You guys know how I crave crackalicious cracky goodness like a drug, right?
[TLW- case in point]
I heard about this supposed Snow White remake with Natalie Portman as a reincarnation of Snow White and seven NINJAS, instead of dwarves, sent to protect her from her Evil Stepmother's schemes.
How insanely awesome sounding is this? Snow White and NINJAS, yo. Kung fu + fairytale = *insanely bouncy glee*
But whether or not the movie is real, rather than the figment of some lunatic's imagination, Natalie Portman apparently turned down the role. *woes* I love Natalie Portman, she adds class to her projects. [I don't care how badly Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium was savaged by critics, I'm buying it on dvd, shut up]
Question: What do Teresa Lisbon and Elizabeth Weir have in common?
[Apart from devastatingly handsome male colleagues- with *g* enviable high fashion hairstyles- who charm them into approving all sorts of insane plans?]
The images with the blond chick are from two separate interviews- between which Lisbon added another photo of her dog to her desk. Aww, puppykins! [Btw. Is it weird that I notice this?]
THEY EVEN HAVE THE SAME TASTE IN PHOTO FRAMES. PLAIN AND SILVER. :D
I know, I know it doesn't mean anything but I love it anyway. Crossover fic, pretty please?!
'k, I went through a few different SGA eps and these caps were the best I could find of Sedge! I know there must be better ones, but... *sighs* Not that I found. My efforts were in vain. *pouts* HOWEVER, the following totally makes up for it...
Bonus pic of Torri:

I love that she dresses up her dog in sci-fi props, that is hilarious! :D

Meme! snurched from kat_rowe:
"Name your 15 absolute favorite couples [het/slash/canon/fanon] and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms."
'k, some of these I haven't dabbled in for ages but I've absolutely loved all of them at one stage or another, whether for a brief duration or with a never-ending, undying passion.
1. Marguerite Krux/Lord John Roxton [The Lost World]
2. Patrick Jane/Agent Teresa Lisbon [The Mentalist]
3. Prince Arthur Pendragon/Lady Morgana Le Fay [Merlin]
4. Admiral Bill Adama/President Laura Roslin [Battlestar Galactica]
5. Dr Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran [Stargate: SG-1]
6. Dr Elizabeth Weir/Lt Col John Sheppard [Stargate: Atlantis]
7. Agent Emily Prentiss/Agent Aaron Hotchner [Criminal Minds]
8. Agent Fox Mulder/Agent Dana Scully [X-files]
9. Dr Gillian Foster/Dr Cal Lightman [Lie to Me]
10. Dr Gregory House/Dr Lisa Cuddy [House]
11. Jarod/Miss Parker [The Pretender]
12. Agent John Doggett/Agent Monica Reyes [X-files]

14. Captain Kathryn Janeway/Commander Chakotay [Star Trek: Voyager]
15. Nathan Ford /Sophie Devereaux [Leverage]
*side note: word’s auto-correct suggests that Sophie’s last name ought to be spelt…’defraud’. Lmao*

Katy Perry- Hot 'n Cold
This makes me giggle so much. ^_^ If ever a couple gave off mixed signals [what with the kissing in other people's bodies and random 'accidental' groping and then marrying other guys], 'twould be these two.
Re: 2/2
Date: 2009-06-19 01:36 am (UTC)OMG! I watched the first three episodes and it is FANTASTIC. I CANNOT EVEN SUM UP HOW MUCH I LOVE IT! Boy, I'm glad I never knew how awesome it was before, I'd've combusted from frustration before this point. O. M. G.
I was so dubious at the whole idea- okay, doctor lady from back in the days of Jack the Ripper, managing some exotic zoo, riiight then- so I kinda dismissed it, and then when I saw it was coming on, I figured I may as well give it a shot and then you started squeeing about it and I definitely knew I'd be into it but HOLY CRAP, THE LOVE. *runs out of breath from excitement*
*inhales deeply* Okay, I'm okay. It's just, I'm so excited. I don't ship anyone in this show but I'm so into it, and that's unusual for me. Usually ship's my hook, y'know? But I love Amanda in this. It's funny, I loved Carter for so long, then I kinda hated her for a brief period of bitterness, then I was with the liking of her once more but without that edge of obsession that made it so fulfilling for all those years and now, I have something better. Helen Magnus is way more awesome than Carter. I have to say, Carter could be a Mary Sue sometimes- and I say this as a long time fan of hers- but Magnus is just...so amazing. *fangirls*
Huh, I'm really intrigued by this Henry thing you're tantalizing me with! So far, I'm really liking him, 'snarky comic relief' may not be as well-respected as 'angsty, driven hero' but I so prefer him right now, lol. I prefer the guys that make me laugh. :D
I love that the writers are really smart on this show. I haven't seen that much yet, so I can't appreciate the interconnectivity and how plot threads in different eps tie together, but ti's so great that they're thinking and that there's revelations that fit into past eps and explain things and show them in a different light. I usually count myself lucky to get a writing staff with some grasp of what continuity means, lol.
