I'm on a short fuse these days, it's like I'm turning into my father. If I see something that pisses me off, I start spouting my opinions, regardless of whether it's the right forum for it or whether the audience is going to care or if it even really matters. It might be a little thing that isn't important but OMFG, does it irritate me. Like this gem on the Gateworld site

SGAforever: "Torri Higginson was asked back and she quit. I guess her fans don't mean anything to her. Well the show is doing fine without her. This is just proof of that..."

I was so angry and just boiled over. I hate narrow-minded, judgmental, obnoxious people like this. Firstly, how can she realistically make this claim about Torri? Based on the facts? Does she know NOTHING at all about what happened, or does she just ignore facts in favor of making ignorant and biased statements? Secondly, I thought Gateworld policed anti-actor sentiments, I've gotten in trouble for saying stuff about Amanda [which was how I met alyssa22, lol], yet this kind of thing is acceptable? Thirdly, our definition of 'doing fine' is wildly different. Keller as a main, embroiled in love triangles and multiple abduction cliffhangers, as opposed to Elizabeth, she who has risked her life for the city and sacrificed herself to save others on more than one occasion. Denigrating Zelenka and quadri-boobaging the blandified, dummy!Carter, as opposed to witty Zelenka/McKay banter and intelligent character development. Kirk!Shep as opposed to Mensa!Shep. Splitting the team as opposed to building team dynamics. Yeahhh, the quality of the show has improved majorly.

Anyway, I'm not sure if my comment will get deleted for being off-topic or whatever, but I had to reply. All these stupid people with their prejudiced, delusional views. At least one of them needs to be set straight.

"In response to SGAforever's comment about Torri- the Torri fans I know support her decision not to return to SGA. In First Strike, after Weir was injured, Torri was given the option of walking away then or coming back and filming Weir's exit from the show- I would've been angry at the people firing me, but she chose to be dignified and came back OUT OF RESPECT for her fans rather than leave us with the horror of FS.

Her last episode was BAMSR, in which she had about 30 seconds of screentime- how generous! After that sort of treatment, why would she want to come back for one more measly episode? Torri didn't choose to leave in the first place, she was written out, and suggesting she has no respect for her fans is an undeserved slur against her. Criticize and insult Weir, the character, all you like- making this kind of accusation against the actress is mean-spirited."

And a more on-topic reply...this was in response to the all-new all-female team. Lara Croft wannabes, I suppose? Plus Nicole deBoer of Star Trek: DS9 fame. I'm sensing a theme here- Amanda takes over Torri's place, Jewel takes over Paul's, now Nicole enters the scene...it is so obvious that they're replacing well-loved characters with 'name' actors, and it's such a sell-out for them to compromise the quality of the show just to try and boost the ratings for a few eps, while harming the show's quality and reputation in the long run.

"I'm disgusted by how transparent and manipulative this all-girls team gimmick is. They want to bring in a team of models, including a well-known sci-fi actress from another much-loved show? First Amanda and Jewel, now Nicole. It's an obvious ploy for better ratings, rather than a genuine, heartfelt attempt to redress the male-female imbalance on the show, because they had that chance before and they squandered it. They wasted a wonderful character like Weir by ditching her despite all her potential- so much more could've been done with the replicator 'character development', and they dropped the ball on that. As for Teyla, she's barely more than wallpaper, she's glorified background scenery for all the attention the writers give her. And then she literally disappears! How symbolic is that? Kate, we barely knew before they killed her off, though the few scenes she had established her as a compassionate and caring and compelling character. Laura Cadman was funny and sarcastic and gelled well with the other characters, yet she disappeared somewhere along the way. My point is- the writers' track record of writing female characters is abysmal. They had these wonderful women and they wasted so many opportunities to develop them and use them to advance the show. It's hypocritical to now try and convince us that they're worried about the lack of women on the show and they're doing their best to address that...they should've kept these characters and then we wouldn't have a lack of women. It's that simple!"

I guess her fans don't mean anything to her.

You will note it begins with the magic word,
'guess', therefore, it is someone assuming that is why she quit........
Her reason was probably more along the line, and here I am also guessing, that the SGA execs could not decide if they wanted her, or did not want her, and she wanted something more definite.
If that is the case, I don't blame her. Why commit to something that is not a sure thing?
It limits her other work possibilities.
I could not believe they dumped her and Paul.
But recently I heard he was not even considered for the role of Scottie in new make of Star Trek.

The magic word means that if someone says, 'that's not why Torri quit', then they can say, 'it was speculation'. I use words like 'guess', 'suppose', 'maybe', 'perhaps' and so on to cover my butt all the time, because I'm not stating a fact, I'm stating my opinion. However, those qualifiers don't mean that they can say what they want, no matter how disrespectful it is. I don't have a problem with people speculating, it's when they say crap like that then I want to rip heads off. I don't know how many times the mods have come into the anti threads and said not to make comments about actors- Amanda and Jewel in particular- but they don't seem to worry about things against Torri's reputation.

And I agree with your guess, btw. ;) I wouldn't want to hang around, hoping to be called into work for what is probably another 30 second, two line scene. You're right, it hurts her work schedule if she's looking to commit to something else, to have SGA lurking in the background, and the writers assuming they can get her in whenever they snap their fingers. It was hilarious, someone asked on Joe's blog a while back whether they'd talked to Torri yet about confirming she'd do the new ep, and he said no, they hadn't called her, but he was certain she'd do it- WRONG. It's like they think she's available at their convenience. Pfft.

Awwww, Paul would've been perfect as Scottie! I looked through the list of actors signed onto the prequel, and apart from Zachary Quinto, who plays Sylar on Heroes, I don't know any of them. I wonder if Paul auditioned? Maybe he had work somewhere else and couldn't commit to it?
