again. For someone who hates the character, she certainly spends a lot of time thinking about her.

Wow, I looked up bluealien and ended up on the Shep/Teyla page. Now, I try to be fair and neutral on GW but I'll be honest here- they are delusional! First bluealien says that all the other shippers twist the facts to suit their own agenda and ignore the truth and that TPTB have said there is no Sparky or R/T, which apparently means that Sheyla wins by default- then quotes JM as saying that supporters of J/T are nutters. Um, doesn't that qualify as one of the powers contradicting the existence of their ship? Or does it only count if a writer/producer strikes down other ships and not theirs?

What gets me is how condescending this all sounds. There is no 'one great truth', one 'true way'. To be a shipper and pretend that you *aren't* interpreting certain scenes and the interaction between characters to suit your own agenda or perspective is pure unadulterated biased crap. I have always acknowledged that the different writers toss bones to different ships in different eps and that 'the ship is in the eye of the beholder' and that I may see one scene [the 'defending my honor' scene, the hug scene, the many moments in TRW] in a particular light through ship-colored glasses and my interpretation of the dynamics differs based on what I expect to see or the filter I use to process it.

LoveConquers goes, '...we already have confirmed hidden feelings and teasing moments, which is what makes J/T about as canon as you can get with Stargate. Canon in the sense that they are the two written to have sexual tension and teasing moments...'

*bashes head against wall*

Like we don't comment on hidden feelings and teasing moments in the Sparky forum ALL THE DAMN TIME. What makes their posts on the matter more valid than ours? Suppressed emotions and flirtatious moments are *subjective*, dumb-asses. What they squee over as shippy, I might find excruciatingly awkward and uncomfortable [and I'm sure they feel the same about Sparky but at least I'm not acting like everyone else is an idiot for not seeing the light] Short of the characters confessing their true feelings to one another, EVERYTHING is interpretation which involves bias which means that there is no right or wrong, just a perspective.

Ugh. I try not to put down other ships, or their followers, but I don't remember any of us being this condescending and self-righteous and pig-headed about it.

What gets me is that Linda06 actually goes, 'I hope the whole pregnancy thing will be good for our JT in the long run'. Because *objectively*, Teyla falling for a long-time friend and falling pregnant with his child and failing to discuss the situation with Shep but gossiping with Ronon about it and then apparently heading off to rescue the guy and being obsessed with finding him is GOOD for their ship. I'm stating facts here, and none of this sounds like what I'd be wanting for Sparky. If they can twist it into a pro, god bless them, but I can't believe that people would say with a straight face that it is so obvious all other ships are wrong and theirs rules when it is in clear danger.

And I have spent waaaay too much time on a matter that never really bothered me before. *rolls eyes*

At least I admit when my ship is in trouble. Like when the two members of the pairing become involved in relationships with other people. Dead giveaway. *clutches head* Why, 4400? Why?

And hey, thanks for pointing bluealien out to me. You have no idea how much green I got for responding to their post, lol.

She said it at the con in Springfield in November. She's had offers and she wants to do it. Yay. She has a fabulous voice, and trust me, I work in radio, I know how to pick them! It's actually the thing that made me notice her.

The stars are aligned just right- she has the offer, she wants to do it and we fans benefit! I could swoon with glee...any idea what kind of offer it was- like for SGA or just something random? The last [only] audio book I listened to was Kate Mulgrew reading Jeri Taylor's STV book, Mosaic. :D

Heh, the line that made me notice her was 'Shut up and listen to me for a moment'- it was just so refreshing to hear that kind of informality when they weren't even on a first-name basis yet and there was such exasperation and...like a whiplash in her tone, lol.

And we all miss her and it sucks. *pouts* But yay for next Friday! Or whenever I manage to d/l TMC, lol.

I can't believe Torri would ever think she was anything other than the object of massive adoration and borderline obsession by millions of people. Though it must take some getting used to, what with people waylaying her in restaurants and all, lol.

Totally the same here, I think I couldn't restrain myself if it was one of those two...anyone else, and I'd be either too embarrassed or shy, but I'd beat myself up afterward if I had a chance to talk to either Torri or Joe and I didn't take it!

Aww, I admire your dedication to the internet, logging on despite personal injury! I've been fortunate enough to have never suffered anything as bad as that, or a sprain or broken bone- I attribute it to my determined efforts to avoid sports, lol.