Have you seen 4400? It kinda has similar themes- and even has Kavan in a few eps!- what with the main characters chasing down people with abilities and studying them or imprisoning them if they're dangerous, and it had that moral dilemma thing as well where the main characters question if what they're doing makes them the good or bad guys.
I really love how Magnus drops bombshell after bombshell on Will. Like that rooftop scene- heh, 'don't do it, you've got so much to live for' [paraphrasing, due to my lack of obsessively detailed knowledge about this show- but I'm working on it!]- where she mentions that she's had her eye on him since she first saw him and he's thinking when she hit him with her car, lol, and she ever so casually reveals that no, it was actually when he was a kid and he *brain!splodes* when he realizes that his memories of what happened with his mother weren't the delusions of an overimaginative/traumatized kid. She just doles these out, bit by bit, cracking his perceptions more and more, it's so fun to watch.
how are you really any better than the opposition (especially since said opposition ALSO firmly believes it's doing the right thing)?
I'm kinda sad that the other side seems to be superior in force and influence- I mean, on one side, we have Magnus, daughter and a few tagalongs; on the other, they've got these mercenary types storming in with guns and outnumbering them...hmm.
I haven't seen much of the other side yet, but um, they don't seem so sympathetic so far, claiming the sisters as their property, wtf? Will's trying to encourage them to explore free will and independence and the other guys are all about locking up their possessions safe and sound, yeah, I'm not liking them at all.
Re: 2/2
Date: 2009-06-19 02:07 am (UTC)Yeah, I was highly dubious at first as well. Mostly because, for some idiot reason, Sci Fi was pitching it as "sexy" (thier word) instead of just plain smart and new. Even Amanda Tapping alone wouldn't have been enough to draw me in. I just wanted to see if it was possible to pull of 80% Green Screen on a weekly basis. *likes digital eye-candy*
This show's great in its lack of overt ships (aside from the obvious Druitt/Magnus) but, at the same time, it still deals very strongly with relationships. Magnus' relationship with her daughter, to a lesser degree her relationship with Henry, and always her relationship with Will. Which totally fails to take the expect course between a female and male lead in a mainstream television series where you'd probably see heavy-duty flirting by the end of the first ep.
I mean, yes, for all practical purposes, Magnus used seduction to draw Will into her world, but she wasn't using her body to do it and it sure as hell wasn't Will's body she was targetting, either. I just find their relationship beautiful to watch unfold because it's so true. Could they get together down the road? Quite possibly, but it's not something that's on the radar for either one of them. Right now, they're getting to know each other and growing closer in other, more important ways, and it's good enough for both of them.
Magnus is amazing. Do you know the song "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks? (If you don't, I'll send you the lyrics -- not derogatory despite the title.) That is Helen Magnus in a nutshell.
Oh, Henry's great :) Once you ratchet your jaw shut again after ep 7, you'll be even more in love than before ;p
Oh, these writers have their shit together in a big way. If you go back and watch the original webisodes against the first 3 eps, you might see some of what's coming in the rest of the season, but you'll still be in for some surprises.
*nods* 4400 was good. There's not a lot of overt "are we the good guys or the bad guys?" that occurs in Sanctuary, but there's this uneasy awareness that their methods are questionable at times. Will occassionally butts heads with Magnus like in the scene I described above with the suicide(?) but he also goes along with an awful lot of questionable methods and behaviors. And, sometimes, he's skirting the law while simultaneously "helping" the police or Feds. It's all about getting the case solved for him, but he's withholding a great deal from the people he used to work for...
Yeah, Magnus requires a pretty steep learning-curve from her new protege. Gets a little easier for him from here on out, but she never entirely stops surprising him, either. And Will is loving every freaking second of it... :)
The Cabal's definitely superior to the Sanctuary in terms of manpower and resources, but I actually see them as being fairly evenly-matched to the Sanctuary. I have Magnus tell a Cabal operative "I will happily destroy the Cabal if that's what it takes to protect my own. You think you know what we're capable of but you are wrong. We have strength and passion and willpower, and we have access to men and women with powers you cannot begin to comprehend..."
It'll be some time before you realize what the Cabal's actual agenda is, but they do believe they're doing the right thing. It doesn't make them remotely sympathetic, but it does, to me at least, underline some of the similarities between them and the Sanctuary in terms of methods and ideology. You'll see what I mean :)
Re: 2/2
Date: 2009-06-19 02:55 am (UTC)I'm in love with the mother/daughter relationship. I get so sick of shows where kids are brats and cause more trouble than they're worth and you wonder WHY the parents put up with them, and she and Magnus are just so wonderful to watch. I like when she fusses over Ashley- even if you are a tough cookie, it's nice to know someone cares.
And man, I'm not sure who I love more. Helen's supreme awesomeness, undeniably, but Ashley is good competition. I love how fearless she is, like when she meets that winged guy up on the narrowest little bars above the city with gusting winds and she's carrying on the convo like they're having coffee at a cafe or something, aiyiyi. [I was so sad that winged dude died, he was cool *sniffles*] She's so snarky and then almost cute, then whiplash to the psycho, it's uber-fun to watch. *sighs*
*g* I'm liking the lack of Magus/Will shippiness, I don't see them that way. I think maybe because she's so much more confident and assured and experienced in this world and he's still fumbling through it, he seems so innocent and naive right now [though you say that changes, yay] and I don't know, it seems more maternal than anything atm, but yeah, who knows about the future. So glad it's getting a second season!
Lol, do I know Bitch? I did a Marguerite fanvid (http://borg-princess.livejournal.com/57755.html) to it a while back. :P
Well, 4400 was a lot more mainstream than this, so apparently that means less with the moral dilemma and more about sexing and stuff. But I give it credit for dabbling a little, anyway. I don't like too much politics in my shows [I hate that in Stargate, with the politicians like Kinsey, with the NID, those eps are the worst] but it was interesting when they institutionalized the persecution of the 4400 and did some pretty nasty things to them and people were queasy over it.
"I will happily destroy the Cabal if that's what it takes to protect my own. You think you know what we're capable of but you are wrong. We have strength and passion and willpower, and we have access to men and women with powers you cannot begin to comprehend..."
'k, see, that would be win. Because it feels like this huge nasty corporation with ties everywhere against a teensy little family corner store, and I'm not liking the imbalance.
I really wish I had the whole series to marathon through right now, all these hints are getting me so excited, lol. I do support the whole 'ends justify the means' thing, and I can see that as something the Cabal and Sanctuary have in common, but the Cabal don't seem to care all that much about the fate of humanity or about the Abnormals, I'm thinking it's probably more power and greed, so meh.

Date: 2009-06-19 03:48 am (UTC)Oh, Magnus/Ashley is ftw. Very subtle for the most part in terms of "mothering" versus being the boss, but it's the little sweet moments that tell you how much love there is there. The little kisses and, of course
Ashley: "Everything went great."
Magnus: *sighs* "I'll change your bandages when you get home, dear..."
I get sick of the parent/child interactions in most shows, too. That's one of the things that drew me to "Castle" (granted, I only saw two eps, but I am eagerly awaiting more). Castle not only has a great, loving, respectful relationship with his teenaged daughter, he's got a great, loving, respectful relationship with his mother. too. You don't see enough of that out there. In the real world, people don't treat their own families half as bad as they do on TV, nor do they let their families get away with half as much shit.
Ashley's fun. Magnus is intruiging. I know which one I like more, but everyone's different.
Magnus/Will is completely untenable in the here and now. Period. Maybe in season 2 if things play out right but, for the time being, there's too much of a disparity in life-experience and knowledge/power for a relationship to be anything but exploitative (and very little turns me off to a ship faster than exploitation which is why i wanted to scream every time I saw Angel with 16 year old Buffy). But, given how steep Will's Learning Curve is, he'll become her equal in very short order and, at that point, given the mutual love and respect already present, there's little to keep a romantic relationship from occuring.
But Will's got to grow first and Magnus needs to let her heart thaw a little more. Will starts her thawing in the first place; before him, it was only Henry and Ashley and her memories of Druitt. Being loved by someone new is good for her, reminds her a bit of what it means to be a member of the human race again. To me, knowing you're loved lets you love yourself and loving yourself lets you love others. (I use love in a completely non-romantic sense here, even though I acknowledge that platonic/familial love can morph into something else entirely as time paasses.) No matter how you feel about them as a couple, their interactions are always very satisfying to watch.
In my fics, I tend to assume that Will's got a mile hero-worshipping/Oedipal thing towards Magnus and that Magnus loves him dearly as a friend and a student and that more is possible but hardly necessary to the relationship, which I think is a very nice change from shows and movies that assume you must be in a romantic relationship to be complete as a human being. That shit drives me nuts and I see Will/Magnus as a gorgeous alternative to that because, sure the possibility's there, but it's not foregone or even necessarily likely -- it would just be icing on what's already a great relationship.
She's generally maternal(ish) to Will (i tend to think of her more as "nurturing" than "maternal", but that's just me) and he's generally deferential towards her, but there are hints of more at times. It's never serious, but it's not lost on either that the other is gorgeous, so you get the occassional look. Or Will teasing Magnus when she mentions a painter from the 1400s
Will: "Highschool sweetheart of yours?"
Magnus: "There is such a thing as before my time."
Will: "Really?" http://sanctuary-caps.com/displayimage.php?pid=15381&fullsize=1
Magnus: *smirks* "Cheeky monkey." http://sanctuary-caps.com/displayimage.php?pid=15382&fullsize=1
And all bets are off in ep 9 so we won't even go there. But, for the most part, it's like neither of them even registers the gender of the other 99% of the time and it's been my experience that relationships that start in that fashion do FAR better when they morph into romances than romances that start with mutual attraction do.

Date: 2009-06-19 03:49 am (UTC)LOVE the Marguerite!vid. Haven't had a chance to see much of the series yet (although my gf is pirating it for me, bless her) but it seems perfectly in keeping with Marguerite from what little I've seen. I especially love in your vid "kiss, kiss, kiss, knock you out with a bottle of booze!" ... kind of thing i'd do
perfect song for Magnus as well. I just added it to the list of Sanctuary song!vids I want to attempt when the Sanctuary DVDs come out (other songs i want to tackle is "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" as an Ashley combat montage, "New Mother Nature" for Magnus, and "Hotel California" for poor Will in the first three eps. i have others, but those are the main one's i'd like ot try :)
*nods* Any show that tackles politics is taking a difficult tack. It's more likely than not to flop by preaching at the audience instead of drawing the audience into its world and telling them a story. 4400 did okay (considerably less heavy-handed than, say, the X-Men movies: "did you ever try just not being a mutant?" -- honestly...) Sanctuary largely avoids needing to go there since it's a Shadow World although i did entertain the notion of "Joe's old friend Helen briefs Barack on a few things he should be aware of" but i lost the first draft when my computer caught a virus and just never had the drive to recreate it. okay idea (stolen directly from Stargate) but hardly original or compelling enough to revisit
The Cabal's huge, and they're global, and the Sanctuary is at a disadvantage in a lot of ways. But they're also passionate and they believe in what they do and there's not an abnormal on the planet who doesn't have a vested interest in bringing them down, so to me it balances out. A conflict between the Sanctuary and the Cabal is, by necessity, going to be a Shadow War and, generally speaking, guerillas are more than capable of holding their own against vastly superior resources. My biological father was a military historian, so I know that force of numbers and resources alone are seldom adequate to win any war. The Sanctuary is the underdog, but they're an underdog who's more than capable of holding its own in a protracted conflict
"The ends justify the means" is a tricky proposition. I happen to believe it myself (something that not many of my friends know about me, for the record) but a lot of people find it a reprehensible proposition and, at the end of the day, I can see where those people are coming from. The Nazis believed they were doing the right thing, too, and that they should pursue thier goals by any means necessary. My own father nearly fell victim to their eugenics policy. Because they believed that it was important to improve the human race at any cost. The Cabal really is in its own way, dedicated to the preservation of humanity, like the Nazis were. And that means being willing to do things you accept as distasteful to achieve those ends.
Maybe I'm closer to the issue than most and so i'm seeing things that aren't there. But, if the Cabal believes it's doing the right thing and that it's acceptable to use any means necessary to achieve that and the Sanctuary believes that it's doing the right thing and that it's acceptable to use any means necessary to achieve that, then they aren't that different at all. The road to hell, after all, is paved with good intentions *shrug*
And I just really hope they have the balls to play up that angle even more strongly in season 2 :)
and i'll stop hitting you with teasers *hug*
